Carrie Parker
Carrie Virginia Parker, 82, affectionately known as "Shorty" and a resident of Severna Park, died Oct. 1, 2001 at the Annapolis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness.
Ms. Parker was the daughter of the late Archie Parker and Carrie Darnell. She was born March 24, 1919, in Annapolis and attended St. Mary's Catholic School.
She worked at the Naval Academy for 33 years before retiring in 1975.
Ms. Parker loved to bake and was known for her rolls that she made for family and friends. She also enjoyed bingo and crocheting, making blankets and booties for her grandchildren.
Surviving are her son, Thomas Nathaniel Dove Sr. of Severn; one brother, Archie Parker of Annapolis; her sister, Elizabeth Cook of Annapolis; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, James Parker.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Friday with a Christian wake at 1 p.m. and funeral service at 2 p.m. at Reese and Sons Mortuary, 821 West St. Burial will be in the Annapolis Memorial Gardens.
Myrtle Rawlings
Myrtle Mary Rawlings, 87, a 75-year resident of Annapolis, died of cancer Oct. 1, 2001 at Calvert Memorial Hospital in Prince Frederick after a year-long illness.
Mrs. Rawlings was born in Churchton on May 12, 1914, and attended Annapolis High School. A homemaker, she also worked at the Sara Edwards Dress Shop.
In 1934 she married
Harold Rawlings, who died in 1993.
Mrs. Rawlings was an ordained minister of healing at St. Anne's Episcopal Church, a Bible study leader and a member of Episcopal Church Women and the National League of American Pen Women.
She was president of the Christian Healing Foundation and enjoyed her home, family and gardening.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Cline of Rush, Ky.; her sister, Mamie Nieman of Shady Side; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
A memorial gathering will be held at 1 p.m. followed by the funeral services at 2 p.m. tomorrow at St. Anne's Episcopal Church on Church Circle. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home.
Mildred Sams
Mildred Fisher Sams, 85, of Annapolis, died Oct. 1, 2001 at Anne Arundel Medical Center of complications from injuries suffered in a fall.
Born April 13, 1916, in Madison County, N.C., Mrs. Sams moved to Annapolis in 1956 and was an active member of South Shore Baptist Church. A homemaker, she enjoyed reading and sewing.
Her husband, James O. Sams, died in 1968. She was the mother of the late James C. Sams and the sister of the late Clyde Fisher, Frances Buckner and Hazel Hudgins.
Surviving are one son, Kenneth L. Sams of Glen Burnie; one daughter, Joann Dooley of Annapolis; one brother, Harry W. Fisher of Asheville, N.C.; two sisters, Mabel Jenkins of Asheville and Irene Bradley of Marshall, N.C.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hardesty Funeral Home, 12 Ridgely Ave. Services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at South Shore Baptist Church in Crownsville and at 10 a.m. Oct. 10 at Madison Funeral Home in Marshall, N.C., where burial will follow in Long Branch Cemetery.

Harry Simmons
Harry P. Simmons, 82, a retired pharmacist and longtime resident of Severna Park, died of heart failure Oct. 2, 2001 at Long Green Center, Genesis ElderCare Network in Baltimore, where he had lived for the past 11 years.
Mr. Simmons was born Aug. 13, 1919, and raised in Baltimore, and graduated from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy in 1944. He served his apprenticeship with his uncle at the Albert E. Schmidt Pharmacy on Fort Avenue in South Baltimore.
Subsequently, he joined the Merchant Marine and was stationed in Sheepshead Bay, N.Y., in 1945.
He was married
for 42 years to Myrtle Graham Simmons, who died in 1997. They moved to their former summer home in Severna Park in 1955.
From 1967 to 1977 he worked at the Medical Center Pharmacy located in the Hahn Building in Severna Park before going to the Arundel Pharmacy in Glen Burnie.
Mr. Simmons was a member of the Maryland Pharmaceutical Association.
Surviving are one son, William C. Simmons of Honey Brook, Pa., and two grandchildren.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Glen Haven cemetery in Glen Burnie.
Suzanne Hartle
The date of the funeral services for Suzanne Marie De Prez Hartle, of San Antonio, Texas, and formerly of Annapolis, was incorrect in her obituary on Oct. 2.
Mrs. Hartle died Sept. 6, 2001 in San Antonio. Services will be held at 10 a.m Oct. 9 at the Naval Academy Chapel with inurnment at the Naval Academy Columbarium.
Fred Connatser
Fred Davis Connatser, 79, died Oct. 14, 2001 at his home in Cape St. Claire. The cause of death is unavailable.
Mr. Connatser was born Dec. 17, 1921, in Knoxville, Tenn. He married
Fleda Mae Wallace on Sept. 1, 1940, and they recently celebrated 61 years of marriage. The Connatsers moved to Maryland after their marriage.
During World War II, after Army basic training at Camp Davis, N.C., he served with the 195th Anti-Aircraft Battalion in Germany for three years. He was discharged in 1946.
After the war, Mr. Connester founded and was the president of Bay Floor Service in Arnold until his retirement in 1983. Three of his sons now own and operate the business.
He enjoyed reading and studying the Bible, socializing with friends and family and attending Fellowship Baptist Church in Ferndale.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Phill Connatser of Greensboro, N.C., Fred Connatser of Ridgley, Dennis Connatser of Cape St. Claire and Douglas Connatser of Glen Burnie; four daughters, Joyce Moberly of Denton, Paula Dezes of Tarpon Springs, Fla., Becky Caliendo of Pasadena and Rena Butler of West River; 10 brothers and sisters in Tennessee, Florida and Virginia; 21 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors today and tomorrow from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Singleton Funeral Home, 1 Second Ave. SW in Glen Burnie. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fellowship Baptist Church, 1015 Sundown Road in Ferndale. Burial will follow at Glen Haven cemetery in Glen Burnie.
Lora DiBenio
Lora Tarell DiBenio, 88, a resident of Annapolis for 61 years, died of complications of a stroke and dementia on Oct. 13, 2001 at Fairfield Nursing Home in Crownsville after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. DiBenio was born Sept. 8, 1913, in Grasonville and graduated from a nursing school in New York. She worked as a nurse until she met her husband, who was one of her patients, was married
and became a homemaker. Later in life she became a home health nurse for children.
She was a member of Grasonville Seventh Day Adventist Church and a former member of Rebecca's Lodge in Annapolis. Her interests included gardening and her grandchildren.
The widow of Henry DiBenio and mother of the late John H. DiBenio, she is survived by one son, Joseph F. DiBenio of Annapolis; one daughter, Dodi Davis of Greenbelt; two sisters, Iola Melvin of Grasonville and Marion Wingo of Yountsville, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. tomorrow at Hardesty Funeral Home, 12 Ridgely Ave., where services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Chesterfield cemetery in Centreville.
