Savanna Sofia "Sofie" Turbush, 7, of California, MD, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2014 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on December 29, 2006, in Leonardtown, MD, she is the daughter of Edward Joseph Turbush and Timea Hegyesi Turbush.
Sofie was a bright ray of sunshine, vibrant and full of life. She was feisty and excelled academically. She loved to swim and was an exceptional reader. She was a loving and caring big sister for her brother, Jaxson. She was excited for birth of her infant baby sister, Isabella.
In addition to her parents, Sofie is survived by her brother, Jaxson Turbush and sister, Isabella Sofia Turbush; her grandparents, Tunde and Laszlo Hegyesi of Hungary; her grandfather; Edward Joseph Turbush of Coram, NY; her grandmother, Janice Marie Cope (Pete) of Harrah, OK; her step-grandmother, Barbara Turbush (Dan Lotten) of Kings Park, NY; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Family will receive friends for Sofie's Life Celebration on Friday, June 27, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with a funeral service celebrated by Pastor Walt Nilsson at 1:30 p.m., at Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. Interment will follow at Charles Memorial Gardens in Leonardtown, MD 20650.

Barbara "Snizzles", Lee Wetzel, 75, of La Plata, MD, passed away at her residence on March 27, 2014. Born on August 31, 1938 in Leonardtown, MD, she was the loving daughter of the late William Edward and Essie Eulalia Downs Owens. Barbara is survived by her children; Linda Thompson of Lexington Park, MD, Kristina Huckabee of Indian Head, MD, Paul Wetzel (Mary), Alan Wetzel (Lori), both of Mechanicsville, MD, Cheri Wetzel of Plattsmouth, NE, Patrick Wetzel (Aaron Kaburick) of New York, NY, 7 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. Sisters; Gladys Pilkerton and Betty Woods. She is preceded in death by her siblings; Mary Catherine, Mitchell Owens, Regina Wilhemina Owens, Rita Joy, Irene Robertson, Lindy Owens, Francis Walter Owens, Donald Edward Owens, Jack Owens, and Bob Owens. Barbara graduated from Margaret Brent and Graduated from Charles County Community College in 1985, she earned her Associates of Science Degree in Nursing. She worked as a registered Nurse at Civista Medical Center, retiring after 26 years in 2003. Barbara belonged to TOPS, and was an avid crossword puzzle solver, avid Redskin fan, and she loved all sports. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 31, 2014 from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart Catholic Church La Plata, MD, with Father Robert Buchmeier and Father Ron Potts con celebrating. Interment will follow in Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery, Helen, MD. Pallbearers: Paul Huckabee, Eric Wetzel, Kenneth Woods, Glenn Woods, Kevin Woods, and Henry Washington. Lydia Kester, 84, of St. Leonard, Maryland, passed away on March 26, 2014 in Georgetown University Hospital, Washington DC.
She was born June 18, 1929 in Prague, Czechoslovakia, to the late Karl and Lydia Tscherney.
Lydia worked as an interpreter in Germany for the American Armed Forces before moving to the United States. She loved horseback riding, and square dancing.
Lydia was predeceased by her son, Philip Kester. She is survived by her grandson, Thomas Kester of Alexandria, Virginia, daughter-in-law Carol Petro, of Alexandria, Virginia, her sister, Gertraude Schmitt, and her son, Martin, both of Nuerenberg, Germany. She is also survived by her dear friend, Howard Hickman of St. Leonard.
Friends may call at the Rausch Funeral Home, 4405 Broomes Island Road, Port Republic, Maryland, on Monday, March 31, 2014 from 10 to noon where funeral services will follow at noon. Interment Chesapeake Highland, Port Republic, Maryland.

Evelyn "Evie" Maude Stillwagon, 91, of Mechanicsville, MD, formerly of Cambridge Springs, PA, passed away on March 26, 2014 in Leonardtown, MD. Born June 23, 1922 in Boston, MA, she was the daughter of the late George and Margaret White Smith. Evie is survived by her son Mark D. (Lori) Stillwagon of Mechanicsville, MD, siblings; Elsie Butler of San Diego, CA, Helen Stine of Titusville, FL, Stella MacIssac, Falmouth, MA, and Mitzi Meyer of Denver, CO, and 5 grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Evie was preceded in death by her sisters; Florence Whipple, Ethel Wall, Jane Kavanagh, and Peggy Caulfield. Evie graduated from Brighton High School in 1939, she worked as a Secretary for the Lord Corporation retiring in 1988. She enjoyed reading and gardening. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 31, 2014 in Cambridge Springs, PA, with Father David L. Poulson officiating.
Brigitte Ruth Saager, 78, of Lusby, MD, passed away suddenly at her residence on March 25, 2014, after a long struggle with heart disease. Brigitte was born on July 6, 1935 in West Berlin, Germany, to the late Gerhard Hopp and Erika Ehling Hopp.
Brigitte is survived by her loving daughter, Christine and her husband, Ken Moore of Mechanicsville, MD; two grandsons, Ryan W. Baldwin of California, MD and Eric A. Baldwin of St. Leonard, MD; sister, Inge H. and her husband, Horst Rosenthal and her niece, Gabriele E. and her husband, Doug Walker both of Ottawa, Canada.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 5 11:00 AM at Harvest Fellowship, 9905 H.G. Trueman Road, Lusby, MD 20657 with Pastor Rich Good officiating. Interment will be private.

