Francis Raynor
Francis Leo Raynor, 69, of Toddville in Dorchester County, died June 16, 2001 in Toddville.
Mr. Raynor was born Dec. 24, 1931, in Pasadena, the son of John and Rachel Howl Raynor. He served in the Army from 1950 to 1953 and in the Navy from 1958 to 1962.
He was a truck driver for Reliable Contracting Co.
He volunteered with the Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Department and enjoyed crabbing, fishing and gardening.
Surviving are his wife, Jane Raynor; one son, Skip Briggs of Severna Park; two daughters, Daria Lynn Entinger and Barbara Gregg of Brooklyn Park; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his stepmother, Nivlys Raynor of Hallwood, Va.
Also surviving are five brothers, Frank Gutierrez of Naples, Fla., Charles Raynor of Duck, W.Va., Robert Raynor of Glen Arm, Thomas H. Raynor of Glen Burnie and Tim Raynor of Hallwood; and five sisters, Sarah Coleman of Pungoteague, Va., Emma Hayden of Toddville, Holly Merit and Mary Wagner of Hallwood and Catherine Wheeler of Brooklyn.
He was the brother of the late John B. Raynor.
Visitation is from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Singleton Funeral Home, 1 Second Ave. SW, Glen Burnie, where services will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow. Burial will be in Maryland Veterans cemetery in Crownsville.
Betty Coates
Betty Ann Coates, 59, of Arnold, died June 15, 2001 at Anne Arundel Medical Center following a brief illness.
Miss Coates was born April 18, 1942, in Baltimore, and was the daughter of the late Ernest and Estella Coates. She attended Jones Elementary School in Severna Park.
A member of Wayman Good Hope A.M.E. Church since childhood, she attended Sunday School and vacation Bible school, where she received an award for perfect attendance. She went to church regularly until her health began to fail.
Most recently she attended Almost Family Day Care Center. She enjoyed people, being with family and friends, and good food. She also enjoyed watching television.
Survivors include four brothers, Bernard Coates of Arnold, Robert Coates of Pasadena, Earnest Coates of Arnold, and her twin, Orlando Coates of Annapolis; and five sisters, Agnes Coates of Boston, Mass., Rosabel Day of Baltimore, Laura Brown of Severna Park, Goldie Collins of Arnold, with whom she lived, and Jacqueline Harris of Pasadena.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Eleanor Matthews.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday at Wayman Good Hope A.M.E. Church, 100 Hoyle Lane, Severna Park, with a Christian wake from 6:30 to 7 p.m. followed by the funeral. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Carpenter Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are by Reese and Sons Mortuary.
Janet Corrigan
Janet Wolfe Corrigan, 64, of Crofton, died of complications from cancer June 17, 2001 at her home. She had been diagnosed with breast cancer four years ago.
Mrs. Corrigan was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Edwin and Emma Wolfe. She grew up in Manhasset, N.Y., and graduated in 1958 from the University of Maryland, where she met Richard L. Corrigan. They were married
on Sept. 12, 1959.
From 1959 to 1963 they lived in Anne Arundel County while Mr. Corrigan coached lacrosse at the Naval Academy. She also lived in Madison, Conn., where she became a real estate broker.
From 1969 to 1985 the family lived in Swarthmore, Pa., where she continued working in real estate and played tennis and paddle tennis. She was active in the Lutheran Church in Wallingford, Pa., and belonged to the Abramson Society at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital.The family also owned a home in Stone Harbor, N.J.
From 1985 to 2000 she lived in Newburyport, Mass., became active in the Unitarian Church there and volunteered at the local hospital. Mrs. Corrigan scored a hole-in-one at the Wentworth-by-the-Sea golf course in nearby New Hampshire.
After moving to Crofton, she played golf at Walden Country Club.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Kim Corrigan of Newark, Del., Lee Corrigan of Ellicott City and Douglas Corrigan of West Chester, Pa.; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, 611 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd., Severna Park. Arrangements are by Hardesty Funeral Home in Gambrills.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1041 Route 3 North, Gambrills, MD 21054.
Edmund Egbert
Services for Edmund Webster Egbert, 75, of Blue Springs, Mo., were held May 11, 2001 at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home in Blue Springs.
Mr. Egbert, who was born June 14, 1925, in Annapolis, died May 7 at St. Mary's Hospital in Blue Springs after a lengthy illness.
He was the son of the late Navy Ensign Edmund Webster Egbert and Tempa Egbert Ridout and stepson of the late James Atlee Ridout. His father died aboard the Navy submarine S-51 on Sept. 25, 1925, when it was rammed and sunk by the steamer City of Rome off Block Island, R.I.
Mr. Egbert was a retired supervisor for the Ford Motor Co. in Missouri. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife, Ann Egbert; three daughters, Gail Ann Egbert of Red Bluff, Calif., Carol Ann Wonderly of Boone, Iowa, and Barbara Ann Wonderly of Overland Park, Kan.; one brother, James Atlee Ridout Jr., and one sister, Mary Alice Butler, both of Annapolis; and six grandchildren.

Jane Heselton
Jane Tompkins "Tommie" Heselton, 78, of Annapolis and formerly of La Jolla, Calif., died of a cerebral hemorrhage June 15, 2001 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a brief illness.
Mrs. Heselton was born Oct. 4, 1922, in Port Chester, N.Y. She was raised in the Panama Canal Zone, where she met her future husband while he was on his "youngster" cruise from the Naval Academy. The couple was married
in the Naval Academy chapel on June 19, 1942.
She graduated from Temple University School of Nursing in Philadelphia, Pa., as a registered nurse and practiced nursing from time to time while accompanying her Naval officer husband to numerous duty stations.
An avid traveler, she visited most parts of the world and for 10 years planned and guided tours of the Orient for groups of friends and acquaintances. She particularly enjoyed Lake Tahoe, Calif., and Las Vegas, Nev., visiting there at least twice a year. She was an active bowler and dedicated Navy football fan. Her other interests centered around her dog, a toy poodle.
Surviving are her husband of 59 years, retired Navy Capt. Leslie R. Heselton Jr. of Annapolis and San Diego, Calif.; two sons, Les Heselton of Moorestown, N.J., and Tom Heselton of Frederick; five grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Naval Academy Chapel. Burial will be at 10 a.m. June 26 in Arlington National Cemetery.
Chester Kirk
Chester Arthur Kirk, 77, of Glen Burnie, died June 16, 2001 at Maryland General Hospital in Baltimore after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Kirk was born Aug. 19, 1923, in Kermit, W.Va., son of the late Clay and Maude Kirk. He served in the Army during World War II and was wounded during the Normandy invasion in 1944. He was awarded the Purple Heart medal.
In 1986 he retired as a supervisor from the federal government where he had worked for 27 years.
He was a member of the 3rd Armored Spearhead Division Association, coached Little League in Glen Burnie for many years and belonged to the Civitan Club, Elks Lodge 2266, American Legion Post 175, Masonic Lodge 213, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 40.
His interests included golf, word puzzles, playing horseshoes and spending time with family.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Irene Goble Kirk; one daughter, Carole Schlegel of Severna Park; four sisters, Maxine Fairchild of Oakland in Garrett County, Sue Haferkamp of Salisbury, Pauline Johnson of Denver, Colo., and Joyce Smithson of Crofton; and five grandchildren.
He was the father of the late Chester A. Kirk Jr. and the brother of the late Clay, Eddie and Bobby Kirk.
