Doris Glatzel
Doris Ida Schemm Glatzel, 80, a resident of Severna Park for 50 years, died Oct. 13, 2001 of heart failure at Future Care-Chesapeake in Arnold after a two-month illness.
Mrs. Glatzel was born in Randallstown on July 15, 1921, and graduated from Randallstown High School. She worked for the Anne Arundel County Board of Education as a secretary in the central office until her retirement.
Mrs. Glatzel enjoyed gardening, ceramics, sewing, cross-stitch and doll making.
Surviving are her husband, Edwin Glatzel; two sons, Edwin Glatzel of Ellicott City and Gary Glatzel of Las Vegas, Nev.; two daughters, Doris Kniess of Pasadena and Barbara Mettle of Severna Park; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, where the funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Maryland Veterans cemetery in Crownsville.

Leon Myers
Leon Raymond Myers, 76, a native and lifelong resident of Annapolis, died of a heart attack Oct. 11, 2001 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Mr. Myers graduated from the former Wiley H. Bates High School. During World War II, he served in the Army as a corporal from 1943 to 1946.
Before his retirement in 1986, he worked as a supply clerk at the county Health Department.
He was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist church and enjoyed bowling and playing golf.
In 1987 he was married
to Louise Taylor Myers.
Also surviving are four sons, Carl Myers of Washington, D.C., Gilbert Myers of Baltimore, William Myers of Gallatin, Tenn., and Perry Taylor of Annapolis; four daughters, Roxanne and Suctonia Turner of Annapolis, Susie Connor of Baltimore and Betty Myers of California; and one brother, Russell B. Myers of Annapolis.
He was the father of the late Angela Myers.
Visitation wil begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, 612 Second St., Eastport, where a Christian wake will be at 10:30 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Maryland Veterans cemetery in Crownsville. Arrangements are by Reese and Sons Mortuary.
Margaret Niles
Because of security changes at the Naval Academy, the funeral service for Margaret Rudy Niles has been moved to Calvary United Methodist Church, 301 Rowe Blvd., at 11 a.m. tomorrow. Burial will be private.
Mrs. Niles, 80, a 55-year resident of the Wardour area of Annapolis, died Oct. 12, 2001 at Somerford Place in Annapolis.

Mrs. Small died of heart failure Oct. 12 in Connecticut. She is survived by one son, Frederick G. Small of West Suffield.
William Melville, first MBNA president dies
William F. Melville Jr., 80, who oversaw consumer lending for nearly 25 years for Maryland National Bank, died Oct. 10, 2001 of respiratory failure from Alzheimer's disease at Future Care-Chesapeake in Arnold.
A resident of Severna Park for the past six years, Mr. Melville previously lived in Roland Park in Baltimore.
He became the first president and chief executive officer of credit card giant MBNA America in 1982 when Maryland National Bank formed the company and consolidated its growing credit card business in Delaware. Since then it has become a public company and grown to become the largest independent credit-card issuer in the world with $92.6 billion in managed loans.
He retired from the company in 1985, 39 years after he began his banking career as a teller with Fidelity Trust in Baltimore, which Maryland National Bank acquired. He rose steadily in the company and in 1962 was named vice president and headed its new consumer banking department.
He managed all consumer credit activities for the bank's 66 offices in the region including the Eastern Shore and Southern Maryland.
He negotiated the purchase in 1967 of Charg-It of Baltimore and in 1969 he was elected senior vice president of the bank. He was one of the founding members of what is now MasterCard International and served on its board.
Mr. Melville was president of the Maryland Bankers Association and chairman of the Fifth Federal Reserve district advisory board to the American Bankers Association. He was chairman of the Graduate School of Retail Bank Management at the University of Virginia, the board of the Maryland Banking School and the board of the Blind Industries and Services of Maryland as well as a member of the American Bankers Association governing council and several organizations.
Born in Baltimore, he graduated from Mount St. Joseph's High School, Loyola College of Maryland and the Graduate School of Retail Bank Management at the University of Virginia. He served in the Army during World War II and was on Gen. George Patton's staff during the Battle of the Bulge. He retired from the Army Reserve in 1953 and received various medals.
Mr. Melville was a member of the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen in Baltimore and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Severna Park, as well as the Center and Hopkins clubs.
He enjoyed running, weight lifting, competitive swiming, reading and travel, and completed the 12-mile Chesapeake Bay swim in second place. He was backstroke champion in both the Maryland Senior Olympics and the National Senior Olympics.
In 1944 he married
the former Shirley Hunt who died in November 2000.
Surviving are a daughter, April M. Clark of Severna Park; one granddaughter; and two sisters, Mary Melville of Perry Hall and Ethel Wille of Madonna in Harford County.
A memorial Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. Oct. 20 at St. John the Evangelist Cathlolic Church, Ritchie Highway and Cypress Creek Road, Severna Park.

Gary Boone
Gary Michael Boone, 54, a resident of Annapolis for 21 years, died Oct. 15, 2001 at Washington Hospital Center after a brief illness.
Mr. Boone was born April 30, 1947, in Washington, D.C., graduated from McLean, Va., High School and attended Lee College in Minnesota.
He was sales manager for Fitzgerald Mazda and Mitsubishi.
He belonged to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Annapolis and the Friends Foundation. His interests included golf, snow skiing and sailing.
Surviving are his wife, Laura Elliott Boone; two sons, James Elliott Boone of Annapolis and John Taylor Boone of Arnold; his mother, Doris L. Boone of Annapolis; two brothers, Joseph Brent Boone III of Annapolis and John Taylor Boone of North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one sister, Sharon Elizabeth Gloden of Arlington, Va.; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St. A funeral Mass will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester St. Burial is private.

Edward Davis
Edward Lee Davis, 44, of Lothian, died Oct. 12, 2001 in Upper Marlboro. The cause of death is not available.
Born Feb. 1, 1957, in Cheverly, Mr. Davis was the son of Dorothy Lee Davis of Charlotte Hall and the late Theodore Davis. He was the brother of the late Jonathan Davis.
He attended Prince George's County public schools and was a self-employed carpenter.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two daughters, Janet Whitmer of Lothian and Michelle Davis of Laurel; two brothers, Daniel Davis of Charlotte Hall and Richard Davis of Romney, W.Va.; and four sisters, Jean Hoffman of Laurel, Ruth Shegogue of Lothian, Mary Hankins of Iowa and Kathleen Warwick of Dunkirk.
Visitation is from 4 to 5 p.m. today at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, with the funeral service at 5 p.m. Burial will be private.