Bertha "Imogene" Russell, 86

Imogene Russell, 86, of Lexington Park, MD, died March 25, 2014 at Covenant Hospice in Panama City, Florida.
Born February 24, 1928 in Tucker Hill, VA, she was the daughter of the late Ida and Randolph Thomas.
She was the wife of Emmitt Russell, whom she married May 9, 1946. He preceded her in death on November 27, 2001. She had worked at Sears and in the Loan Department at Maryland Bank and Trust. Imogene was a longtime resident of St. George's Island.
Imogene is survived by her son, Richard Russell and wife, Jeannie of Panama City, FL; her grandson, Christopher Russell of Long Island, N.Y. and her brother, Carroll Thomas of Boyce, VA. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Lee Russell and her brother, Walter Thomas.
Family will receive friends on Monday, March 31, 2014 from 11 a.m. to noon at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22945 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. A Funeral service will be celebrated by Reverend Elizabeth Jackson at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow at Charles Memorial Gardens in Leonardtown, MD.

Daniel J. Swiderski, 56, of Aquasco, MD, passed away on March 25, 2014 at his residence.
He was born on August 5, 1957 in Bethesda, MD, to Mr. and Mrs. John Daniel Swiderski.
Daniel considered Georgia, where he grew up, to be his real hometown. Talented with his hands, and blessed in a way with people, he created his own contracting business "Sticks and Stones". There, he provided services to the community and employment for friends, family, and other business men. Yet it was as the center of a large, blended family that Daniel truly found his happiness and fulfillment. He will be truly missed.
Daniel is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Eugenia Swiderski and his children, Jeffery, Phillip, Maria, Stacey, Angela, John, David, and Anthony (Pitter). He is further survived by his grandchildren, Kylie, Ashlyn, Isabella, Ava, Easton, and Giovanni.
Family and friends will be received for Daniel's Memorial Life Celebration Gathering on Sunday, March 30, 2014 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. Robert L. "Al" Hayes, 73

Robert L. (Al) Hayes, 73, of Leonardtown, Maryland, passed away March 25, 2014 at the St. Mary's Hospice House in Callaway, Maryland, surrounded by family and friends after a courageous battle with heart disease.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, on 18 June, 1940, he was the son of the late Frank Hayes, Sr., and Jeannette Hayes.
Al is survived by his beautiful and loving wife of 50 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Robinson Hayes of Leonardtown, Maryland; brothers, Frank J. Hayes, Jr., James T. Hayes and his wife, Cindy of Michigan; his nephew, Al Norris of Danville, California; and nieces, Autumn Hayes, Robin Hayes, Julie Rombach, Patty Kline and Lorrie Schmidt of Michigan, Marlo Hayes of Texas; and many grandnieces and nephews in Maryland and Michigan.
In addition to his parents, Al is predeceased by his brother, Richard Hayes of Michigan, and niece Robin Keller, wife of Charlie Keller of Waldorf, Maryland.
Al was a United States Navy veteran, serving proudly with his brothers of Patrol Squadron 44. After his faithful military service, Al worked for the Harry Lundeberg School of Seamanship - Paul Hall Center, in Piney Point, Maryland, as the grounds supervisor and mentor to young men, where he retired with over 29 years of dedicated service.
Al was a loving husband, a brother to his shipmates, and a caring friend to many. He loved to travel, visit his favorite casino with Betty, and attend his squadron reunions. He was an avid outdoorsman, gardener and antique collector. One of his favorite joys was having a good time; and no matter what the situation, he always did. Al was a true inspiration to the people he met and always had a kind word for others. He loved life and lived his to the fullest. Al will always be remembered for his dry wit, honesty, equality for all, and his strong belief in unionism.
The family will receive friends for Al's Life Celebration on Sunday, March 30, 2014 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, Maryland 20650, with prayers being recited at 4:00 p.m. by Father Scott Woods. A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 31, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Charles Memorial Gardens, 26325 Point Lookout Road, Leonardtown, MD. The funeral procession will assemble in the Brinsfield Funeral Home parking lot at 9:30 a.m.
Pallbearers will be his brothers of Patrol Squadron 44, Jeff Snavely, Richard Nevala, Robert Groat, and Roy Veach.
