VERIFINIA M. CLARY
Verfinia Mae "Pooch" Clary, 80, of Mtn. Lake Park died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006, at her residence.
Born Dec. 25, 1925, in Blaine, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Taylor and Ilda (Northcraft) Male. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Joan Gordon.
Mrs. Clary was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Deer Park.
Surviving are her husband, William "Bill" Clary, daughter Connie Vahovick of Rose Haven; sister Peggy Foley of Carlisle, Pa.; and five grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
The family received friends on Monday, Aug. 7, at the Burdock-Durst Funeral Home, Oakland.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gail Hixon officiating. Interment followed in Garrett Memorial Gardens, Oakland.
TOMMY A. COSNER
Tommy A. Cosner, 61, Silver Spring and Oakland, died on Aug. 5, 2006.
A service was held at the Cosner (Locust Grove) Cemetery, Mt. Storm, W.Va., on Aug. 8.
The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the Oncology Care Association, 2730 University Blvd., Wheaton, MD 20902, or to the Helen Denit Center, 18105 Prince Philip Dr., Olney, MD 20832.

JOHN W. WARNICK
John W. Warnick, 84, Swanton, died Friday, Aug. 4, at the Oakland Nursing and Rehab Center.
Born on Nov. 28, 1921, in Piedmont, W.Va., he was the son of the late William T. and Bessie M. (Friend) Warnick. He was preceded in death by his wife, Odavea I. (McCrobie) Warnick, in 1999, and by one grandson, Dale Paugh.
He was a fireman for the B&O Railroad.
He is survived by three daughters, Patricia Paugh, Oakland, Twila Mayhugh, Mannington, W.Va., and Barbara Shaffer, Deer Park; four sons, Larry Warnick, Swanton, Mickey Warnick, Oakland, Robert Warnick, Aurora, W.Va., and Gary Warnick, Loch Lynn; and 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland. An interment service took place at the Deer Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Ivan Ackerman officiating.
RICKY A. METTY
Ricky Alan Metty, 52, Cumberland, died on Friday, Aug. 4, 2006, at his home.
Born March 3, 1954, in Cumberland, he was the son of James Alan Metty and Betty Elizabeth (Cook) Metty, Short Gap, W.Va.
He was employed by the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company. He was a member of the Western Maryland Street Rod Association, the Piney Mountain Sportsman’s Club, and the Bird Ridge Sportsman’s Club, as well as the Souls Harbor Church.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Helen V. (Groves) Metty; one son, Michael A. Metty, Cumberland; two daughters, Carla S. Snoots, Hernando, Miss., and Christa M. Huff, Friendsville; two brothers, Jimmy Metty and Rodger Metty; two sisters, Bonnie Thomas and Donna R. Long, Cumberland; and six grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, Cumberland, where the funeral service was held on Monday, Aug. 7, with the Rev. Betty Kennedy officiating.
Interment was in Davis Memorial Cemetery.
FRANCES BRELSFORD
Frances M. Brelsford, 80, Short Gap, W.Va., died Friday, Aug. 4, 2006, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Feb. 2, 1926, in Springfield, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Homer Richard and Jesse Pearl (Long) Didawick. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd "Port" Brelsford, and one brother, Homer Richard Didawick.
She was a retired cook for Mineral County Schools. She was a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Short Gap United Methodist Women, Woodmen of the World Lodge 6, Short Gap Senior Citizen Center, and Frankfort Senior Center.
Surviving are two daughters, Janet Weaver, Short Gap, and Brenda Ackerman, Deep Creek Lake; one son, Douglas Brelsford, Short Gap; five sisters, Marie Shrout, Fort Ashby, Elsie Bergdoll, Romney, W.Va., Isabelle Spiker, Everett, Pa., Betty Shrout, Short Gap, and Eva Pyles, Short Gap; and four grandchildren, one step-granddaughter, one great-grandson, one step-great-grandson, and two step-great-granddaughters.
Friends were received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cumberland, on Sunday. A funeral service was conducted at the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church on Monday, with the Rev. Martha S. Ognibene officiating.
Interment was in the Fort Ashby Cemetery.
The family requests that donations be made to the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund.
ELIZABETH RANDOL
Elizabeth Leighton Randol, 101, Loch Lynn, died Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital.
Born March 26, 1905, in Mtn. Lake Park, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Maude (Cale) Leighton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen T. Randol.
Mrs. Randol was an educated and accomplished wo-man with a successful career and family. After the death of her first husband, Lauer Stephenson, she went back to college to earn a master's degree in chemistry at the University of Maryland. She then went on to work at General Foods Corporation as a product manager, touring the country and introducing a new product at the time, which was Minute Rice.
