Bonnie A.M. Smith

CUMBERLAND, Md. - Bonnie Arbogast Mills Smith, 71, of Myrtle Street, died of cancer Monday, Dec. 16, 1996, at Memorial Hospital in Cumberland.

Born on Dec. 11, 1925, in Cherry Grove, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Don and Icie Teter Arbogast.

She retired from Kelly Springfield Tire Co.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Cumberland.

She also was a member of Cedarettes and Meckinley Chapter No. 12 Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by one daughter, Rose Ann Squillari of Cumberland; one son, David Mills of Cumberland; six brothers, Delbert Arbogast of Beverly, W.Va., Dreamis and Earl Arbogast, both of Cherry Grove, Coy and Carl Arbogast, both of Alliance, Ohio, and Guy Arbogast of Elkins, W.Va.; three sisters, Cynthia Hackett of Hagerstown, Rosa Lee Campbell and Betty Jean Pennington, both of Elkins; three grandsons; two great-granddaughters; nieces and nephews; and a companion, Fred Rice, of Cumberland.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Hoy Arbogast; and one sister, Elva Arbogast.

Services were held Dec. 18, 1996, at Merritt-Adams Funeral Home in Cumberland. The Rev. Robert L. Nair officiated. Burial was in Frostburg Memorial Park.

Russell O. Hennesy

Russell Omer Hennesy, 85, of 125 Belview Ave., Hagerstown, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 1997, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home.

Born July 30, 1911, in Tilghmanton, he was the son of the late Joseph Omer and Lottie Ruth Daugherty Hennesy.

He was employed at Millers Furniture Store for 10 years, and retired from Highway Furniture Store in Hagerstown.

He was a member of First Baptist Church.

He also was a member of AARP.

He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Smith Hennesy; one daughter, Susan E. Schildt of Washington, Ill.; one son, Thomas R. Hennesy of Hagerstown; five sisters, Mary E. Printz of Lappans, Margaret A. Stevens and Katherine Stotler, both of Tilghmanton, Virginia R. Myers of Westminster, Md., and Charlotte I. Barkdoll of Orlando, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one grandson.

Services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Wendell Gross will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church, 15 High St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Ruth G. Frank

Ruth Grosh Frank, 95, of 11 S. Walnut St., Hagerstown, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 1997, at Williamsport Nursing Home in Williamsport.

Born April 2, 1901, in Clear Spring, she was the daughter of the late Courtney and Louise Dennis Grosh.

Her husband, Joseph C. Frank, died in 1956.

She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sisters, Catherine Palmer of Boonsboro, and Blanche Buharp of Niceville, Fla.; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Venette Blair; and one brother, Courtney Grosh.

Graveside services will be held today at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Cemetery in Clear Spring. David W. Sword, pastor, will officiate.

There will be no viewing.

Arrangements are by Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, Hagerstown.

Eric M. Long

MORGANTON, N.C. - Eric Martin Long, 56, of Morganton, died Friday, Jan. 24, 1997, at his home.

Born on June 9, 1940, in Fort Worth, Texas, he was the son of the late Eldon Clair Long and Margaret A. Nelson Long.

He retired from Giant Foods in Maryland.

He is survived by one sister, Sally Baker of Smithsburg; nieces and nephews; and his former wife, Pat Long of Frederick, Md.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Gary Spencer Nelson Long.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church, 101 W. Church St., Frederick.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 92 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Leonard D. Carmack

JEFFERSON, Md. - The Rev. Leonard David Carmack, 90, of Jefferson, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 1997, at Northampton Manor Nursing Home in Frederick, Md.

Born Nov. 18, 1906, in Wheaton, Md., he was the son of the late John N. and Emma Magruder Carmack.

His wife, Marian English Carmack, preceded him in death. They were married June 10, 1935.

He was a graduate of Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va., the University of Richmond in Richmond, Va., where he received his bachelor of arts degree, and Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, where he received his B.D. degree. He also attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.

