Halton Hardy "Hal" Wilcox, 79

Halton Hardy "Hal" Wilcox, 79, of Leonardtown, MD, passed away on June 20, 2014 at Medstar Southern Maryland Hospital Center.
Born on April 25, 1935, in Bogalusa, LA, he was the son of the late Halton Wilcox and Isabel (Hardy) Wilcox.
Hal graduated from Glynn Academy in Brunswick, GE.
He proudly served in the United States Navy for 20 years as a Petty Officer First Class working with P-3's.
Upon retirement from the Navy, he worked as a Logistics Technician for Tracor until his final retirement.
On September 25, 1980, he married his late wife, Marie Clotilde Wilcox, until her death in February 2005.
On July 6, 2006, he married Charlene Wilcox.
Together they have celebrated almost 8 wonderful years together.
He was an avid guitarist. He played in Hal Wilcox and the Southern Hospitality Country Band for over twenty years.
He also enjoyed listening to bluegrass music.
He loved to cheer on the Dallas Cowboys football team and watch old western movies.
He was an active member of Callaway Baptist Church, where he was an usher and enjoyed singing in the choir.
In addition to his wife, Hal is survived by his children, Christopher M. Wilcox of Hollywood, MD, Karen M. Lusk of Great Mills, MD, Joseph C. Howe (Maralynn) of Callaway, MD, and Louis M. Howe (Rhonda) of Texas; stepchildren, George Phillip "Jeep" Conley (April) of Great Mills, MD, and Holly Lynn Walsh (Brian) of Leonardtown, MD; sisters, Pearl Schumacher of Naukesha, WI and Mona Owens of SC; grandchildren, Amanda Wilcox, Kelly Howe, Rachael Howe, Dillon Howe, Alex Lusk, II, Branden Walsh, Kyle Walsh, Saige Walsh, Sunny Nicholson, Steven Nicholson, Phillip Conley, Georgia Conley, Beverly Jean Buckler, Joseph Clarence Howe, III, and Ronald Stephen Alvey, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Denise Clotilde "Cloey" Wilcox, Brittney Bean, Jason Alvey, Taylor Williams, Layla Williams, Camryn Buckler, Oden Howe, and Dylan Hobbs.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Marie Clotilde Wilcox; his brother, Charlie Wilcox and a sister, Ethel Bianchi.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, June 26, 2014 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 27, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at Callaway Baptist Church, 20960 Point Lookout Road, Callaway, MD 20620.
Interment will follow at St. Mary's Queen of Peace Cemetery, 38888 Dr. Johnson Road, Mechanicsville, MD 20659.

Charles "Charlie" Aloysius Hall, 78 of Bushwood, MD, passed away on June 19, 2014 at his home surrounded by family in Leonardtown, MD. Born August 22, 1935, he was the son of Charles Augustus Hall of Bushwood, MD, and Amy Lucele Harris of Compton, MD. Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Ellen Wilkinson Hall whom he married on November 30, 1957 in Washington DC, Sister; Cora Loveless (Ralph) Children; James Michael "Mike" Hall (Joan), Deborah Lynn Brooks (Warren), David Keith Hall (Nancy), Edward Dale Hall (Robin), and Nancy Ellen Borgschulte (John); 15 grandchildren; 12 Great-grandchildren, and Nephew; Johnny Lacey (Pat).Charlie was a lifelong resident of St. Mary's County, MD.
He had a heart of gold, if you shook his hand you were his friend for life but nothing was more important to him than his Family.
He was a brick mason/foreman that worked for several local businesses, including Pierce & Gibson, Willie Stone, Porky Nelson, Millison Enterprises, Swarey Builders, and Lacey Construction. Charlie could be found most days riding his gator through the streets of Leonardtown, working in the yard, or at any political event in town. Dover Downs Casino was a favorite getaway when he wasn't watching baseball or NASCAR. He enjoyed a good card game, family cookouts, crabbing, and fishing. He won the Maryland State Oyster Shucking Competition at the St. Mary's County Fairgrounds. But, everyone knew Charlie best for the stories he told. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 23, 2014 at 10:00AM in St. Aloysius Catholic Church with Father David Beaubien officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 22, 2014 from 2:00PM to 5:00PM with prayers recited at 3:00PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. Pallbearers will be: Tommy McKay, Robert Hodges, Richard Fritz, Ricky Lacey, Frankie Johnson, Jimmy McWilliams, and Freddie Clarke.
Mary Ellen Mills, 92

Mary Ellen Mills passed away on June 18, 2014. She was born on June 20, 1921 in New York State to Ben and Emma Jurgens. The youngest of five sisters, she was the last surviving sibling. She attended Indiana State Teachers College in Pennsylvania where she received her teaching degree. She taught in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland.
Mary wed Ralph Mills in 1952 and had two sons. After retiring she became an award winning artist and was active in the local art community.
Mary is survived by her husband as well as her sons Martin Ralph Mills and Keith Thomas Mills and their wives; three grandchildren, Thomas Orin Mills, Jessica Lynne Mills and Sabrina Beryl Mills.

