Gladys E. Brown
Gladys Elizabeth Brown, 94, formerly of 713 Sunset Ave., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1997, at Williamsport Nursing Home.
Born in Millstone, Md., she was the daughter of the late Joseph V. and Bessie Younker Fritz.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick J. Brown, in 1961.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hagerstown.
She is survived by one brother, Merle V. Fritz of Mercersburg, Pa.; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, M. Cordiss Brown.
Services will be Saturday at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. George Limmer will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
Ida M.S. Donivan
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Ida M. Stewart Donivan, 64, of Route 2, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1997, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.
Born Oct. 5, 1932, in Brooklyn, Md., she was the daughter of the late Franklin S. and Emily M. Bailey Stewart.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Calvary Chapel Church.
She is survived by her husband, Floyd J. Donivan Sr.; five daughters, Veronica VanMetre, Monica Rudy and Lori Files, all of Martinsburg, and Sharon Stewart and Gail Meyers, both of Baltimore; three sons, Floyd J. Donivan Jr., David Donivan and Russell Donivan, all of Martinsburg; three sisters, Marie Glock of Radcliff, Ky., Clara Stock of New Oxford, Pa., and Dorothy Rafferty of Baltimore; one brother, Warren Stewart of Glen Burnie, Md.; and 12 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, William Donivan; and one granddaughter.
Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. Marcus Caton will officiate. Burial will be in Falling Waters Presbyterian Cemetery in Spring Mills.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Mary A. Corder
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Mary Ann Corder, 65, of Heartland of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1997, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born March 29, 1931, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Helen Kesner Hite.
Her husband, Gerald Corder, died in 1996.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Marvin Chapel United Methodist Church in Berkeley County.
She is survived by one daughter, Patti Barnes of Craigsville, Va.; three brothers, Robert Hite of Martinsburg, Donald Hite of Inwood, W.Va., and Kenneth Hite of Reading, Pa.; two sisters, Jean McBee of Baltimore, and Elizabeth Wall of Martinsburg; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Douglas Corder; and one brother, Harold Hite.
Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel in Martinsburg. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery in Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
John W. Wills
THURMONT, Md. - John W. Wills, 57, of Thurmont, and formerly of Emmitsburg, Md., died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1997, at Gettysburg Hospital in Gettysburg, Pa.
Born July 25, 1939, in Emmitsburg, he was the son of the late Carroll and Helen Cool Wills.
He had employed as the chief chef for Mount Saint Mary's College and Seminary for more than 15 years, and later was employed for Mountain Gate Family Restaurant in Thurmont, and Mountain Manor Home in Emmitsburg.
A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he served in the Korean War.
He was a former member of the American Legion in Thurmont.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Ridenour Wills; two daughters, Bernadette Carpenter of Hagerstown, and Diane Shockey of Thurmont; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three aunts.
The family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont, on Friday from 10 a.m. to noon, at which time the service will begin. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery in Thurmont.
Hattie V. Poffinberger
FREDERICK, Md. - Hattie Virginia Poffinberger, 86, of 4604 Mockingbird Lane, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 1997, at her home.
Born March 26, 1910, in Zittlestown, she was the daughter of the late Alvey C. and Orpha E. Kline Zittle.
Her husband, Charles Albert Poffinberger, died in 1982.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Jefferson, Md.
She is survived by one daughter, Kathleen E. Schroyer of Jefferson; one son, C. William Poffinberger of Myersville; three sisters, Naomi C. Gigeous of Boonsboro, Alice M. Parsons of Rockville, Md., and Iona O. Poffenberger of Boonsboro; two grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; one great-grandson; and one stepgreat-grandson.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister, George W. Zittle, Hermia McKnight and Alvey N. Zittle.
Services will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown. The Rev. Bruce Barth and the Rev. David Howell will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Jefferson.

Henry S. Lewis
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Henry S. Lewis, 60, of Waynesboro, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born July 15, 1936, near Thurmont, Md., he was the son of Geneva E. Coyle of Pen Mar, Pa.
He was a high school graduate.
He was employed as a machinist by Rotorex in Walkersville, Md.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by one daughter, Shari M. Carpenter of Wheaton, Md.; three sisters, Shannon White of Westminster, Md., Pamela Coyle of South Charleston, W.Va., and Daryl G. Bakner of Waynesboro; four brothers, And're Coyle of Ruckersville, Va., Kim Coyle and Thane Coyle, both of Waynesboro, and Shawn Coyle, stationed at an Air Force base in Italy; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Debrah Coyle; and one brother, Barry Coyle.
Memorial services will be held Monday at 4 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Lester Allen White, elder, will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing; however the family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Monday.

Blanche V. Hayes
BRUNSWICK, Md. - Blanche Virginia Hayes, 74, of 1100 Peach Orchard Lane, Brunswick, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.
Born Aug. 3, 1922, in Middletown, Md., she was the daughter of the late Willie and Grace Knadler Thomas.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Everitt C. Hoffman; and by her second husband, John W. Hayes.
She was of the Protestant faith.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Merriman of Brunswick, and Patsy Smith of Jefferson, Md.; one sister, Ruth Powell of Hagerstown; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Mills; and six brothers, Dale Thomas, Charles Thomas, Ralph Thomas, Austin Thomas, Ernest Thomas and Maynard Thomas.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick. The Rev. James E. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Locust Valley Bible Church Cemetery near Middletown.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

J. Robert Meyers Sr.
ST. THOMAS, Pa. - J. Robert Meyers Sr., 84, of 8180 Lincoln Way East, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital in Chambersburg, Pa.
Born Sept. 4, 1912, in Lemasters, Pa., he was the son of the late Elam H. and Laura Myers Meyers.
His first wife, Mary Louise Royer Meyers, died in 1963.
An auctioneer and appraiser for 62 years, he specialized in estate and antique public sales. He was former owner of McLaughlin's Auction of St. Thomas, and later conducted sales at Lemasters Community Center.
He was a dairy farmer until 1978. Early in life, he operated trucks hauling milk from local farms to creameries. He also hauled fruit for local orchards.
He was often referred to as "Mr. Lion of Franklin County." He was a charter member and past president of Mount Parnell Lions Club; district governor of Lions 14-C in 1960-61; and was serving as past district governor of 14-T, at the time of his death. In 1993, he received the Melvin Jones Award, the highest honor given by Lions International.
He served as a member of the board of directors of Tuscarora School District from 1967 to 1991. He was a member of Franklin County Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service for many years and was chairman for 10 years.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Walterick Meyers, whom he married June 15, 1964; four daughters, Barbara Mathers and Jean Koontz, both of St. Thomas, Linda K. Dice and Julie L. Barnhart, both of Chambersburg; three sons, J. Robert Meyers Jr. and Elam "Ed" Meyers, both of St. Thomas, and Shawn D. Meyers of Chambersburg; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Nora Garber.
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family, followed by burial in St. Thomas Cemetery.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at James Buchanan Middle School Auditorium.
There will be no viewing or visitation.
