Franklin I. Dyer
MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Franklin I. Dyer, 72, of Dyer Road, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 1996, at his home.
Born April 30, 1924, in Upton, Pa., he was the son of the late Earl and Helen Zimmerman Dyer, and stepson of Anna Dyer of Chambersburg, Pa.
He was a farmer for all of his life.
He was a member of Little Cove United Methodist Church, Little Cove Road, Mercersburg, Pa.
He also was a member of Mercersburg Sportsmans Association.
In addition to his stepmother, he is survived by his wife, Estalene M. Moats Dyer, whom he married Jan. 3, 1949; one daughter, Judy K. Stotler of Hancock; one sister, Elanda Smith of Hiawassee, Ga.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one infant daughter.
Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Little Cove United Methodist Church, Little Cove Road, Mercersburg. The Rev. Harry E. Strite and the Rev. Paul A. Martin will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock, today from 7 to 9 p.m. For the convenience of friends the funeral home will be open today from 3 to 9 p.m. A viewing also will be held at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Rev. George E. Whetstone
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - The Rev. George Edward Whetstone, 80, convalescing at Quincy United Methodist Home, Quincy, Pa., and a resident of 206 Homewood Ave., Waynesboro, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 1996, at the nursing home.
Born March 31, 1916, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late George Harry and Nellie Vink Whetstone.
He graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1934. He then graduated from Gettysburg College in 1938, and Gettysburg Seminary in 1941. He received an honorary doctor of divinity degree from Gettysburg College in 1966.
He was ordained a pastor in 1941 as a son of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waynesboro, and was called there as its first assistant pastor. He then served churches in Hampstead, Md., Harrisburg, Pa., Hagerstown, and St. Paul, Minn. He also served on the bishop's staff for Central Pennsylvania Synod, and held several national positions.
He served in Minnesota for more than 20 years, and after retiring in 1985, moved back to Waynesboro. In retirement, he gave pastoral assistance to churches in Hagerstown and Greencastle, Pa.
He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waynesboro.
He also was a member of Waynesboro YMCA, and National AARP.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine Elizabeth Steck Whetstone, whom he married April 5, 1942; one daughter, Carol Jean Whetstone of Hamburg, Germany; two sons, G. Edward Whetstone Jr. of Catonsville, Md., and David Steck Whetstone of Minneapolis; one brother, Harold V. Whetstone of Baltimore; two grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, John Whetstone.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43 S. Church St., Waynesboro. Bishop Guy S. Edmiston Jr., the Rev. Richard A. Seaks and the Rev. Wayne P. Lupolt will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, today from 6 to 8 p.m.

Clyde H. Martin
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Clyde H. Martin, 85, a resident of Menno-Haven, and formerly of R.D. 6, Hagerstown, near Maugansville, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 1996, at the nursing home.
Born Sept. 18, 1911, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Abram H. and Susan B. Horst Martin.
His wife, Fanny R. Horst Martin, died in 1991.
He retired after 35 years as a self-employed interior decorator in the Hagerstown area, and also delivered milk for the former Eden Plains Dairy of Hagerstown. Early in life, he had a private milk business.
He was a member of Cedar Grove Mennonite Church near Greencastle.
He is survived by one daughter, Dorcas M. Good of Richmond, Va.; three sons, Robert L. Martin of East Earl, Pa., Victor R. Martin of Baltimore, and Samuel C. Martin of Denver; one sister, Edna Kuhns of Greencastle; two brothers, John H. Martin of Wilmington, Del., and Lloyd H. Martin of Chambersburg; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mabel Horst; and four brothers, Norman Martin, Raymond Martin, Roy Martin and Russell Martin.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Cedar Grove Mennonite Church, 12175 Williamsport Pike, Greencastle. The Rev. Robert Cahill, the Rev. Nelson Martin and the Rev. Mahlon Eshleman will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m., and at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Jacob F. Carbaugh
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Jacob F. Carbaugh, 69, of 31 Norland Ave., died Saturday, Nov. 30, 1996, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born July 14, 1927, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Frank and Jane Wagner Carbaugh.
He was a graduate of Chambersburg High School.
He was employed as a computer operator at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg for 20 years, retiring in 1980.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the 875th Ordnance Heavy Automotive Maintenance Co. as a Tech 5.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Chambersburg, where he formerly served on the church advisory board, and was a volunteer for the church.
He also was a member of Durff-Kuhn Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6168 of Shippensburg, Pa., Orrstown Lodge 262 F.&A.M., Goodwill Fire Co. in Chambersburg, National Association of Retired Federal Employees 1063, Penn Wheelers Camper Club Local 25, and the national Good Sam Camper Club.
He is survived by his wife, Eloise Hovermale Carbaugh, whom he married June 4, 1948; one daughter, Nina McIntire of Chambersburg; one son, J. Franklin Carbaugh II of Chambersburg; four sisters, Kathryn Happle of Hagerstown, and Loretta Eyer, Dolly Miller and Amy "Virginia" Carbaugh, all of Chambersburg; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
Services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 225 S. Second St., Chambersburg. The Rev. Donald C. Nolder will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery in Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m., where masonic services will be conducted by Orrstown Lodge 262 F.&A.M. at 8 p.m. Friends also will be received one hour prior to the service at the church.

