Willard F. Smith
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Willard Francis Smith, 47, of Berkeley Springs, and formerly of Pasadena, Md., died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1997, at his home.
Born Aug. 19, 1949, in Pasadena, he was the son of the late Sydney Albert Sr. and Lydia Willard Hohrein Smith.
He attended Anne Arundel Community College.
He was a self-employed automobile mechanic in the Baltimore metropolitan area before moving to Berkeley Springs in 1996.
He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era.
He was of the Catholic faith.
He is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Jean Sodoti and Willa Francine Smith, both of Virginia; six sisters, Lydia M. Gray, Harriett L. Lam and Betty J. Taylor, all of Roxboro, N.C., Margaret A. Guyton of Brooklyn, Md., Mary E. Ireland of Baltimore, and Kathleen P. Davidson of Pasadena; nine brothers, Sydney A. Smith Jr. and James F. Smith Sr., both of Glen Burnie, Md., William B. Smith Sr., Jerome E. Smith, Donald L. Smith and Larry G. Smith, all of Pasadena, Robert L. Smith Sr. of Berkeley Springs, John R. Smith Sr. of Roxboro, and Carl T. Smith Sr. of Virginia; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Ida May Smith; and one brother, Charles J. Smith.
Services will be held Friday at noon at McCully Funeral Home, 3204 Mountain Road, Pasadena. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Baltimore.

James N. Payne
BUNKER HILL, W.Va. - James "Henry" Nathanial Payne, 73, of Bunker Hill, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 1997, at his home.
Born Aug. 28, 1923, in Ashburn, Va., he was the son of the late Inmon and Goldie Stickles Payne.
He owned a dry wall business and retired from Braddock Supply Co. in Chantilly, Va.
He was a member of Church of the Brethren in Bunker Hill.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Everne Payne; one daughter, Joyce D. Lucas of Bunker Hill; one son, Steven R. Payne of Winchester; two sisters, Harriet Little of Port Richey, Fla., and Mary Jane Snoddy of West Palm Beach, Fla.; two brothers, J.M. Payne of Luray, Va., and H.D. Payne of Vienna, Va.; four grandsons; four granddaughters; two stepgranddaughters; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Elsie Flowers; and three brothers, Broadus Payne, Franklin Payne and Robert Payne.
Services will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel in Martinsburg. The Rev. Raymond R. Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.

John H. Dean
WILLIAMSPORT - John Horine Dean, 56, of 16602 Tammany Lane, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1997, at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore.
Born in Cumberland, Md., on Aug. 22, 1940, he was the son of the late James Hamner and Malinda Louise Horine Dean.
He was a 1958 graduate of Fort Hill High School in Cumberland. He received a B.E.S. in Civil Engineering at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore in 1963, and an M.E.A. in Business Administration from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., in 1972.
He was employed with Pepco Electric Co. in Washington, D.C., for 15 years; owned and operated Welcome Inn Family Restaurant in Greencastle, Pa.; and for the past five years was employed with the Internal Revenue Service in Martinsburg, W.Va.
A veteran of the Vietnam era, he served in the U.S. Air Force in Korea.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Williamsport.
He is survived by his wife, Kim I. Dean; three daughters, Susan G. Jack of Souderton, Pa., and Nancy M. Dean and Brittney L. Dean, both at home.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Williamsport. The Rev. W. Gregory Martin, and Ruth Rinker, vicar, will officiate.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, Md.
The family will receive friends at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. For the convenience of family and friends the funeral home will open at 9 a.m. on Sunday.

John C. Moore
DALLAS - John C. "Buck" Moore, 77, of Dallas and formerly of Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1997, at his home.
Born Oct. 1, 1919, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late John G. and Alma McCarter Moore.
He retired from the federal government, and previously was employed by J.W. Myers Co. and Fairchild Industries of Hagerstown.
A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army engineering corps in Panama.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys A. Moore of Dallas; two daughters, Linda L. Flaherty of Hagerstown and Patty A. Moore of Dallas; one son, John T. Moore of Hagerstown; five granddaughters; one grandson; seven great-grandsons; and three great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Phyllis M. Moore and Helen T. Moore.
He donated his remains to medical science.
The family will hold a private memorial service.
Beulah T. Swisher
INWOOD, W.Va. - Beulah T. "Boots" Swisher, 87, of Inwood, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 1997, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born Sept. 14, 1909, in Capon Bridge, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late A.D. and Elizabeth Oates McKee.
Her husband, Harry Swisher, died in 1966.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Bunker Hill United Methodist Church, and the Women's Society Group.
She also was a member of the Senior Citizens Exercise Group.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Linton of Inwood; three grandchildren, Michael Linton of Martinsburg, Edward Linton of Glengary, W.Va., and Brian Linton of Inwood; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Dora Lockhart, Nellie Kackley, Hattie Moreland and Mamie McKee; and two brothers, Harry McKee and Paul McKee.
Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel in Martinsburg. The Rev. Elsie McKenney will officiate, with the Rev. Charles L. Frum assisting. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

James E. Armbrester
BUNKER HILL, W.Va. - James E. "Buck" Armbrester, 79, of Route 1, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1997, at his home.
Born June 28, 1917, in Shanghai, W.Va., he was the son of the late Arch and Florence V. Parkinson Armbrester.
He retired from Martin Marrietta after 37 years.
He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Inwood, W.Va., and the Keenagers of the church.
He is survived by his wife, Fern Abrell Armbrester; one sister, Gladys Miller of Bunker Hill; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Virgie Minnick, Cora Stillwell, Pauline Masters and Pearl Armbrester; and four brothers, Raymond Armbrester, Guy Armbrester, Arthur "Bill" Armbrester and Kenneth A. Armbrester.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. Devin B. Ward and the Rev. Tim Butler will officiate. Burial will be in Central Chapel Cemetery in Ganotown, W.Va.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Eleanor Rauh
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Eleanor "El" Rauh, 79, of Tuscawilla Hills, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1997, at her home.
Born Sept. 4, 1917, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late John Seltzer and Mollie Charleston Seltzer Fox.
She was a homemaker.
She was of the Jewish faith.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Henry A. Rauh; two daughters, Jacklin Smith of Charlotte, N.C., and Iona Fasser of Missouri, Texas; one son, Thomas R. Rauh of Palm Bay, Fla.; one brother, Herbert Seltzer of Plantation, Fla.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia Rauh.
A service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town. Rabbi Howard Folb will officiate.
A second service will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Richard E. Neal will officiate.
Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town.
Friends will be received at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Richard A. Munson
Richard A. "Dick" Munson, 78, of 1306 Potomac Ave., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 8, 1918, he was the son of the late Ernest F. and Cora V. Saum Munson.
He retired in 1982 from G.E. Murray Distributor Co. He was previously employed by Lohr Produce Co.
A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Marine Corps in the South Pacific.
He was a member of Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Winifred L. Presgraves Munson; two daughters, Virginia L. Murray and Shirley A. DeVore, both of Hagerstown; one son, William E. Munson of Hagerstown; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, M. Doris Kunkle; and two brothers, Robert Munson and Roger Munson.
Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Stephen D. Robison will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
