Roberta VanDuzer
Roberta Elizabeth Young VanDuzer, 70, of Port Republic, and formerly of Severna Park, died of cancer July 18, 2001 at her home.
Mrs. VanDuzer was born in Rhode Island and graduated from the Rhode Island School of Pharmacy now part of the University of Rhode Island.
She lived in Severna Park from 1952 to 1988 and was employed in the pharmacy department at Anne Arundel Medical Center and later at the Medical Center Pharmacy and Lee Pharmacy, both in Severna Park and the former South River Pharmacy in Edgewater.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Prince Frederick and was a former active member of Pasadena United Methodist Church.
She was active in church and community groups including Reach for Recovery, and the Calvert County Chapters of the American Association of University Women and the League of Women Voters.
Survivors include one son, James W. VanDuzer of Port Republic; three daughters, Gloria Scharmen of Port Republic, Judy Feeney of Elkridge, and Nancy White of Columbia; one sister, Eleanor Tucker of Rindge, N.H.; and nine grandchildren.
She was the widow of Kenneth Woodrow VanDuzer Jr. who died in 1990 and the sister of the late Raymond Young.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Trinity Church, where the funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at noon Tuesday at Wesley cemetery in Prince Frederick.
Arrangements are by the Rausch Funeral Home in Port Republic.

Iva Sharps
The location of visitation for Iva Estella Gross Sharps, 88, of Lothian, was incorrect in the obituary on July 19, 2001.
Mrs. Sharps died July 17, 2002 at the Millennium Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center at South River in Edgewater after a lengthy illness.
Visitation is from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Miller's Metropolitan Chapel funeral home, 1922 Forest Drive. A Christian wake will be at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, 41 Arch Road, Lothian. Burial will be in Moses cemetery in Drury.
Anthony Cannetti
Anthony "Tony" Cannetti, 71, a resident of Crofton for 28 years, died of respiratory failure Aug. 11, 2001 at his home after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Cannetti worked in financial management with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration for 38 years. He also was the founding executive director of the Crofton Chamber of Commerce.
Born July 31, 1930, in New York and an avid golfer, he was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Crofton and the Crofton Senior Men's Golf Association, serving as treasurer of both organizations. He also volunteered with the Crofton Police Department.
On Nov. 6, 1965, he married
Frances Cannetti.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Michael Cannetti of Houston, Texas, and Anthony Richard Cannetti Jr. of Portland, Ore.; two daughters, Lisa Lavin of Odenton and Donna Sanders of Huntsville, Texas; one brother, Charles Cannetti, and one sister, Marie Cannetti, both of Middletown, N.Y.; and six grandchildren.
Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 N.W. Crain Highway, Bowie. A Mass of Christian burial will be said at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1283 Odenton Road, Odenton, with burial in Lakemont cemetery in Davidsonville.

John Gravelle
John William Gravelle, 83, of Annapolis and a former longtime resident of Baltimore, died July 17, 2001 of natural causes at Memorial Hospital in Easton.
Mr. Gravelle was born Sept. 28, 1917, and raised in Turtle Creek, Pa. A graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, he served in the Army during World War II as a reconnaissance officer. He served aboard the first Allied ship to land in North Africa in 1942 and was a member of the first group of Allies that liberated Rome. His decorations and citations included the World War II Victory Medal and the Europe-Africa-Middle East campaign ribbon with seven battle stars. He served campaigns in Algeria-French Morocco, Tunisia, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, southern France and northern France-Rhineland.
Mr. Gravelle was a teacher for 41 years, retiring from the Baltimore County board of education. He spent most of his teaching career at Kenwood and Dundalk Senior High schools.
Surviving are his wife, Georgette Gravelle; his daughter, Arlette Dandy of Annapolis; his sister, Orla Klontz of Turtle Creek; and two grandchildren.
Burial will be at 3 p.m. Aug. 20 at Arlington National cemetery in Virginia. Arrangements are by Advent Funeral and Cremation Services.
Margaret Mekins
Margaret Gayhardt "Peg" Mekins, 58, a Pasadena resident for 29 years, died unexpectedly of heart failure Aug. 11, 2001 at North Arundel Hospital in Glen Burnie.
Mrs. Mekins was born in Baltimore on March 11, 1943, and raised in Pasadena. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Department and Anchor Baptist Church in Millersville.
She enjoyed ceramics, reading, taking walks, doing puzzles, cooking, playing cards and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was married
in 1960 to Milton James Mekins Sr.
Also surviving are her son, Milton James Mekins Jr. of Pasadena; three daughters, Margaret V. Mekins-Calabrese of Hanover, Debra L. Vogelsang of Severn and Brenda A. Geesman of Centreville; her mother, Margaret Gayhardt of Millersville; two sisters, Myrna Vidos of Lewes, Del., and Lee Stuples of Sykesville; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow and Wednesday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Anchor Baptist Church with burial to follow at Glen Haven cemetery in Glen Burnie.

Rev. Peter Caputo
Funeral services for the Rt. Rev. Peter A. Compton-Caputo, 67, rector of St. Paul's Chapel in Crownsville, will be held at noon Monday at the church, located on Generals Highway and Crownsville Road.
The Rev. Compton-Caputo died Aug. 15, 2001 at his Arnold home from complications from diabetes.
Born in Manhattan, he attended public schools in the city and enlisted in the Air Force in 1951, where he served for 5 years. After his discharge he became a police officer in Grand Rapids, Mich.
He later went into municipal government and served in city government posts in Ypsilanti, Mich., New York state, Pennsylvania and New Hampshire.
His career in the ministry began in Schenectady, N.Y., where he was ordained to the deaconate in the Episcopal church.
After seven years, he moved to the traditional Anglical Independent Communion, a traditional branch of the Episcopal church. He was assigned to a fledgling congregation, then called St. Charles the Martyr Parish.
He headed the congregation, now known as St. Paul's Chapel, since 1985. A few years ago, a second county parish, Mount Calvary Southern Episcopal, was organized at 812 Marlboro Road, Lothian, of which Rev. Caputo is rector.
He held honorary doctorate of theology degrees from St. James Seminary in Florida and from the Anglican Theological Seminary in California.
Before taking over the Crownsville congregation, he was vicar at St. Peters Neavy Church in Devon, England.
He was a member of the Order of the Swords of England, the Masonic Order, the Parole Rotary Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He had served as a chaplain for the county sheriff's department and the Maryland State Guard.
He also served a term on the Annapolis Housing Authority and was a former director of the Anne Arundel County House Arrest Program.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Compton-Caputo whom he married
in 1993; two daughters, Marilynn Weeks of Grand Haven, Mich, and Carol L. VonGarlem of Crownsville; two sons, Daniel C. Sharpe of Frederick and Shawn C. Sharpe of Pasadena; one sister, Mary Ruzicka of Holland, Mich; and two granddaughters.
Visitation will be from 2 to 10 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul's Chapel. Burial will follow the funeral on Monday in the church cemetery.
Arrangements are by the Hardesty Funeral Home in Annapolis.