Paula P. Lewis
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Paula P. Lewis, 58, of 69 Minnich Road, and formerly of Speedway, Ind., died Sunday, Dec. 1, 1996, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
Born May 24, 1938 in McKeesport, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Paul and Pauline Vukelic Paulsen.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., with a prayer service at 8 p.m.
Burial and other services will be held in Speedway.
Rita A. Oliver
WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Rita Anna Oliver, 66, of Warfordsburg, died Friday, Nov. 29, 1996, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born Dec. 16, 1929, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Carl F. and Anna L. Xander Gunnell.
Services and burial will be private.

Miriam M. Leidig
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Miriam M. Leidig, 84, a resident of Menno-Haven-Penn Hall, and formerly of 1214 Scotland Ave., Chambersburg, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 1996, at Menno Haven-Penn Hall.
Born Sept. 29, 1912, in Five Forks, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Molly Weicht McCleary.
Services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Ray M. Geigley will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery in Chambersburg.
Visitation will be Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be no viewing.

Raymond J. Shanholtz
FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Raymond Junior Shanholtz, 71, of Route 2, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 1996, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born July 18, 1925, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Issac and Rebecca Marshall Shanholtz.
He retired from ARA Vending Services in 1990 after 25 years of service.
He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, serving with the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of American Legion Post 202 in Williamsport, and was active in Boy Scouts of America for many years.
He is survived by one daughter, Rebecca Cunningham of Falling Waters; one son, William Shanholtz of Fairplay; four brothers, James Shanholtz, Paul Shanholtz and Melvin Shanholtz, all of Hagerstown, and Charles Shanholtz of California; and three granddaughters.
Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. J. Clark Hayes will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, with graveside military services conducted by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.

Timothy D. Brown
McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Timothy D. Brown, 23, of HRC 75, died Sunday, Dec. 1, in Dublin Township, Fulton County, Pa., as a result of an auto accident.
Born March 8, 1973, in McConnellsburg, he was the son of Larry D. and Vera Long Brown of McConnellsburg.
He was a 1992 graduate of Forbes Road High School.
He was a self-employed carpenter.
He attended Knobsville Church of the Brethren, McConnellsburg.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Melissa D. Souders of Harrisonville, Pa., and Amanda D. Brown of McConnellsburg; a maternal grandmother, Mary A. Long of Fort Littleton, Pa.; and two nieces.
Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at M.R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown, Pa. The Rev. Chris Elliott will officiate. Burial will be in Fort Littleton Cemetery, Fort Littleton.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

Earl M. Dofflemyer
Earl McClelland Dofflemyer, 66, of 16532 Fairview Road, Hagerstown, died Monday, Dec., 2, 1996, at his home.
Born Oct. 30, 1930, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Marcus and Dora Stum Dofflemyer. He was the foster son of the late Charles L. and Audrey A. Monninger.
He was employed by L'Aiglon and Dorbee Manufacturing, and for the past 20 years was employed as a custodian with Washington County Board of Education at Washington Street School, Western Heights Middle School and Conococheague Elementary School.
He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, serving with the U.S. Navy.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian M. Dofflemyer; two daughters, Barbara A. Patterson of Hagerstown, and Pamela J. Grubbs of Fayetteville, N.C.; one sister, Helen Scott of Hagerstown; one brother, Jack W. Dofflemyer of Big Spring; one granddaughter; two grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Michael Ryan will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
