Edward C. Gloyd
GREAT CACAPON, W.Va. - Edward Clifton Gloyd, 65, of Great Cacapon, W.Va., and formerly of Frederick, Md., died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 1997, at his home while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born July 9, 1931, in Great Cacapon, he was the son of the late George Washington Edward Clifton and Mildred Mae Youngblood Gloyd.
He attended Great Cacapon public schools.
During the 1960s, he was a manager with Culligan Soft Water Co. in Frederick. He was a truck driver with Mitchell Transport from 1972 to 1980 and with Fleet Transport from 1980 to 1983. He and his wife owned and operated a catering business and restaurant, Gloyd's of Frederick, from 1975 to 1986. He retired in 1990.
He was of the Protestant Faith.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 371 in Frederick; Teamster's Local 639, Washington, D.C.; Hagerstown Motor Carriers and Teamsters Local, Hagerstown; and AARP.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, June Ellen Young Gloyd; one daughter, Debra E. Geisinger of Frederick; two sons, LeRoy C. Gloyd, Thurmont, Md., and Daryl D. Gloyd of Frederick; one brother, Howard W. Gloyd of Shank, W.Va.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and one niece.
Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs, W.Va. The Rev. Malcolm L. Cadd will officiate. Burial will be in Great Cacapon Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The funeral home will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday for the convenience of friends.
Clayborne M. Humphries
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Clayborne Mason Humphries, 77, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 1997, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.
Born Sept. 13, 1919, in Norfolk, Va., he was the son of the late William Clayborne and Camilla Mason Humphries.
He was a mechanic and an electrician.
A veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, he served during World War II.
He attended the First Christian Church in Norfolk, Va.
He is survived by one sister, Ann Humphries Day of Vienna, Va.; one nephew; and two great-nephews.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Culpeper National Cemetery, Culpeper, Va.
Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg.
Pauline M. Gabriel
Pauline M. Gabriel, 74, formerly of 10917 Clinton Ave., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1997, at Colton Villa Nursing Home.
Born May 9, 1922, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Phillip Keller and Sofia Cowgill Barlup.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvie Franklin Gabriel, in 1979.
She was a member of St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school.
She was a member of the Women's Post Office Auxiliary.
She is survived by one daughter, Cheryl Seacrist of Hagerstown; one son, Jeffrey Lynn Gabriel of Logan, Utah; one brother, Merle G. Barlup of Smithsburg; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Susan H. Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Mary O. Starry
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Mary O. Starry, 88, of Berkeley Springs and formerly of Latrobe, Pa., died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1997, at Valley View Nursing Home in Berkeley Springs.
Born March 24, 1908, in Latrobe, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John and Tillie Blozowski.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George C. Starry.
She retired as a Bell Telephone operator in 1970.
She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Latrobe, Pa., and the church's Ladies Sodality.
She was a member of American Legion Unit 0515 in Latrobe.
She is survived by one daughter, Patricia A. Gainor of Berkeley Springs; two sisters, Anna Andershovis and Violet Evans, both of Frackville, Pa.; two grandchildren; one niece; and two nephews.
Services will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Latrobe, Pa. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Latrobe.
The family will receive friends Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Lopatich Funeral Home, Latrobe, Pa.

Mary A. Crabtree Bonar
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Mary Ann Crabtree Bonar, 51, of 1853 Johnson Road, Chambersburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 1997, at Keystone Health Center in Chambersburg.
Born March 11, 1945, in Elizabeth, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Dr. Loren H. and Dorothy M. Lowry Crabtree.
She was a 1963 graduate of Batten High School in Elizabeth, N.J., a 1988 graduate of the University of Miami, Miami, Fla; and attended graduate school at the University of Maryland in Baltimore.
A registered nurse, she worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Health in Chambersburg. She worked at Knapp Haven Nursing home, in Chetek, Wis., and Barron County Public Health Center in Barron, Wis. Later, she was employed with her husband near Bruce, Wis.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, in Bruce, Wis.
She was a member of the American Association of University Women, Wisconsin Nurses Association, and American Nurses Association. She also was a member of Indian Head Sheep Breeders Association in Barron, Wis.
She is survived by her husband, Frank A. Bonar, whom she married Dec. 2, 1972; one daughter, Nancy L. Bonar of Chambersburg, Pa.; two sisters, Nancy M. Fonna of Elizabeth, N.J., and Rae Catherine Scarano of Middletown, N.Y.; one brother, Dr. Loren H. Crabtree Jr. of Chadds Ford, Pa.; one grandson; two nieces; and nine nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. Father Daniel F. Lawler, S.J., will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg.

Edgar W. Sawyer
Edgar Williams Sawyer Jr., 75, of Ravenwood Lutheran Nursing Home, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born July 22, 1921, in East Saugus, Mass., he was the son of the late Edgar W. and Josephine Talone Sawyer Sr.
He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania.
He served in the U.S Army during World War II.
He retired from U.S. Silica in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and earlier was employed with Englehard Minerals and Chemicals in Edison, N.J. After retirement he continued consultant work for many foreign companies, and was published in his field. He held many U.S. patents.
He received the Harold S. Geneen Award from ITT in 1984 for individual technical achievement.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hagerstown.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Sawyer; two daughters, Carol A. Sawyer of Hagerstown, and Dorothy J. Wisch of Jupiter, Fla.; one son, Edgar W. Sawyer III of Spotswood, N.J.; two sisters, Marie Davis of Upper Darby, Pa., and Katherine Daley of The Villas, N.J.; one brother, John Sawyer of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Keith Boisvert will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown.

Betty G. Ramsey
FREDERICK, Md. - Betty Gale Ramsey, 62, of 205 E. Eighth St., Frederick, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 1997, at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C.
Born June 25, 1934, in Oklahoma, she was the daughter of the late Lillie May Agee.
She was a member of the Frederick Church of Christ and the Way Station.
She is survived by two daughters, Wanda Cowart of Mobile, Ala., and Gale White of Cambridge, Md.; one son, Edward W. Ramsey Jr., of Frederick; one sister, Opal Camp of Dunlap, Tenn.; and one brother, D.C. Agee of Bell, Fla.
Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown, Md. The Rev. Maynard Booher will officiate. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery, Myersville, Md.

Roy C. Yeager
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Roy C. Yeager, 94, of 979 Boyer Mill Road, Chambersburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Dec. 26, 1902, in Guilford Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Edward and Annie Ernst Yeager.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ada May Shetter Yeager, on April 8, 1986.
He was a self-employed farmer in the Chambersburg area.
He was a member of Strasburg Mennonite Church in Chambersburg.
He is survived by one daughter, Verna Lehman of Harrisonburg, Va.; one son, Marlin S. Yeager of Chambersburg; one sister Martha Ebersole of Chambersburg; four brothers, Frank Yeager and Glenn Yeager, both of Chambersburg, Milton Yeager of Hagerstown, and Fred Yeager of St. Thomas, Pa.; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Chambersburg Mennonite Church, 1800 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. Ministers Nathan L. Wadel, Allen Fleagle, Lee Roy Yeager and Ellis Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Chambersburg Mennonite Cemetery in Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, and one hour prior to the service Saturday at Chambersburg Mennonite Church.
