Erma V.C. Keckler
MILLERSVILLE, Md. - Erma V. Cook Keckler, 83, a resident of Knollwood Nursing Home, and formerly of Buchanan Trail East, Waynesboro, Pa., died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born Aug. 1, 1913, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late William and Emma Lowman Cook.
Her husband, Miles Alexander Keckler, died in 1989. They were married Oct. 25, 1930.
She lived most of her life in the Waynesboro area, and moved to Pasadena, Md., in 1992, to live with her daughter.
She was employed as a seamstress at Waynesboro Knitting Mill and Connie's Sportswear, both in Waynesboro.
She is survived by one daughter, Dorothy J. Weddle of Pasadena; three sisters, Catherine Hoover of Seattle, Mildred Ridenour of Elkton, Md., and Thelma Izer, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home, Quincy, Pa.; one brother, Wilbur Cook of Waynesboro; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Emmert Cook, Verdean Cook and Leroy Cook.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Richard A. Seaks will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Raymond Waters
BOONSBORO - Raymond "Payme" Waters, 95, a resident of Reeders Memorial Home and formerly of Dargan, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born Dec. 1, 1901, in Dargan, he was the son of the late John N. and Frances D. Johnson Waters.
His first wife, Mabel Ruth Jamison Waters, died in 1930.
He had been employed at Standard Lime and Stone in Bakerton, W.Va., and retired from M.J. Grove Lime Co. in Frederick, Md.
He was a member of Samples Manor Church of God.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian V. Kretzer Waters; two daughters, Anna Louise Jamison of Sharpsburg and Frances Houser of Dargan; three sons, Dallas R. Waters of Sharpsburg, Junior Lee Waters of Downsville and Richard Waters of Falling Waters, W.Va.; one foster daughter, Sandra M. Long of Sharpsburg; 14 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by seven sisters and eight brothers.
Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. The Rev. Chester Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Samples Manor Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Clara F.B. Hykes
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Clara Frances Blubaugh Hykes, 90, of Menno Haven and formerly of Kansas, Boulder, Colo., Quincy, Pa., and Waynesboro, Pa., died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 1997, at Menno Haven.
Born Aug. 25, 1906, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Benjamin Franklin and Pearl Malinda Bonner Blubaugh.
Her husband, John William Hykes, died in 1994. They were married April 11, 1934, in Hagerstown.
She was a 1924 graduate of Quincy High School.
She and her husband operated a ranch for 25 years in Kansas, then moved to Boulder. They returned to Waynesboro in 1983.
She was a member of Boulder Presbyterian Church, Boulder.
She is survived by one daughter, Frances Anne MacAnaly of Boulder; three stepsisters, Florence Steil of Menno Haven in Chambersburg, Haidee Kaslusky of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Gene Taylor of Baltimore; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and one grandson.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Green Hill Cemetery. The Rev. John Paul Holsey and the Rev. Brent Driver will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Snyder-Lochstampfor Funeral Home Inc., Waynesboro.
Agnes G. Berkheimer
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Agnes Good Berkheimer, 86, a resident of Penn Hall Retirement Community, Chambersburg, Pa., and formerly of Eastland Hills, Waynesboro, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born March 16, 1910, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Daniel F. and Anna Bonebrake Good.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Joseph O. Berkheimer, in 1988. They were married Dec. 1, 1937.
She was a 1928 graduate of Waynesboro High School, and a 1931 graduate of Bryn Mawr Hospital School of Nursing, Bryn Mawr, Pa.
Before her marriage, she was employed as a nurse in a Philadelphia hospital.
She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Waynesboro.
She also was a member of the Waynesboro Hospital Auxiliary and the National AARP.
She is survived by one daughter, Linda B. Snurr of Chambersburg; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, two step-great-granddaughters; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m., at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Ray L. Kauffman will officiate.
There will be no public viewing.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
A second memorial service will be held Monday at 3 p.m., at Penn Hall Chapel, 1425 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. Ray M. Geigley, chaplain, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Cumberland Valley Crematorium, Waynesboro, is in charge of the arrangements.
