Evelyn R. Johnston
Evelyn R. Johnston, 89, of 1183 Luther Drive, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1997, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village.
Born at Long Meadow, Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Frank L. and Indianola Itneyer Johnston.
She was employed by Hagerstown Shoe Co. for 49 years, retiring in 1976.
She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church for 76 years, and the Grace and Grit Sunday School Class.
She also was a member of Queen Esther Chapter 3 Order of the Eastern Star, a charter member of Hager Chapter Professional Secretaries International and AARP.
She is survived by one brother, Howard F. Johnston of Hagerstown; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Charlotte V. Johnston; and two brothers, Leslie C. Johnston and Maurice S. Johnston.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown.
The Rev. Stephen D. Robison will officiate.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Mildred G. Grayson
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Mildred G. Grayson, 81, of 710 Bowman Road, and formerly of 1041 S. Main St., Chambersburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born July 10, 1915, in Middletown, Md., she was the daughter of the late William A. and Nannie M. Wiles Bussard.
Her husband, Horace M. Grayson, died in 1992.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown.
She also was a member of Falling Spring Court 139 Order of Amaranth in Chambersburg, and Ladies Auxiliary of B.P.O. Elks Lodge 600 in Chambersburg.
She is survived by one son, David M. Grayson of Chambersburg; two brothers, William A. Bussard of Frederick, Md., and George C. Bussard of Hagerstown; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Lincoln Cemetery in Chambersburg.
The Rev. Donald L. Turley will officiate.
Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery in Chambersburg.
There will be no viewing.
The family requests the omission of flowers.

Harold A. Alexander
Harold A. "Alex" Alexander, 81, of 249 E. Howard St., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Nov. 8, 1915, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Amos Harold and Mamie Irene Baker Alexander.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Lillian R. Alexander, in 1979.
He was employed by Fairchild for 40 years, retiring in 1980.
He was owner and operator of Alexander's Market, Hagerstown.
He also owned race horses at Charles Town Races.
He was a lifetime member of First Christian Church.
He was a member of Eagle's Club in Hagerstown, Horsemen Breeders Association of West Virginia, Hagerstown Beagle Club, and Funkstown Rod and Gun Club.
He was an American Little League manager for 10 years.
He is survived by one son, Harold A. Alexander of Hagerstown; four sisters, Ann Kent of Ranson, W.Va., Thelma Troupe of Fairplay, Teresa Tasker of Cumberland, Md., and Faye Hayes of Hagerstown; one granddaughter; one grandson; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
The Rev. Fred M. Harris will officiate.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Edward L. Summers Sr.
MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Edward L. Summers Sr., 63, of Franklin Street, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1997, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Dec. 19, 1933, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Charles Earl and Millie Summers.
He was the stepson of Mary Summers of Hagerstown.
He retired from United Block Co. in Frederick, Md., in 1990.
In addition to his stepmother, he is survived by his wife, Julia Summers; one daughter, Diane Rowe of Frederick; one son, Edward L. Summers Jr. of Middletown; two sisters, Gladys Stoup of Hagerstown and Eileen Mose of Greencastle, Pa.; two brothers, Carroll Summers of West Port, Conn., and Alfred Summers of Hagerstown; and five grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Ricketts Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Myersville, Md.
Capt. Butch Mallard will officiate.
Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown.

Luther J. Coulter
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Luther James "Coke" Coulter, 83, of Shiloh, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1997, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.
Born Jan. 7, 1914, in Harpers Ferry, W.Va., he was the son of the late Luther Coulter and Nellie M. Rader Coulter Daugherty.
He was a graduate of Harpers Ferry High School, where he lettered in football, basketball and baseball.
He retired from Frye Quarries in Clearbrook, Va., and previously worked for Standard Limestone Co. in Millville, W.Va., for 43 years.
A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy's Seabees in the South Pacific.
He was of the Episcopal faith.
He was a member and past commander and served as sergeant of arms at Jackson-Perks American Legion Post 71 in Charles Town; a member of 40 and 8, VFW Post 3522, and Loyal Order of Moose 948, all in Charles Town.
He helped to start Junior Legion Baseball and coached Little League Baseball in Charles Town.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen R. Roper Coulter; one daughter, Patricia Milburn of Boyce, Va.; two sons, Luther James "Jimmy" Coulter Jr. of Charles Town, and Jack R. Coulter of Aiken, S.C.; three sisters, Mary Catherine Ayres of Brunswick, Md., Betty Moore of Knoxville, and Helen Kemp of Ranson; two brothers, W.W. Daugherty Jr. and Ronnie Daugherty, both of Knoxville; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mae C. Shipe; and three brothers, Fred Coulter, Edward "Bubba" Daugherty and Herbert Daugherty.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town.

Lucille L. Forney
MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Lucille L. Forney, 82, of 200 Faust St., Brindle Terrace, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1997, at ManorCare Health Services, Chambersburg, Pa.
Born March 23, 1914, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Samuel G. and Bessie V. Ritter Forney.
She had been employed for 33 years by Woodward & Lothrop Department Stores in Washington, D.C., and later in Falls Church, Va.
She moved to Mercersburg following her retirement in 1974.
She was a former member of Northern Methodist Church, Winchester, Va.
She was a member of AARP.
She is survived by one sister, Elizabeth V. Cutchall of Mercersburg; three nieces and three nephews.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg.
The Rev. Michael K. Miller will officiate.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday one hour prior to the service.
William G. Lewis
McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - William G. Lewis, 73, of R.D. 2, Box 10, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital in Chambersburg, Pa.
Born July 23, 1923, in Ebensburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Robert and Mary Rice Lewis.
He was a mason working in construction.
A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of Chambersburg Open Door Church.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Bain Lewis, whom he married May 7, 1949; one daughter, Alma Bivens of Big Cove Tannery, Pa.; one son, Marvin Lewis of McConnellsburg; one brother, Robert Lewis of Monongahela, Pa.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg.
The Rev. Keith Skelton will officiate.
Burial will be in Union Cemetery, with graveside military services conducted by the Fulton Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m., and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
