Raymond Maxie
Raymond B. Maxie, 63, previously of Eastport since 1952, died of cancer June 17, 2001 at his home in Glen Burnie after a five-year illness.
Mr. Maxie was born in Rose Hill, Va., on Dec. 5, 1937. He was a bus driver for the Arundel Bus Co., Robert A. Gauge Bus Services and McNeal Contracting for 10 years before retiring in 1996. He moved to Glen Burnie about a year ago.
He enjoyed travel and playing pool.
Surviving are his son, Raymond E. Maxie of Glen Burnie; his daughter, Christine Marriner of Columbia; his mother, Lassie M. Maxie of Annapolis; three brothers, Boyd and John Maxie of Annapolis and James Maxie of Mount Royal, N.J.; three sisters, Betty Drury, Jewel Callis and Geraldine O'Brien, all of Annapolis; and three grandchildren. His daughter, Kimberly Munzo, died last September.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., today at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., where funeral services will be at 11 a.m . tomorrow. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Edith Parker
Edith Cristine Tongue Parker, 57, a 15-year resident of Harwood, died at Anne Arundel Medical Center on June 15, 2001 after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Parker, who was known as "Big Edith" or "Womma" to family and friends, was born on Dec. 16, 1943, in Annapolis. A homemaker, she was educated in the Anne Arundel County school system.
She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, and enjoyed reading, dining out and spending time with her grandchildren.
The widow of Charles Edward Parker Sr., she is survived by her son, Charles E. Parker Jr. of Annapolis; three daughters, Laura D. and Valerie D. Parker of Annapolis and Amanda R. Williams of Philadelphia, Pa.; her stepmother, Florence Tongue of Harwood; five brothers, James Thompson of Harwood, Clinton Tongue Jr. of Lothian, Sgt. Tyrone Tongue of Delaware and Dr. Michael Tongue and Carl Tongue of Harwood; three sisters, Mary Tongue of Annapolis, Shirley Johnson of Harwood and Dorothy Erwin of Lanham; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. tomorrow followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 65 Tarragon Lane in Edgewater. Burial will be in Lakemont cemetery in Davidsonville. Arrangements are by Reese and Sons Mortuary.
Margaret Shaw
Margaret Carr Shaw, 88, a resident of Annapolis since 1930, died of heart failure June 17, 2001 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Born Nov. 16, 1912, in Midland in Allegany County, Mrs. Shaw attended Catherman's Business School in Cumberland. Before and during World War II she was a secretary at the former Naval Experimental Station. From 1962 to 1973 she was employed at the Naval Academy as a secretary in the supply and payroll department and then secretary to the social director.
Mrs. Shaw was one of the oldest members of Calvary United Methodist Church, She had more than 3, 000 hours of service as a volunteer at The Clothes Box, a resale shop operated by the Anne Arundel Medical Center Auxiliary.
Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Alvin L. Shaw; one son, Barton Carr Shaw of Bethlehem, Pa.; one daughter, Beth Shaw Barham of San Antonio, Texas; three sisters, Elma Perdew of Cumberland, Betty Dawson of Baltimore and June Morgan of Kensington; and three grandchildren.
She was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Smith Carr.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., where services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Leroy Abbott
Leroy Franklin Abbott, 78, of Glen Burnie and formerly of Annapolis and Brooklyn, died of heart failure June 16, 2001 at the Baltimore VA Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Abbott was born Oct. 5, 1922, in Baltimore, the son of Julia Mae Somers and John Wesley Abbott, and grew up on Deal Island in Somerset County. He served in the Army during World War II.
A self-employed waterman, he worked out of Annapolis harbor with his boat, Vencenta. His specialty was oystering and crabbing. He also was a self-employed house painter in and around Annapolis and Brooklyn.
For many years he attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Brooklyn. He also was known as an avid sportsman.
Surviving are four children, Jimmy Clayton Keller of Richlands, Va., Bobby Keller of Pasadena, Anna L. Root of Waynesboro, Pa., and Vicky Reppenhagen of Annapolis; three sisters, Maggie Abbott of Salisbury, Flora Marie Ozman of Arbutus and Dorothy L. Norton of Danville, Va.; six grandchildren; and his companion, Vencenta Mary Brown of the home.
He was the brother of the late Edgar Norwood Abbott and Anna Mae Rothbard.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at Hardesty Funeral Home, 12 Ridgely Ave., where services will be at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be private.

Jane Baird
Jane Mary Colburn Baird, 66, of Stevensville, died June 15, 2001 at her home. The cause of death was not available.
Mrs. Baird was born Feb. 14, 1935, in Mount Vernon, N.Y., the daughter of the late Aura Eugene and Arlene Bellows Colburn. She graduated in 1952 from Yonkers High School, attended Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., for two years and received a bachelor of arts degree in English from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.
She was married
on June 23, 1956, to Jerome R. Baird. They resided in various locations in the United States and overseas in Brazil and Japan. Following retirement, the couple moved to the Eastern Shore in 1994.
She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Randall B. Baird of Austin, Texas; a daughter, Janet B. Scott of Vienna, Va.; a brother, Peter Colburn of Wilmington, Del.; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 106 Shamrock Road, Chester. Private burial will be in Maine.

Joseph Braun
Services for Joseph Anton Braun Sr., 81, of Severna Park, were held this afternoon at Singleton Funeral Home in Glen Burnie.
Mr. Braun died of renal failure June 15, 2001 at North Arundel Hospital in Glen Burnie.
Born on Feb. 29, 1920, in Baltimore, he was the son of Katherine Funk and John W. Braun. He served in the Army and the National Guard from 1941 to 1945.
He worked for 31 years for Kiefer and Braun, retiring as a manager.
Mr. Braun was a member of Elks Lodge 2482 and enjoyed fishing, crabbing, gardening and boating.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Frances Braun; one son, Joseph A. Braun Jr. of Severna Park; two daughters, Donna Marie Braun of Severna Park and Karen Byrd of Arnold; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Burial was in Maryland Veterans cemetery in Crownsville, Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, Maryland affiliate, 1107 Kenilworth Drive Suite 202, Towson, MD 21204.
Martin Gibbs
Martin Gibbs, 59, a resident of Odenton for more than two years and formerly of Glen Falls, N.Y., for 28 years, died of cancer June 14, 2001 at the Crofton Convalescent Center after a yearlong illness.
Mr. Gibbs was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Nov. 30 1941, and attended Franklin K. Lane High School in Jamaica, N.Y. He was employed by Wal-Mart both in Glen Falls, N.Y., and Laurel.
He was a member of Nichols Bethel United Methodist Church in Odenton and a former member of the United Methodist Church in White Hall, N.Y. He enjoyed horse racing.
Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Charlotte Gibbs; his son, Henry Gibbs of Odenton; his daughter, Donna Traynor of St. Petersburg, Fla.; his brother, Henry Gibbs of Las Vegas, Nev.; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hardesty Funeral Home, 851 Annapolis Road, Gambrills, where the funeral service will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow. The burial will follow in Epiphany Episcopal Church cemetery in Odenton.
