Rena Mae Smith, 59, of Lusby, MD, passed away suddenly on March 16, 2014 at her residence. She was born on September 4, 1954 in Dover, DE, to Rev. Dr. Rudy C. Brooks and the late Lou Ella Brooks.
Rena graduated from Great Mills High School in 1974 and continued her education at the College of Southern Maryland, Calvert County Campus. She was a Medical Technician, and worked at Calvert Memorial Hospital, Prince Frederick, MD. Rena was a block captain and President of the Youth Committee in the White Sands Community.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Lou Ella Brooks, her son, John C. Smith Jr. and her grandson, Kane Smith. She is survived by her father, Rev. Dr. Rudy C. Brooks of Lexington Park, MD; her children, Kimberly R. Smith of Lexington Park, MD, and Donald M. Burns, Jr. of Lusby, MD; her siblings, Ruby L. Thompson and her husband, Francis of Waldorf, MD, Pearl L. Brooks, Mary H. Brooks and Sarah L. Brooks all of Lexington Park, MD, Jimmie L. Brooks of Prince Frederick, MD, Johnnie L. Brooks and his wife, Lillie of Park Hall, MD, and Osie M. Shade of Ridge, MD; a granddaughter, Zoranna R. Smith of Lexington Park, MD, and her god-son, Johnnie L. Brooks, Jr. of Virginia Beach, VA.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 21, 2014 from 10:30 AM until time of funeral services at 12 Noon in the Rausch Funeral Home, P.A., 20 American Lane, Lusby, MD. The Rev. R. Todd Marple will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Mark UAME Church Cemetery, Valley Lee, MD.

Estelle Mae Arleo, 89, of Solomons, MD, passed peacefully on March 16, 2014 at Asbury-Solomons Health Care Center, Solomons, MD. She was born August 28, 1924 in Norfolk, VA, to the late William Christian and Stella Mae Wolfe residing in Norfolk, VA, and Washington Metropolitan Area. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dominick. Estelle's happy and gratifying life was a result of her love for family and friends. She was most happy near water, Patuxent River, Virginia Beach, Mediterranean Sea and the Intercoastal Waterway.
She is survived by her three loving children and their spouses, Russell and Pat Hall of LaPlata, MD, Rennie and Frank Toskey of Chantilly, VA, and Edward Lauman and Dee Peters of Solomons, MD. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Melissa Hawkins and Bethany Lauman, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 26, 10:00 AM at the Rausch Funeral Home, P.A., 20 American Lane, Lusby, MD, with her funeral service to be held at 11:00 AM with Rev. Henry Joseph "Hank" Kanowicz, 86

Henry Joseph Kanowicz was born in Shamokin, PA, on January 13, 1928 to John Kananowicz and Johanna Jurasz. He grew up in the coal mining regions of PA. He finished his public school education at Coal Township High School in PA, in 1945. He served in the U.S. Navy from December 1945 to October 1946 with an honorable discharge. He married Agnes Rita Laskoski on June 11, 1949. He graduated in 1951 from Mount St. Mary's College with a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics and then received a Master's of Science Degree by Bucknell University in 1953. After graduation, he began his career in education as a math and physics teacher at Mt. Airy High School in MD, from 1951-1954 making a mere $2, 400 per year. Then, he became the Principal at Elmer A. Wolfe School from 1954-1959 at the age of 26. Thereafter, he became the Principal at Francis Scott Key High School from 1959-1964. In 1964, St. Mary's County Public School Systems was rapidly expanding. There was a specific need for someone to run its fiscal affairs. Mr. Kanowicz received the appointment as Director of Business Administration. He retained this position from 1964 - 1979, when he was appointed Assistant Superintendent for Business and Support Services from 1979 - 1980. In 1981, he was given the title of Director of Business Operations. It was from this position that Mr. Kanowicz retired from the Board of Education and then moved on to Long and Foster as a part-time real-estate agent.
Henry's favorite past times were watching Univ. of Maryland sports and enjoying family gatherings. Henry was a loving husband to Agnes for 56 years until her death on August 1, 2005. Henry was the most compassionate, loving, generous and unprejudiced husband, father and grandfather that anyone could ever ask for. We were truly blessed.
Henry is survived by his four children, Mark (Jane) Kanowicz, Sandra (Alvin) Hancock, Glenn (Robin) Kanowicz, and Martha (Devon) Treasure; eight grandchildren, Jessica, Brian, Jenna, Heather, Kevin, Rachel, Lauren, and Mitchell; seven great-grandchildren, Carmen, Caleb, Makayla, Eli, Ethan, Avery and Olivia; and one sister, Sophia Yasalonis of New Cumberland, PA.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church, Leonardtown, MD. Interment will follow in Queen of Peace Cemetery, Helen, MD.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Kanowicz, Glenn Kanowicz, Alvin Hancock, Brian Hancock, Kevin Hancock, Mitchell Kanowicz and Devon Treasure. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Henry's grandchildren and the Leonardtown Lion's Club.