Michelle Ann Long, 43, of Hollywood, MD, passed away on June 15, 2014 in Callaway, MD. Born January 22, 1971 in Leonardtown, MD, she was the daughter of Carol Ann Bain of Abell, MD, and William Douglas Wathen, Jr. of Leonardtown, MD. Michelle is survived by her husband, Scott Anthony Long whom she married on December 31, 2007 in Leonardtown, MD, children; Camille Neva Alvey, Halei Olivia Long, and Jocelyn Ann Long all of Hollywood, MD, Beverly Buckler of Leonardtown, MD and Ronald Alvey of Callaway, MD., brother Shawn Richard (Angela) Wathen of Colton's Point, MD.
Michelle was a lifelong resident of St. Mary's County, MD; she graduated from Leonardtown High School in 1988, and earned her Bachelor's degree in 2010 from UMUC, she was a QA Manager for Smartronix. Everyone who knew Michelle knows that she had a heart of gold. You were her friend from the moment you met her. With her caring and generous heart she was always thinking of others. Her loves of life were her beautiful daughters and loving husband. Having her in your life was a blessing and a joy and you knew you had a friend for life. Michelle gave her whole heart in whatever she did. She was so loving, caring generous, funny and witty, but most of all, Michelle was a beautiful woman inside and out. Throughout the last couple of years her humor and perspective of what she was going through was amazing. Her positive outlook with so much love and generosity that was given to her and her family and she knew that she is loved deeply.

Robert Wayne "Bob" Raines, 49

Robert Wayne "Bob" Raines, 49, of Mechanicsville, MD, passed away on June 15, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born on September 23, 1964, in Miami, FL, he was the son of the late Al Raines and Estelle Howell Rogers of Jonesboro, GA.
On April 1, 1985, Bob proudly joined the United States Marine Corp, and served his country until his honorable discharge in August 1996 as a Sergeant. He continued his service another three years in the National Guard Reserves. He was currently employed by the Department of Defense at Patuxent River Naval Air Station as PMA-209 International Programs Communications Engineer. On October 29, 1988, he married his beloved wife, Evelyn Joy Raines. Together they celebrated over 25 wonderful years together. Bob traveled extensively with the U.S. Marines and in his current position with the government. He has been across the United States and to 19 countries. He enjoyed traveling, with his favorite location being in Norway. He has made many friends throughout the world. His greatest love was for his family, and he enjoyed spending his time with them. He was an active member of Living Hope United Pentecostal Church, in which he was in charge of the Visual Department.
In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his sons, Brandon Avery Raines and Daniel John Raines, both of Mechanicsville, MD; his sister, Linda Rowen (Johnny) of Jonesboro, GA; his brother, Richard Raines (Robbin) of Hollywood, FL; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and co-workers. In addition to his father, Al Raines, he is also preceded in death by his step-father, Doug Rogers.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Living Hope First United Pentecostal Church, 46694 Midway Drive, Lexington Park, MD 20653. Interment will be private.