She taught school at Southern High School, Oakland, for 20 years, and Fort Hill High School, where she was a home economics teacher. In addition to being a wonderful cook, Mrs. Randol loved to read. She read three newspapers a day and stayed abreast of the news of the world. She enjoyed traveling and went to many exciting places in her life, including Europe, Russia, Haiti, and Alaska.
Surviving are her two children, Barbara Stephenson McIntire, McHenry, and Edward V. Stephenson, Rock Ledge, Fla.; four grandchildren, Martha Randol McIntire Park, Charles H. McIntire Jr., Ann Mc-Intire Clifford, and Lisa Stephenson Arnold; and six great-grandchildren, Alexandra Dunbar, Charlie McIntire, Megan and Jessie Arnold, and Charlie and Grace Randol Clifford.
All friends, family and any former students are welcome to join us to celebrate Mrs. Randol's amazing life at a memorial service on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2 p.m., at the Burdock-Durst Funeral Home in Oakland, with the Rev. Mark Hickman officiating.
JUDITH ANN ZAPATA
Judith Ann Zapata of Houston, Texas, died July 22, 2006, from a heart attack sustained while at Knoxville, Tenn., for her granddaughter’s wedding. She was born on Sept. 19, 1942, in Aurora, W.Va., daughter of the late Charles L. and M. Florence (Dixon) Hardesty.
She attended school in Aurora and married Robert L. Myers in 1959. She and Bob lived in Morgantown, W.Va., Pittsburgh, Pa., and Houston, Texas, where they reared their three children. Judy worked as a floral arranger and did oil paintings. After their divorce, Judy met and married Benjamin C. Zapata, son of Bartolo and Guadalupe Zapata.
Judy was so talented, and many homes are graced with her beautiful floral arrangements and oil paintings. She could turn the dullest room into the most exquisite space, and her own home was always so warmly decorated. Her beautiful gardens showed her green thumb and wonderful design; but her shining talent was the love she had for her family and friends.
Judy had worked as a florist, and in the Texas General Store in Seabrook, but for the past several years she loved working at a gift shop and gallery called TLC -- Tender Loving Care.
She is survived by her husband, Ben; Robert L. (Julie) Myers II of Salt Lake City, Utah; Ann (Chris) Gaschler of Surfside, Texas, and Jennifer Parks, Houston. She is also survived by grandchildren Robert Myers III and Lucille Myers, Kristin, David, and Gavin Verzwyvelt, and Nicholas Myers; a sister, Doris E. Drenning; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Judy was preceded in death by her first husband, Bob, on July 8, 2006, one son, Chuck, in 2005, and a brother-in-law, Donald Drenning.
A memorial service was held in Houston on July 28 at Niday Funeral Home.
MARTIN HANDWERK
Martin Milton Handwerk, 88, Swanton, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital.
Born April 20, 1918, in Garrett, Pa., he was a son of the late Lloyd and Blanche (Ringler) Handwerk. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Elwood Handwerk, and four sisters, Fannie Wilt, Grace Murphy, Bertha Oester, and Alberta Handwerk.
He is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Home, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Friday, Aug. 11, from 9 until 11 a.m. A service will be conducted on Friday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Douglas Kabell officiating. Interment will be in the Broadwater Cemetery.
JOHN O. EDGAR
John O. Edgar, 74, Accident, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006, at his home.
Born on Feb. 23, 1932, in McHenry, he was the youngest son of the late John W. and Sadie F. (Sloan) Edgar. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Cecil, Lester, and George Edgar, and three sisters, Bernadine Long, Vera Clark, and Irene Peck. He was the last survivor of this family.
He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Oakland. He worked for nine years as an auto body mechanic at Oak View Motors, and then 20 years as a truck driver for Browning's Stone Quarry. He retired in 1998.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Elizabeth (DelSignore) Edgar, and one daughter, Michelle A. Mason, Waldorf.
At his request, there will be no visitation or memorial service, as his body was cremated. A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date.

SHERIDAN F. RISHELL
Sheridan F. Rishell, 66, Oakland, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born June 8, 1940, in Crellin, he was a son of the late William and Henrietta M. (Stottlemeyer) Rishell. He was also preceded in death by one son, Michael Allen Rishell.
He was a heavy equipment operator who worked for Frank Arnold Construction and retired from the Garrett County Roads Department.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn J. (Beckman) Rishell; two daughters, Connie Pritts and Amy Rishell, both of Oakland; three brothers, George Rishell, Cumberland, Jack Rishell, Loch Lynn Heights, and Charles Rishell, Oakland; and two grandchildren.
At his request, his body was cremated, and there was no viewing or service.
The Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, was in charge of arrangements.
