Alice D. Lum
Alice D. Lum, 88, of 13826 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, died Monday, Feb. 10, 1997, at Williamsport Nursing Home, Williamsport.
Born Oct. 18, 1908, in Broadfording, she was the daughter of the late John Daniel and Isabell Perrot Shank.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Clarence Lum, in 1991.
She was employed by the Washington County Board of Education as a cafeteria manager at North Potomac Middle School for 22 years.
She was a member of the Hagerstown Church of the Brethren.
She is survived by one niece, Margaret V. Timmons of Hagerstown; and grandnieces.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Edith L. Rummel; and two sisters, Mazie Myers and Edith Myers.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Dean M. Miller and the Rev. Rachel E. Black will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Elmer S. Smith
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Elmer S. Smith, 73, of 313 N. Franklin St., died Monday, Feb. 10, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born Feb. 24, 1923, in York, Pa., he was the son of the late Martin L. and Lillie M. Myers Smith.
He was a 1941 graduate of Waynesboro High School.
He was employed in the sheet metal trade at Frick Co., Waynesboro, retiring in 1985. He also was co-owner of the Waynesboro News Agency.
A veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, he served during World War II in Italy with the 15th Air Force, and later with the Air Transport Command in Abadon Air Force Base, Iran.
He was a member of the Waynesboro Church of the Brethren Church.
He also was a member of American Legion Joe Stickle Post 15; International Order of Odd Fellows Lodge 219; AARP 739; National AARP; and Mechanics S.F.&H. Co. 2.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Anna M. Gossard Smith; six sisters, Charlotte A. Cordell and Helen L. McKean, both of Waynesboro, Mary J. Myers of Garden Grove, Calif., Delores J. Mosser of Zullinger, Pa., Dorothy M. Olson and Nancy K. Christophel, both of Chambersburg, Pa.; two brothers, William M. Smith of Waynesboro and Martin L. Smith of Milford, Del.; two aunts; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Catherine Smith, Clara Smith and Betty S. Patterson; and one brother, Louis Smith.
Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Snyder-Lochstampfor Funeral Home, corner of South Church and West Second streets, Waynesboro. The Rev. Brent Driver will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.

Margaret V. Dietrich
QUINCY, Pa. - Margaret V. Dietrich, 85, of Quincy United Methodist Home, and formerly of 112 S. Allison St., Greencastle, Pa., died Monday, Feb. 10, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born Feb. 11, 1911, in Montgomery Township, near Upton, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Fred W. and Cora E. Myers Dietrich.
She was a 1929 graduate of Greencastle High School. She also graduated from Shippensburg Normal School.
A teacher for 37 years, she was employed at Montgomery Township Elementary School, Blue Ridge Summit, Pa.; Antrim Township Elementary School; and Monterey Elementary School, Blue Ridge Summit. Prior to retiring in 1968, she taught at the Hooverville Elementary School in the Waynesboro, Pa., school district.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Greencastle, and was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class. She taught Sunday school in the primary department for many years, served on various committees within the church and purchased and handed out Bibles to the high school seniors of the church.
She was a member of AARP.
She is survived by one sister, Mildred L. Goetz of Greencastle; one brother, Marvin F. Dietrich of Maugansville; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Minnich-Miller-May Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle. The Rev. David J. Armstrong will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

Ralph E. Uglow Jr.
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Ralph E. Uglow Jr., 54, of 273 S. Seventh St., died Monday, Feb. 10, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Aug. 22, 1942, in Chambersburg, he was the son of Frances R. Roll Mills of Chambersburg and the late Ralph E. Uglow Sr.
He was a 1961 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School.
He was employed by Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, as an electronics technician, for 35 years. He formerly had worked as a crossing guard at Andrew Buchanan Elementary School.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
He was a member of King Street United Brethren Church, Chambersburg.
He also was a member of South Penn Area Rose Society, Chambersburg. He enjoyed rose gardening; woodworking and displaying his Department 56 Dickens Village Collection.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Antoinette J. "Toni" Hawking Uglow, whom he married Aug. 10, 1967; two daughters, Michelle L. Uglow of Fayetteville, Pa., and Heather R. Souders of Chambersburg; three sisters, Susan Newell, Darlene "Dolly" Mills and Wendy Mills, all of Chambersburg; two brothers, Terry L. Mills and Bennett E. Mills, both of Chambersburg; one grandson; one niece; two nephews; two great-nieces and three great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Merle N. Mills.
Services will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Lester F. Stine will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
Viewing will be held Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Leonard E. Browne, 50, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 1997, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.
Services will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home. The Rev. Patrick J. Walker will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Charles R. Timmons
MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Charles R. Timmons, 78, of 14795 Secrist Road, died Monday, Feb. 10, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa.
Born April 5, 1918, near Mercersburg, he was the son of the late George C. and Mary Robinson Timmons.
He had been employed by the former Suplee Sealtest Milk Co. of Mercersburg as the assistant manager. He worked as a processor in the tank department at Letterkenny Army Depot, starting at the base in 1966 and retiring in 1981.
He was a member of Mercersburg Assembly of God Church.
He also was a member of the National Rifle Association and the National Wild Turkey Federation. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Vera M. Straley Timmons; one son, R. Eugene Timmons of Mercersburg; four sisters, Barbara Clark, Jeanette Straley, both of Mercersburg, Viola Turner and Charlotte Faith, both of Clear Spring; and two granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Lloyd Timmons, John Timmons, David Timmons and Fred Timmons.
Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Mercersburg Assembly of God Church. The Rev. Willis I. Murray will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 North Park Avenue, Mercersburg, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

RANSON, W.Va. - Clifford Bryce Souders, 66, of Ranson, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 1997, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town, W.Va. The Rev. Wyman Hall will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.

George W. Dailey
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - George William Dailey, 84, of Martinsburg, died Monday, Feb. 10, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born June 6, 1912, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late James Henry Clay and Nannie Lee Whittington Dailey.
He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.
He also was a member of Moose Lodge 120, Martinsburg and Elks Lodge 1975 of Trone, Calif.
He is survived by one daughter, Suzann Vega of Niles, Ohio; one son, Dr. G. Curtis Dailey of Hampton, Va.; three grandchildren, Renee Dailey Daniel of Aberdeen, N.C., Dr. Curtis William Dailey of Charlottesville, Va., and Henry Vega of Niles; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary E. Dailey; three brothers, Joseph S. Dailey, Paul J. Dailey and Charles R. Dailey; two half-sisters, Blanche B. Dailey and Catherine E. Dailey; and five half-brothers, Christian H. Dailey, Harry A. Dailey, Lawrence V. Dailey, James S. Dailey and Raymond B. Dailey.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Paul C. Stanley will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