Julia Lingner (Long) Quade, 89, of California, MD, died peacefully at the St. Mary's Nursing Center, Leonardtown, MD.
She was born on March 30, 1924 in Oraville, MD, the daughter of the late James Matthew Long and Julia Dorothy Long. Julia was the loving wife of the late William R. Quade, Sr., whom she married on April 24, 1954 in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Morganza, MD.
She was a lifelong resident of St. Mary's County, and graduated from Margaret Brent High School in 1943. She worked for a short time at Southern Maryland Oil, but then spent her remaining years as a homemaker, loving wife and mother. Julia enjoyed watching the Redskins (especially when John Riggins was playing), taking short trips. One of her favorite places was Stratford Hall in VA. She loved drinking a good, hot cup of coffee, eating chicken wings, watching any Western, watching The Kentucky Derby, loved her pockey books, going to Mass and saying the rosary. If you were hungry, she always had something there home cooked. She specialized in roast beef, meatloaf, "Poor Man's Soup" and peach cake. Julia loved all her children, grandchildren and her great-grandson. She was an unselfish woman with much dignity. May she always be remembered as being free and independent. She was our Mom Moms.
She is survived by her children: Sharon M. Risling of California, MD, Matthew W. Quade (Lori) of Mechanicsville, MD. Step-children: Mary Ellen Rucks of Okeechobee, FL, Frances Ann Holyoak, Catherine R. Mattingly (Billy) and William (Ray) R. Quade, Jr. (Barbara) all of Mechanicsville, MD, Barbara J. Wilson (Dean) of Hollywood, MD. grandchildren: Lauren C. Copenhaver (Nick), Brett M. Quade, Samuel A. Quade and Illysa D. Quade and one great-grandson, Nicholas J. Copenhaver. Sister: Dorothy A. Barber of Mechanicsville, MD.
In addition, to her parents, Julia was preceded in death by her brother, Charles (Hots) T. Long and one step-son, James Harold Quade (Carolyn).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on March 28, 2014 at 11:00 am at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church, 43927 St. John's Road, Hollywood MD, 20636 with Father Schmidt officiating. Interment will be private.

Peggy Louise Finch Sasscer, 75, of Mechanicsville, MD, passed away March 15, 2014 at the Chesapeake Shores Nursing Center.
Born August 28, 1938 in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of Charles Finch and Velma Willingham Finch.
Peggy was a homemaker and bookkeeper for A-1 Auto Glass.
Peggy enjoyed doing genealogy research and flower gardening.
Peggy was predeceased by her parents and son, Jeffrey Sasscer.
She is survived by her husband, Lee Sasscer; son, Charles Sasscer of Cottondale, FL and daughter, Robin Maude of La Plata, MD; sisters, Carol Earnshaw and Helen Hardesty, both of La Plata, MD; grandsons, Lee Sasscer of Charlotte Hall, MD, and Wesley Murray of La Plata, MD; granddaughter, Heather Warner of Cumberland, MD, and 4 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends for Peggy's Life Celebration on Thursday, March 20, 2014 from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD 20622.

