Susan C. Bricker
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Susan C. Bricker, 83, a resident of ManorCare Health Services, and formerly of 13555 Main St., Fort Loudon, Pa., died Saturday, Jan. 25, 1997, at ManorCare.
Born Aug. 4, 1913, in Lemasters, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Edward E. and Mary Dale Mills.
She was formerly employed with Greencastle Packing Co. in Greencastle, Pa., Heisey's Orchards and Mercersburg Dress Factory, both in Mercersburg, Pa.
She was a member of Ebenezer United Brethren Church of Greencastle, and taught Bible school classes during summers at the church.
She is survived by her husband, Ray F. Bricker, whom she married Sept. 3, 1931, also a resident of ManorCare; two daughters, Dorothy L. Bard of Fort Loudon, Pa., and Gladys Musselman of Greencastle; one son, Ross E. Bricker of Greencastle; two sisters, Mary Carson and Betty Hess, both of Chambersburg; one brother, Charles I. Mills of Gaithersburg, Md.; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Harry Richard Bricker; and one grandson.
Services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg.
The Rev. Garry L. Culler and the Rev. Alvin E. Goetz will officiate.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Mercersburg.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Joyce F. Mountain
CASCADE - Joyce F. Mountain, 64, of Spring Dale Avenue, died Friday, Jan. 24, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 4, 1933, in Wolfsville, Md., she was the daughter of the late Harry F. and Naomi B. Bear Kline.
Her husband, Jimmie R. Mountain, died in 1993.
She was employed by the Civil Service Department of the U.S. Army at Fort Ritchie for 28 years, retiring in 1995.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Cascade American Legion Post 239.
She is survived by one daughter, Rhonda W. Lantz of Sabillasville, Md.; two sons, Douglas P. Mountain of Baltimore and Michael J. Mountain of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sisters, Wilma C. Willis and Helen M. Brunner, both of Wolfsville; one brother, Charles L. "Bud" Besore of Wolfsville; and two grandchildren.
Services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg.
The Rev. David Howell will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Mark's Lutheran Cemetery in Wolfsville.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Beatrice E. Weeks
Beatrice Elizabeth Weeks, 86, formerly of Oak Ridge Apartments, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 1997, at Colton Villa Nursing Center.
Born Nov. 24, 1910, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late George B. and Mary Hockensmith Alexander.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman D. Weeks Sr., in 1962.
She was a graduate of St. Mary's Parochial School.
She was the first woman to be appointed deputy clerk to the Washington County Commissioners.
She also was employed by the unemployment office, Community Rescue Service and was the first secretary of Dr. Howard N. Weeks from 1953 to 1955.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
She was an avid bridge player.
She is survived by one son, Herman David "Chip" Weeks Jr. of Newport Beach, Calif.; one stepdaughter, June Weeks House of Abington, Pa.; one stepson, Dr. Howard N. Weeks of Hagerstown; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
The Rev. Keith Boisvert will officiate.
Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Margaret V. Ponton
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Margaret V. Ponton, 89, formerly of Stonewall Haven in Martinsburg, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 1997, at Heartland of Martinsburg, where she was a resident.
Born Nov. 18, 1907, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Charles B. and Catherine Ramsburg Britt.
Her husband, George W. Ponton, died in 1963.
She retired from Interwoven.
She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church for more than 70 years.
She is survived by two daughters, Vivian Timberlake Hollis and Catherine F. Whitmore, both of Martinsburg; two sons, Charles W. Ponton and George W. Ponton Jr., both of Martinsburg; one sister, Catherine Skinner of Huntsville, Ala.; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Donald K. Ponton; four sisters, Ciola Lockwood, Helen Miller, Lillian Meil and Florence Egle; two brothers, Charles Britt and John Britt; and one grandson.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg.
The Rev. Al Clipp and the Rev. Paul C. Stanley will officiate.
Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery in Martinsburg.