Michael D. Boyd
Michael D. Boyd, 55, of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 1997, at his home.
Born Jan. 28, 1942, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of William T. and Helen E. Burton Boyd of Walterboro, S.C.
He was a 1970 graduate of the University of Maryland, where he received his bachelor of arts degree. He later received his master's degree in psychology from Hood College and was working on his second master's degree in American Studies from Loyola College.
He worked as a professor at Frederick Community College, where he taught political science and criminal justice. He also was training director at Roxbury Correctional Facility, addictions coordinator for Frederick County, and a parole and probation agent for the State of Maryland.
He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Shepherdstown, W.Va.
He also was a member of Williamsport Masonic Medairy Lodge 140 A.F.&A.M., and Supreme Court Historical Society.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Aileen M. Boyd; one daughter, Jennifer B. McAllister of Edgewood, Md.; one son, David A. Boyd of York, Pa.; and one granddaughter.
Services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 200 W. King St., Shepherdstown. The Rev. Stanley Jones will officiate.
The family will receive friends at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, Friday from 7 to 9 p.m., where Medairy Lodge 140 A.F.&A.M. will hold a masonic service at 7 p.m.

Evelyn M. Magaha
Evelyn Marie "Sweet Pea" Magaha, 84, of 350 Vista St., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 1997, at Coffman Nursing Home.
Born Aug. 20, 1912, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late James Frederick and Bessie Wolfe McGinnis; and stepdaughter of Mazie V. McGinnis.
She worked for various textile industry manufacturers, and retired in 1975 from Dorbee Manufacturing.
She was a member of First Christian Church, and the Friendly Circle Sunday School Class.
She bowled with the AARP Bowling League at Sunshine Lanes in Rouzerville. She was a member of National AARP.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Raymond A. Magaha; one daughter, Constance J. Little of Hagerstown; two sisters, Kathryn L. Kershner and Alice M. Head, both of Hagerstown; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Dean M. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Dwight R. Spessard
GRANVILLE, Ohio - Dwight Rinehart Spessard, 77, of Granville, died Friday, Jan. 17, 1997, at his home.
Born July 6, 1919, in Westerville, Ohio, he was the son of the late Arthur Ray and Katherine Elizabeth Rinehart Spessard.
He and his wife had a summer home near Smithsburg.
He was a 1937 graduate of Westerville High School. He received his bachelor's degree from Otterbein College in Westerville, in 1941; and his doctorate from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1944.
He was a professor emeritus at Denison University, where he taught organic chemistry from 1953 to 1983 and was chairman of the Chemistry Department from 1958 to 1961. Following his retirement from Denison, he volunteered with the AARP Tax Aide Program for Senior Citizens, serving as a counselor, teacher of counselors and a regional coordinator.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he served during World War II.
He was a former research chemist for General Electric Co. in Schenectady, N.Y., and taught organic chemistry at Muskingum College in New Concord.
He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Granville.
He also was a member of American Chemical Society.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Agnes Dailey Spessard; one daughter, Patricia Ann Schramm of Heath, Ohio; one son, Ronald Miles Spessard of Marysville, Ohio; five grandchildren; and cousins in this area.
A memorial service was held Monday, Jan. 20, at Centenary United Methodist Church in Granville. Graveside services were held at the College Cemetery of Denison University in Granville. The Rev. Steve Cramer officiated.

Mary B. Evans
Mary B. Evans, 81, of 13234 Briarcliff Drive, Hagerstown, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 13, 1915, in Scranton, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Wendel and Marcella Namath Bella.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Francis Evans, in 1968.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America and Women's Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Annette Leonas of Bradford, N.H., and Deborah Evans of Hagerstown; two sons, Richard Evans of Waynesboro, Pa., and John Evans of Shelby Township, Mich.; nine grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 224 W. Washington St., Hagerstown. The Rev. George A. Limmer will be celebrant. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