Edward "Ted" John Deasy, III, 28

Edward John Deasy, III (Ted) "guardian", was born January 31, 1986, and returned to God, on March 15, 2014. Ted was extremely generous with a never-ending love for his family. Family reunions were something he looked forward to each year, especially time spent together with his cousins. He loved adventure - be it on land or on water. His shared his love for motorcycles and boating with his father, his very best friend. He was an avid sports fan, especially showing his pride in the Baltimore Orioles whenever possible. He had found his calling as an electrician and loved what he did every day. He looked forward to each new challenge and climbing to the top of those open buildings under construction just to say he could do it! Cruising with his family was a favorite vacation pastime. It was on his most recent cruise that he met the love of his life, Ashleigh. On March 14, Ted said, "last day of 'vaca' been a good three weeks, and the two weeks with Ashleigh Koochin were the best of my life!!" Ted lived life to the fullest, despite any obstacles he faced. He was always smiling, had an outstanding sense of humor and found something amusing in every situation - you could always tell by the twinkle in his eye! Ted graduated from Leesville High School and attended Wake Technical Community College. He earned his electrical journeyman license and worked at Jim Corridon Electric. He was currently pursuing his Master Electrician license. Ted is survived by his parents, Ed and Bev Deasy, Avenue, Maryland; his fiance', Ashleigh Koochin of Castlegar, British Columbia; his paternal grandmother, Mel Deasy of Brooksville, Florida, his aunts and uncles: Debbie Shade of Scottsdale, Virginia, Eileen Jimenez, Maureen and Mike Reidy, Christine and Christopher Christoff of Tampa, Florida, and Kathy and Huey Dyer of St. Petersburg, Florida. Cousins, Michael and Melissa Reidy, Tara Jimenez, Katie Conkowycz, Christopher and Camryn Christoff of Florida. Ted is proceeded in death by his brother Matthew Deasy, his paternal grandfather, Ed Deasy, his maternal grandparents, Al and Rose Shade, his Uncle Bert Jimenez and his Aunt Patty Fusaro. Roman Catholic Mass will concelebrated by family friend, Father James Patrick McCabe, C.S.R., and Rev. Charles A. Cortinovis on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 23080 Maddox Rd., Bushwood, MD, 20618. Friends and Family will be welcome after the service at 21045 Oakland Hall Road, Avenue, MD, to celebrate his life. Marian Edythe Jones, 85 of St. Inigoes, MD, died March 15, 2014 at the Hospice House of St. Mary's.
Born October 26, 1928 in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late John Keithley and Amelia Christina Keithley.
Marian loved gardening and was a member of the gardening club. She enjoyed quilting, boating with her husband and volunteering at the Mulberry Shop in St. Mary's City. She was a very active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in St. Mary's City.
Marian is survived by her husband, Joseph T. Jones, whom she married on June 4, 1948 in Washington, DC; her children, Kristy Fraser of Sumerduck, VA, and Thomas D. Jones of Manassas, VA; grandchildren, Erika Johnston of Sumerduck, VA, and Robyn Fraser-Cornell of Remington, VA; great-grandchildren, Emily Johnston and Savannah Cornell; and sister, Ruth Keithley-Hutt of Brandywine, MD. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, John Howard Keithley.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Chapel, Ridge, MD. Interment will follow in Trinity Episcopal Cemetery, St. Mary's City, MD.

Anna Ruth Parreira, 76, a long-time resident of Crownsville, MD, and more recently of Lusby, MD, passed peacefully on March 14, 2014 at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home, Charlotte Hall, MD. Anna was born April 10, 1937 in Denning, IL, to John and Ursula Zukosky and raised in the coalmining town of West Frankfort, IL. She retired from a career in the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA), working at the Fort Meade, MD, and Scott Air Force Base, IL, facilities. Anna is preceded in death by her husband, Alfred "Rocky" Parreira (MSGT RET), son of the late Robert and Faye Voss, as well as her eight siblings. She is survived by her four loving children and their spouses, Roxanne and Larry Arch of Waldorf, MD, Frank and Cheryl Parreira of Annapolis, MD, Jack and Lara Parreira of Solomons Island, MD, and Mary and Wallace Spangler of Chesapeake Beach, MD. Also surviving are grandchildren Kristin, James, Brian, Jake, Noel, Jesse, Gabriele and Seth; and great-grandchildren Camden and Charley. Anna is also survived by her much beloved dog, Missy, who gave her many years of faithful companionship.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Historic Church, 90 Alexander Lane, Solomons, MD 20688 on Saturday, March 22, 12:00 noon.
Interment will be on a date to be determined at Arlington National Cemetery.