Jerry Dan George, Sr., 78, of Lexington Park, MD, passed away on February 6, 2014 in Callaway, MD. Born on December 12, 1935 in Steel, MO, he was the loving son of the late Thomas and Viola Williams George. Jerry was the loving husband of the late Betty Jo George who he married on January 18, 1958, and who preceded him in death on June 3, 2010. Jerry is survived by his children; Jerry Dan George, Jr. (Debbie), Roxanne Marie George both of Lexington Park, MD, Michael D. George of St. Augustine, Fl, Lisa Kavaky (David) of Dover, DE, 8 grandchildren; Michael Patrick Ryan, Michael David George, Jr. Nicole Elizabeth-Susanne George, Thomas Daniel George, Kenton Kavacky, Ashley Kavacky, and Ryan Katz, and 4 great-grandchildren; Eric Stuart Risbon, Lucille Elizabeth George, Alyssa George, and Baby Tennyson. He was preceded in death by his grandchild, Elizabeth Ann George. Jerry graduated from Campbell High School, CA in 1953 and went on to serve in the United Stated Navy May 6, 1965 to January 7, 1971, while serving in the Navy he earned the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal (Fourth Award), he retired from the United States Navy in 1977. He worked at the United States Naval Air Station Patuxent River, MD as a Test Pilot School Instructor, retiring in 2011. Jerry moved to St. Mary's County, MD in 1978 and worked as an Air Craft Mechanic for the United Stated Navy. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 20, 2014 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD. Mary Elizabeth Trossbach, 72, of Bushwood, MD, passed away February 5, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family.
Born March 31, 1941 in Leonardtown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Charles Nicholas Dornall and Mary Madeline (Abell) Dornall.
Mary is survived by her husband of 54 years, Robert Bennett Trossbach, Sr.; children, Barbara Currie (Ray) of Bushwood, Bobby Trossbach of Avenue, Betty Ryce (Jimmy) of Bushwood and Ronnie Trossbach (Becky) of Bushwood; eight grandchildren, Ray Currie, Debbie Cusick (John), Robin Currie, Teresa Ryce (Johnny), Jenn Russell (Lee), Tina Jones (Brian), JD Ryce, and Josh Trossbach (Lorrie); and 9 great-grandchildren. Mary is also survived by her siblings, Bebe Flora of Mechanicsville, Charlotte Wathen of Mechanicsville, Louise Sturm of Millersville, and Charlie Dornall of Millersville. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Krissy Ryce, great-grandson Johnny Ryce, III, and sister Margaret Hill.
Mary spent her career working as a clerk and seamstress at Town Cleaners. She also tutored adults in reading, and made children's clothes at a sewing factory. In her spare time, she volunteered at her church and spent time crocheting and making special gifts for family and friends. Her pride and joy was her family and visits from the great-grandbabies, "her babies". She also enjoyed reading, working on the family farm, and was very involved in church and prayer.
Mary was a very selfless and loving woman whose life revolved around her family. Her needs were simple and her happiness lied in the happiness of those she loved. She was very independent and she took care of her loved ones. Mary was adamant that her loved ones did not need to take care of her. She was gracious and forgiving and was looked up to by many. Always welcoming, she was loved by all that met her.
Family will receive friends for Mary's Life Celebration on Friday, February 7, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. Prayers will be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Charles Cortinovis on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 23080 Maddox Road, Bushwood, MD 20618. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ray Currie, Jr., J.D. Ryce, Josh Trossbach, Brian Jones, Junior Lathroum and George Beall.

James Walter Neal, 73

James Walter Neal, 73, of Hollywood, Maryland, peacefully departed this life on February 5, 2014, at home surrounded by his family. He was born on May 29, 1940 to the late Frank P. Neal and Mary Estelle Neal in Leonardtown, Maryland. "Walt" is survived by his wife, Ella, whom he married 50 years ago in the District of Columbia. Their union produced two children, Joyce Neal of Chaptico, and Jay Neal (Caroline) of Owings, Maryland, and five grandchildren (Sydney, Rian, Mekhi, Grant, and Jada). He was preceded in death by his brother, John Neal, and leaves two siblings Alice Showell and George Neal with a lifetime of memories to cherish. Walt graduated from Banneker in 1959 and attended Morgan State College. He served his country for 3 years in the Army from 1961-1964. While in the Army, he was a member of the Ballistic Research Team that was charged with investigating John F. Kennedy's assassination. Walt was a lifelong resident of St. Mary's County, and dedicated himself to serving the community. In the mid 1960's, he became one of the first African-Americans to become a member of the volunteer rescue squad. He continued to serve in that role until his illness. He was an employee of St. Mary's Hospital for some 47 years where he was known not only for his meticulous work and attention to detail, but for his easy going smile and soft spoken manner. He held many appointments to various boards and commissions over the many years, which included the St. Mary's Hospital Board of Directors, the Building Committee for the Carter Building, the Extension Service Advisory Board, the St. Mary's Hospital Renovation Committee, the St. Mary's County Board of Social Services, the Fair Board, and the Agricultural Land Preservation Committee. He participated in numerous Christmas in April projects. Many neighbors benefited from his generous spirit when he would push snow and clear driveways refusing to accept any type of payment. He took pride in his garden and shared the fruits of his labor with friends and family alike. He was constantly improving and perfecting his wine making skills. When not working, he avidly pursued other hobbies. He grew up farming and love of the land never left him. A local historian in his own way and an avid photographer, Walt collected a series of his own photographs from the 1970's to make a slide show collection documenting tobacco growing in Southern Maryland. Joining the Southern Maryland Antique Power Association gave him an outlet to express his enjoyment of old tractors with like other minded enthusiasts and allowed him the ability to greatly expand his tractor collection. He was the founder of the tractor parade in Leonardtown, MD. His happiest times were spent with his five grandchildren. He relished any opportunity to spend time with them. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 10, 2014 from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM followed by Rescue Squad prayers at 7:15 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM in St. Aloysius Catholic Church Leonardtown, MD with Father David Beaubien officiating, con celebrating Father Rory Conley. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens Leonardtown, MD. Pallbearers: Jay Neal, John Neal, Paul White, Treavor Rose, John Thompson, and Henry Johnson.