Thelma L. Arnold
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Thelma L. Arnold, 87, a resident of ManorCare Health Services, and formerly of 14109 Buchanan Trail West, Mercersburg, Pa., died Friday, Jan. 24, 1997, at ManorCare.
Born April 18, 1909, in Welsh Run, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Albert E. and Emma Niswander Angle.
For a number of years, she was employed at J. Shoeneman Co. in Chambersburg.
She was a member of Ebenezer United Brethren Church in Greencastle, Pa.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Floyd E. Arnold, a resident of ManorCare; one daughter, Betty A. Bridendolph of Mercersburg, Pa.; two sisters, M. Elizabeth Yeager of State Line, Pa., and Adealine D. Wenger of St. Thomas, Pa.; three brothers, Lester E. Angle of Mercersburg, H. Elmo Angle of Waynesboro, Pa., and Glenn E. Angle of Chambersburg; one granddaughter; and two great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.
Services will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg. The Rev. Garry L. Culler will officiate.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Mercersburg.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

William J. Gillan
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - William J. "Bill" Gillan, 80, a resident of Franklin County Nursing Home, and formerly of 25 N. Potomac St., Trinity House, Waynesboro, Pa., died Sunday, Jan. 26, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Oct. 14, 1916, in St. Thomas, Pa., he was the son of the late Robert J. and Minta J. Jones Gillan.
He was a graduate of St. Thomas Township High School. He attended military school in Virginia, and graduated from Eckels College of Embalming and Sanitary Science, Philadelphia, in 1941.
In his early life, he worked on the family orchards in St. Thomas.
He then became a licensed funeral director in Pennsylvania and Maryland.
He owned and operated a funeral home on Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg, for a number of years.
Prior to retiring in 1978, he was employed by Robert E. Wilhelm Funeral Home in Suitland, Md.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II.
He was a member of Detrich-Brechbill American Legion Post 612, St. Thomas; George Washington Lodge 143, Free and Accepted Masons, Chambersburg; and a member of Harrisburg Consistory.
He is survived by two daughters, Julia "Judy" Gillan and Cheryl Bittner, both of Chambersburg; two sons, William S. Gillan and Terry A. Gillan, both of Chambersburg; one sister, Mabel G. Wible of Chambersburg; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Louise Gillan; two sisters, Margaret Wilson and Julia Schneider; and one brother, Robert Gillan.
Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Minnich-Miller-May Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle, Pa. The Rev. Rawley D. Boone will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery, St. Thomas.
Graveside military services will be conducted by St. Thomas American Legion Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service Wednesday, where Masonic memorial services will be conducted at 10 a.m.

Hursey E. Stewart
Hursey Earl Stewart, 53, of Baltimore, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 1997, at his home.
Born Sept. 30, 1943, in Charleston, W.Va., he was the son of Gladys Arbough Stewart of Baltimore, and the late Harry Earl Stewart.
He was employed by Bethlehem Steel at Sparrows Point.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by four sisters, Joyce Blivens of Drydon, Va., Tonda Bowers and Juanita Oleszczuk, both of Baltimore, and Naywsa Fitz of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one brother, Jeffery Wayne Stewart of Baltimore; and nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Rosedale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Jean E. Phillips
BEDFORD, N.H. - Jean E. Phillips, 78, of Bedford, and Naples, Fla., died Friday, Jan. 24, 1997, at her Naples home.
Born June 17, 1918, in Catonsville, Md., she was the daughter of the late Carl M. and Grace Neily Hofmann.
In 1962, she moved to Bedford from Hagerstown.
From 1951 until her retirement in 1987, she was employed as the office manager for United Cable Co.
She was a charter member of Elliot Hospital Associates in Manchester, N.H.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Samuel E. Phillips Jr.; one daughter, Lynn Dee Carey of Hooksett, N.H.; one son, Samuel E. Phillips III of Bedford; three sisters, Ann Wilde of Seahurst, Wash., Marian Taylor of Orchard Park, N.Y., and Nancy Day of Hartland, Vt.; one brother, David Hofmann of Huntington, Long Island, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
No services are planned.