He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

He was a minister for 39 years, first at First Baptist Church of Mardela Springs, Md., from 1932 to 1941; then at First Baptist Church in Brunswick, Md., from 1941 to 1971, where he was pastor emeritus; and First Baptist Church of Weverton, Md., from 1941 to 1944. During his ministry, he was active in Baptist denominational affairs, and served on the State Mission Board of the Baptist Convention of Maryland, now Maryland/Delaware, and on the Sunday School Board and Christian Life Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Frederick.

He was instrumental in establishing the Brunswick Public Library, and was its first president. He was a member of Brunswick Rotary Club for 46 years and was a Paul Harris Fellow and benefactor of the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. He taught extension courses for the University of Richmond.

He is survived by one daughter, Nancy C. Polhill of Louisville, Ky.; one son, David E. Carmack of Jefferson; three sisters, Florence Fonshell of College Station, Texas, Laura C. Johnson of Ocala, Fla., and Emma V. Payne of Silver Spring, Md.; one brother, Claude W. Carmack of Rockville, Md.; one granddaughter; and one grandson.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Ellamae Avancena; and one brother, Newman C. Carmack.

Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 217 Dill Ave., Frederick. The Rev. Larry Eubanks and the Rev. Burnis Barrett will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Donald R. Pennington

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Services with full military honors for Donald Ray Pennington, 64, of Blue Ridge Acres, Harper's Ferry, who died Friday, Jan. 31, 1997, will be held Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 1 p.m. at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.

An Air Force Chaplain from Arlington National Cemetery will officiate.

Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.

Eric M. Long

MORGANTON, N.C. - A memorial service for Eric Martin Long, 56, of Morganton, who died Friday, Jan. 24, 1997, will be held Monday, Feb. 10, at 7:30 p.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church, 108 W. Church St., Frederick, Md.

Richard C. Sanders

TEMPE, Ariz. - Richard C. Sanders, 25, of Tempe, died Friday, Jan. 24, 1997.

Born April 18, 1971, in Tokyo, Japan, he was the son of Atsuko M. and Shelby G. Sanders of Hagerstown.

He lived in Hawaii from 1972 to 1974, Boonsboro/Hagerstown from 1974 to 1995, and Tempe from 1995 until his death.

He was a 1989 graduate of Boonsboro High School. He completed his undergraduate and graduate programs at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., graduating in 1995.

He was employed as an industrial systems engineer with Intel Corp.

He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Mary C. Sanders of Silver Spring, Md.; his paternal grandmother, Mary G. Blose of Florence, Miss.; and his maternal grandmother, Hana Hikida of Tokyo.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mount Nebo United Methodist Church, 134 S. Main St., Boonsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be sent to the attention of Susan Sink at Virginia Tech Educational Foundation, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Va. 24061. Checks should be made payable to Virginia Tech Educational Foundation, marked for the Richard C. Sanders Endowment Scholarship for Industrial Systems Engineering students.

Dale F. Carbaugh

Dale Frederick Carbaugh, 41, of 9724 Sharpsburg Pike, Hagerstown, and formerly of Antietam Furnace, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 1997, at his home.

Born Aug. 5, 1955, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Vivian Viola Stottlemyer Carbaugh of Hagerstown, and the late Frederick Rudolph Carbaugh.

He was employed in maintenance at Lake Forest Mall in Gaithersburg, Md., until 1993. He was previously employed with Stewart Sandwiches and with Valley Mall in Hagerstown.

He attended Antietam Church of God in Sharpsburg, where he occasionally played the piano.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one sister, Dinah M. Marshall of Antietam; one brother, Douglas R. Carbaugh of Hagerstown; two nieces; and two nephews.

Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Richard A. Fox will officiate. Burial will be in Mount View Cemetery in Sharpsburg.

Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. Thursday for the convenience of family and friends.
