Rosalie B. S. B. Hess
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Rosalie B. Shatzer Burner Hess, 89, of Menno Haven Nursing Home, Chambersburg, and formerly of 601 E. Main St., Waynesboro, Pa., died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born Jan. 12, 1908, in Winchester, Va., she was the daughter of the late Edward N. and Etta Strock Shatzer.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, William S. Burner, in 1944; and by her second husband, Franklin M. Hess, on May 20, 1973.
She was a 1924 graduate of Chambersburg High School.
She was employed as a secretary by the superintendent of Chambersburg High School; Hagerstown Gas Co.; Swift Co., Chambersburg; and the H.J. Hines Co., Chambersburg.
She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Waynesboro.
She also was a member of National AARP and was a former member of the Sweet Adeline and then Sounds' Harmony. She volunteered and operated the preschool at Easter Seal Society, Roadside Avenue, Waynesboro, for 13 years. She was an assistant leader for the Girl Scouts.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara A. Harbaugh of Waynesboro; two sons, Lee E. Burner of Waynesboro and William S. Burner of Fayetteville, Pa.; one stepson, John F. S. Hess of Waynesboro; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two step-great-granddaughters.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor David L. Keener will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Richard K. Green
BUNKER HILL, W.Va. - Richard Keith Green, 62, of Bunker Hill, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 1997, at his home.
Born April 12, 1934, in Roane County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Artie and Mamie Abbott Green.
He retired from the S.W. Keasey Delivery Service in Hagerstown.
A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he served during the Korean War.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of the D.A.V., Martinsburg, W.Va.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary Corder Green; two daughters, Iris Thomas of Gerrardstown, W.Va., and Dee Wilt of Martinsburg; two sons, Randol Green at home and Kevin Green of Martinsburg; three sisters, Maxine Grove of Manchester, Ohio, Phyllis Paige of Reno, Nev., and Ruby Paxton of Elkview, W.Va.; one brother, Eugene Green of Clendenin, W.Va.; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Noble Green.
Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel. Pastor Earl Hairston will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mary E. H. Rice
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Mary Edna Hartley Rice, 84, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born July 10, 1912, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Hazel Cleveland Hartley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Wesley Rice, on Sept. 10, 1970.
She was a 1931 graduate of Martinsburg High School.
She retired as manager of the former Perfection Garment Retail Store.
She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and the Mizpah Class of the church.
She also was a member of Golden Rule Chapter 69, Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by two sons, Ron Rice of Bunker Hill, W.Va., and Terry Rice of Inwood, W.Va.; one sister, Margaret Wilson of Martinsburg; one brother, Arthur Hartley of Martinsburg; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Hartley.
Services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Al Clipp will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Lester C. Washington Sr.
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Lester Curtis "Pete" Washington Sr., 69, of Mecklenburg Heights, Shepherdstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 1997, at his home.
Born Feb. 24, 1927, in Shepherdstown, he was the son of the late John R. and Mary Catherine Clark Washington.
He was employed as a construction worker until his retirement.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Shepherdstown. He also was a member of the Methodist Men of the church.
He played baseball for the Shepherdstown Red Cross.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary "Lou" Elizabeth Stevenson Washington; one daughter, Judy Ann Grantham of Shepherdstown; two sons, Keith A. Boyd and Lester C. Washington Jr., both of Shepherdstown; three sisters, Cassie Walker of Martinsburg, W.Va., Hughbell Washington and Myrtle Stubbs, both of Shepherdstown; and two brothers, Kingsley Washington and Newton Washington, both of Shepherdstown.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Pauline Bolden; one brother, Charles "Pap" Clark; and one half-brother, Clarence Ross.
Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, W.Va. 480, Shepherdstown. The Rev. Ernest Lyles and the Rev. Charles Hunter will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.
Friends will be received at Asbury United Methodist Church Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Jane S. Feist
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Jane S. Feist, 76, of Martinsburg, and formerly of Vincentown, N.J., died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born April 22, 1920, in Virginia Beach, Va., she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth O'Connor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Feist Sr.
She was a retired chiropractic assistant.
She was an active member of the Vincentown Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Janet Kawalek of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; two sons, Oliver Feist Jr. of Denver and Kenneth Feist of Norristown, Pa.; two sisters, Ethel Alday of Pennsauken, N.J., and Peggy Smith of Erin, Tenn.; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Vincentown Baptist Church, Vincentown.

Viola V. S. Cassell
STOW, OHIO - Viola V. Shackelford Cassell, 78, of Stow, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 1997.
She was born in Shepherdstown, W.Va., where she was a 50-year resident.
She is survived by three daughters, Patricia Kendall of Dover, Ohio, Betty Cassell of Mogadore, Ohio, and Karen Speas of Stow; one son, Richard Cassell of Hartville, Ohio; two sisters, Lilly Grayson and Laura Stockslager, both of Sharpsburg; two brothers, Albert Shackelford of Munroe Falls, Ohio, and Edward Shackelford of Florida; and five grandchildren.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Redmon Funeral Home, Stow. The Rev. Larry Engle will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Joseph E. Ferrell
FREDERICK, Md. - Joseph Elsworth Ferrell, 74, of Pine Cliff Drive, Frederick, died Monday, Feb. 10, 1997, at Frederick Health Care Center, Frederick.
Born June 7, 1922, in Burnt House, W.Va., he was the son of the late Willard and Dolle Hinzman.
He was employed by Fairchild of Germantown, retiring as an aerospace design engineer.
A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he served as a fighter pilot in the South Pacific during World War II.
He enjoyed his family, reading, traveling and singing old songs.
He is survived by his wife, June C. Lupro Ferrell; two sons, Bradley E. Ferrell of Libertytown, Md., and Scott E. Ferrell of Frederick; three sisters, Connie Selsor and Jacqueline Sutton, both of York, Pa., and June Siegmund of Beauford, S.C.; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, Md. 144 at Sycamore Flats, Frederick. The Rev. Gary Sheffield James will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Lee R. Lewis
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Lee Roy Lewis, 79, of Winchester Pike, Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 1997, at Heartland Nursing Home, under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born March 24, 1917, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Della Virginia Kerns Lewis.
He retired from Potomac Edison Co. after 40 years.
He was a member of Pikeside United Methodist Church, where he served in all positions of the church.
He was a member of Junior Order of United American Mechanics 35 for the past 50 years, where he held all major offices. He also held the office of West Virginia State Counselor in 1985.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hazel B. Frye Lewis; one daughter, Valinda Sue Shawyer of Martinsburg; three sons, Richard L. Lewis of Ocean City, N.J., Thomas W. Lewis of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and Melvin S. Lewis of Martinsburg; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter L. Lewis and Gilbert N. Lewis; and a granddaughter, Shannon R. Lewis.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Pikeside United Methodist Church. The Rev. Michael G. Marsh will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
