Joseph Biesecker
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Joseph "Welty" Biesecker, 89, of 10069 Wayne Highway, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 1996, at his home.
Born Oct. 18, 1907, in Quincy Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Benjamin W. and Nora L. Talhelm Biesecker.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna B. Garvin Biesecker on Oct. 26, 1994.
He was employed as a laborer by Fayetteville Elevator Co., Fayetteville, Pa., until his retirement. He also had been a farmer; laborer for both Ankerbrand Lumber Co. and Carter Lumber Co.
He was a member of Solomon's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
He is survived by one daughter, Phyllis J. Foreman of Chambersburg, Pa.; one son, Glenn L. Biesecker of Jones, Okla.; two sisters, Leola M. Myers of Waynesboro and Janet E. Bowen of Baltimore; one brother, C. Roy Biesecker of Waynesboro; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren and 11 step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
Services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg.
The Rev. Michael E. Allwein will officiate.
Burial will be in Grindstone Hill Cemetery, Chambersburg.
Viewing will be held Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Betty J. Harbaugh
SABILLASVILLE, Md. - Betty Jane Harbaugh, 67, of 6422 Debold Road, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 1996, at Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro, Pa.
Born Aug. 14, 1929, in Wigville, Md., she was the daughter of Adeline Bertha Draper Green of Thurmont, Md., and the late Kiefer Guy Green.
She was a member of Deerfield United Methodist Church, Deerfield, Md.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 49 years, Donald Heimer Harbaugh; two daughters, Bonnie DeLauter and Linda Sharer, both of Sabillasville; two sisters, Martha Harbaugh and Virginia Miller, both of Thurmont; two granddaughters and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Thurmont Funeral Home of Robert E. Dailey & Son, 615 E. Main St., Thurmont.
The Rev. Lloyd Hahn and the Rev. Julie Brigham will officiate.
Burial will be in Creagerstown Cemetery, Creagerstown, Md.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Harold W. Weddle
THURMONT, Md. - Harold Williard "Skeeter" Weddle, 62, of 306 E. Main St., died Friday, Nov. 8, 1996, at St. Catherine's Nursing Home, Emmitsburg, Md.
Born Feb. 10, 1934, in Thurmont, he was the son of the late John Milton and Margaret Katherine Williard Weddle.
He was employed with the family business, John M. Weddle Construction of Thurmont, for 15 years. He retired from Moore's Business Forms of Thurmont, where he was employed for 30 years as a maintenance "A" mechanic.
He was a member of the NRA and the AARP.
He is survived by one son, Ronald W. Weddle of Marathon, Fla.; one granddaughter, Angelica Weddle of Georgia; two nieces; three great nieces; and a great nephew.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Caroline Weddle in 1930; one brother, John R. "Jake" Weddle on Aug. 18, 1990 and one nephew, Jay Richard Weddle in March 1972.
Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Thurmont Funeral Home of Robert E. Dailey & Son, 615 E. Main St., Thurmont.
The Rev. James Fisher will officiate.
Burial will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery, Thurmont.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Mary S. Sturgis
KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - Mary Salome Sturgis, 94, of Kearneysville, died Friday, Nov. 8, 1996, at Homewood Retirement Village, Williamsport.
Born Oct. 23, 1902, in Wolfsville, Md., she was the daughter of the late C. Frederick and Jennie Harp Warrenfeltz.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Sturgis in 1973.
She was a graduate of University of Maryland.
She was a former school teacher.
She retired as a statistician for the Department of Public Health in Washington, D.C.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Hagerstown and attended the Presbyterian Church in Kearneysville.
She was a former member of AARP 799, Charles Town, W.Va.; Shepherdstown Women's Club and the Jefferson Extension Homemakers Club.
She is survived by several cousins.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Randall Tremba will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Leah Horovitz
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Leah Horovitz, 82, of Jacksonville, died Nov. 2, 1996, at Baptist Medical Center, Jacksonville.
She is survived by two daughters, Sybil Schiffman of Shepherdstown, W.Va., and Marilyn Sims of Jacksonville; and five grandchildren, Laura Schiffman Newberry of Hagerstown, Dan Schiffman of Fairfax, Va., Michael Sims of Jacksonville, Sherry Ferlin of Greensboro, N.C., and Debbie Harris of Philadelphia.
The family will receive friends at the home of Sybil Schiffman on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m.

Betty Lou Files, 65, of 54 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 1996, at her home.
Born Oct. 19, 1931, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Elizabeth M. Armstrong Lady of Hagerstown and the late Harry S. Lady Sr.
She attended Otterbein United Methodist Church.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by two daughters, Sharon E. Forbes of Phoenix, and Amanda D. Muller of Aberdeen, N.J.; four sons, Emmert Thomas Files of Hagerstown, Jeffrey R. Pontrelli of Severna Park, Md., Keith D. Files and Kevin L. Files, both of New Jersey; two brothers, Richard G. Lady of Tampa, Fla., and Harry S. Lady Jr. of Hagerstown; three granddaughters; two step-granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson.
A memorial service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown.
The Rev. Stephen D. Robison will officiate.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Diane S. Poffenberger
NEEDMORE, Pa. - Diane S. Poffenberger, 46, of Rt. 1, Box 1164, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 1996, at her home.
Born May 14, 1950, in Harrisburg, Pa., she was the daughter of Rozella Erdman Silks of Millersburg, Pa., and the late Richard Silks.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Needmore Bible Church.
She was a member of Iota Lambda Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Pastor Douglas Poffenberger; one daughter, Danelle Daniels of McConnellsburg, Pa.; one son, David R. Poffenberger of Toccoa, Ga.; and three sisters, Dawn Reese of Harrisburg, Darla Heyne of Shrewsburg, Pa., and Dana Hepner of Millersburg.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Needmore Bible Church.
The Rev. Robert Stokes will officiate.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be at the church today from 5 to 9 p.m.

Dan O. Shatzer
ST. THOMAS, Pa. - Dan O. Shatzer, 76, of 8509 Lincoln Way West, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 1996, at his home.
Born July 25, 1920, in St. Thomas, he was the son of the late Paul and Beulah Otenberger Shatzer.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hilda Byers Shatzer, in 1948.
He was a molders helper and employed by T.B. Woods in shipping, prior to retirement in 1977.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of Local 695 of UAW; AMVETS Post 224, Chambersburg, Pa.; Dietrich-Brechbill Post 612 American Legion, St. Thomas; American Legion Wesley Yeager Post 606, Fort Loudon, Pa.; Landis McCleaf Detachment Home Association, Chambersburg; and VFW Post 1599, Chambersburg.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred I. "Peggy" Wolfe Shatzer, whom he married on April 15, 1959; one daughter, Freda Warren of Jonestown, Pa.; two sons, Larry Shatzer of Huber Heights, Ohio, and Donald Shatzer of Hagerstown; one stepdaughter, Judy Cook of Chambersburg; five sisters, Janet McFadden of St. Thomas, Rosaline Byers of Bethany Beach, Del., Helen Miller of Edenville, Pa., Mary G. Picking of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Eva Fox of North Fort Myers, Fla.; one brother, Robert Shatzer of Chambersburg; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Lois June Shatzer.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 6492 Lincoln Way West, St. Thomas.
The Rev. Paul Crawford will officiate. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery.
