Kenny Prendergast
Kenneth Joseph "Kenny" Prendergast, 42, a resident of Grasonville for five years and previously of Annapolis, died of heart disease June 17, 2001 at Memorial Hospital in Easton after a six-year illness.
Mr. Prendergast was born in Baltimore on Sept. 30, 1958. He was employed as an automotive technician with Dempsey's Import Auto in Annapolis for five years.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, baseball, swimming, rock climbing and collecting baseball cards.
He is survived by his wife, Dawn Prendergast; his son, Joshua Prendergast of Grasonville; his daughter, Tiffany Prendergast of Grasonville; his brother, Shawn Prendergast of Greensboro; and two sisters, Donna Syverson of Chesapeake Beach and Kim Whitesell of Federalsburg. He was predeceased by his sister, Kathy Schaffer.
Services will be private. Arrangements are by Hardesty Funeral Home.
Lillian Russell
Lillian "Lilly" Russell, 93, a longtime resident of Edgewater, died of heart failure June 21, 2001 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Ms. Russell was born on April 15, 1908, in Ruckersville, Va., the daughter of Will and Georgie Shipp Garton.
During World War II, she worked at the Experimental Station in Annapolis. For more than 30 years, she worked at the former Capitol Drugs in Annapolis, filling orders at the soda fountain.
She was a longtime active member of the First Baptist Church of Edgewater. She loved to travel, especially to the New England area, and enjoyed cooking large meals for her whole family.
Surviving are her sister, Alice Couch of Annapolis, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Earnie and Aubrey Gardner and Charles and Jesse Garton, and one sister, Rosa Garton.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., and on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Edgewater, 38 W. Central Ave. in Edgewater, followed by the funeral service. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Linda Salyers
Linda Lee Salyers, 61, died of pancreatic and liver cancer June 21, 2001 at her home in Gambrills.
Mrs. Salyers was born June 3, 1940, in Washington, D.C., and graduated in 1956 from Arundel High School.
She was a trainer and breeder of Cairn terriers for 30 years. She was a floral designer for the Flower Arranger in Catonsville and Steigler's Florist in Jessup. She also sold real estate for Chris Coile.
A Red Cross swimming instructor, she taught at her pool at home.
Mrs. Salyers was a member of the Potomac Cairn Terrier Club where she held many offices and was a member of Potomac Cairn Rescue.
Her hobbies included dogs, cooking and traveling.
Surviving are her husband, James Douglas Salyers, whom she married
in 1956; two sons, David Lee Salyers and James Brian Salyers, both of Gambrills; one sister, Cassandra Sue Egloff of Oxon Hill; and two grandsons.
She was the daughter of the late Helen Edgar and Lee Grant Edwards.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Hardesty Funeral Home, 851 Annapolis Road, Gambrills, where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Glen Haven Cemetery.

Evangelene Wright
Evangelene "Eva" Wright, 61, of Huntingtown and formerly of Edgewater, died June 20, 2001 at her home after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Wright was born Feb. 4, 1940, in Zelienople, Pa., where she graduated from high school. A resident of Calvert County since 1975, she had lived in Edgewater from 1966 to 1975.
She was the proprietor of a craft and gift store, The Wright Touch, in Huntingtown from 1985 to 1998.
Her hobbies included traveling.
Surviving are her husband, Richard N. Wright, whom she married
in 1966; two sons, Phillip Wright of Lusby and Todd West of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, William and David Kennedy of Zelienople; one sister, Sue Hill of Bowie; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m to noon tomorrow at Rausch Funeral Home, 8325 Mount Harmony Lane, Owings, with funeral services immediately following. Internment will take place at Southern Memorial Gardens in Dunkirk.

Valentine Bauer
Retired Army Lt. Col. Valentine Philip "Val" Bauer, 83, formerly of Millersville, died of a heart attack June 24, 2001 at the Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville.
Lt. Col. Bauer was born Feb. 20, 1918, in New York where he graduated from the City College of New York with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the ROTC.
He did surveying work for the New York State Highway Administration before joining the Washington District Engineer Office as a civil engineer in the construction of the former Washington National Airport.
During World War II he served with the 600th Engineer Base Topographic Battalion and was awarded the Legion of Merit and the French Croix de Guerre.
After the war he served as a civilian in technical staff positions for the Army Map Service and subsequently received the Decoration for Exceptional Civilian Service, the Army's highest civilian award.
In 1972 he was named technical director of the newly formed Defense Mapping Agency Topographic Center.
He was a member of the Society of American Military Engineers and the American Society of Photogrammetry and wrote a book on the modernization of cartographic practices.
He was a vestryman, secretary-treasurer and president of St. James' Lutheran Church Council in Silver Spring. After moving to Millersville, he sang in the choir and served on the council of Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Severna Park. For 15 years, he and his wife, Anita Bauer, assisted with the church altar committee. He also volunteered as troop committee chairman of the Boy Scouts of America and as a coach at the Boys Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Dr. Valentine Richard Bauer of Arnold; two daughters, Anita Katherine Kraft of Brinklow in Montgomery County and Joyce Kent of Harrisburg, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, 400 Benfield Road, Severna Park. Burial will be in Maryland Veterans cemetery in Crownsville.

George Brown
Retired Army Lt. Col. George B. Brown, 86, a resident of Severna Park since 1957, died of heart failure June 22, 2001 at Harbor Hospital Center in Baltimore.
In his 30-year career, Lt. Col. Brown worked in military intelligence, retiring in 1976 as inspector general of the National Security Agency. His service included two tours of duty in World War II and the Korean War. A graduate of the Army War College, he retired from the Army Reserve in 1972.
Born in Oklahoma in 1914, and raised in Illinois, he received bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Illinois where he was an associate professor and head of acquisitions at the university's library for several years.
In 1938 he married
the former Laura Mary Ventresca of Western Springs, Ill. She died on April 15.
A dedicated volunteer, he was three times president of the Olde Severna Park Improvement Association and president of the Greater Severna Park Council and the Severn River Association. He also volunteered with the Baltimore Symphony Associates and served as a trustee and member of the board of directors.
He shared his wife's interests and involvement in the arts and cultural activities including the Sumi-e Society of America and Ikebana International. He also supported the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Walters Art Gallery, the Annapolis Symphony, Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, the Annapolis Opera, the Ballet Theatre of Maryland, the Asian Arts Center of Towson University, and the Maryland Science Center.
He received numerous citations and awards during his military and government service and for his public service in civic, community and fraternal organizations. His interests also included golf and supporting the Severna Park High School Falcon Field Boosters.
Surviving are three sons, David Alan Brown of Columbia, Donald Kent Brown of Churchton and Douglas Scott Brown of Richardson, Texas; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul E. Brown of Conesus, N.Y.; and a sister, Jeanne A. Paul of Sun City, Ariz.
