Helen M.S. Stevens
CHESTER, Pa. - Helen M. Stoner Stevens, 87, of Chester, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 1997, at Belvedere Nursing Home, Chester.
Born in Fayetteville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late David and Gertrude Eyler Stoner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Meril L. Stevens, in 1979.
She owned and operated the Lovely Dame Beauty Shop in Hagerstown for 15 years. She retired in 1960.
She was a bingo player.
She is survived one daughter, Lois Stevens of Upland, Pa.; one sister, Mary Leisher of Baltimore; five brothers, Ray Stoner of Colonia, N.J., Bill Stoner of Fredericksburg, Va., Marlin Stoner of Manasquam, N.J., Stuart Stoner of Denzille, N.J., and Richard Stoner of Berlin, Md.; and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Jack Leonard Stevens and Richard Stevens.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at noon at Kings Mill, 6000 Pennell Road, Aston, Pa. The family will receive friends after the service.

Anna E. Fries
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Anna E. Fries, 82, of Care Haven, died Monday, Feb. 17, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born Oct. 3, 1914, in Bakerton, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William A. and Maude Grimm Holler.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Fries, in 1974.
She earlier had been employed by Perfection Garment Co.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Martinsburg.
She is survived by two sons, Harold "Sonny" Fries and James Douglas Fries, both of Martinsburg; two sisters, Rebecca Walker of Brunswick, Md., and Jean Holler of Bakerton; two brothers, Amos Holler of Charles Town, W.Va., and Gerald Holler of Bakerton; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Eleanor Holler and Elaine Milovouich; and two brothers, William Holler and Jack Holler.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel, Martinsburg. The Rev. Ed Grove will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Henrietta E. Stallknecht
BOONSBORO - Henrietta E. Stallknecht, 89, of 8507 Mapleville Road, died Monday, Feb. 17, 1997, at Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home, near Boonsboro.
Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Harry G. and Henrietta J. Dubblede Roebuck.
She was a graduate of Goucher College, Baltimore.
In 1925, she assisted her father and brother in forming the H.G. Roebuck and Son Printing Co. in Baltimore and managed the Hagerstown branch office for many years. She also was an author.
She was a member of Haven Lutheran Church. She was an associate member of the Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Chapel. She was a member of the Church Women, was a Bible studies teacher, taught confirmation class at Haven Lutheran Church and Ladies Bible Class at St. John's Lutheran Church. She directed numerous church plays.
She was a member of Fountain Head Country Club. She was a former member of the Business and Professional Women's Club.
She is survived by her husband, R. Allard Stallknecht.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Anne M. Roebuck; and two brothers, Harry T. Roebuck and Charles M. Roebuck.
Services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Haven Lutheran Church, 1035 Haven Road, Hagerstown. The Rev. Eleanor S. Doub will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Parkwood Cemetery, Baltimore.
Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.
Geraldine V. Detrow
BOONSBORO - Geraldine Virginia Detrow, 82, of 8213 Mapleville Road, died Monday, Feb. 17, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Oct. 23, 1914, in Mapleville, she was the daughter of the late Jane Kennedy Dick.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Clifford Detrow, in 1992.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Beaver Creek Christian Church and Loyal Daughters Sunday School Class.
She also was a member of AARP.
She is survived by one daughter, Delores A. Proctor of Beech Creek, Pa.; one son, Ronald E. Detrow of Mapleville; one sister, Catherine Daveler of Hagerstown; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. J. Mark Curran will officiate. Burial will be in Beaver Creek Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Margaret V. Guessford
Margaret V. Guessford, 65, of Youngstoun Drive, Hagerstown, and formerly of Edgemont, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1997, at her home.
Born Oct. 10, 1931, in Smithsburg, she was the daughter of the late Clifford G. and Mary G. Kindle Himes Sr.
She was a 1949 graduate of Smithsburg High School.
She was employed by Avalon Manor Nursing Home in Hagerstown, retiring in 1993.
She is survived by one daughter, Lori E. Myers of Greencastle, Pa.; five sons, Richard B. Harbaugh Jr. of Parker, Colo., Jeffrey L. Harbaugh and Chris E. Harbaugh, both of Hagerstown, John C. Harbaugh of Williamsport, and Oscar L. "Corky" Guessford Jr. of San Antonio; two sisters, Jean C. Beaver and Nancy E. Hays, both of Smithsburg; two brothers, Howard W. "Bill" Himes of Edgemont, and Russell F. Himes of Clear Spring; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Louise Yingling; and one brother, Clifford G. Himes Jr.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg. The Rev. William H. Bice will officiate. Burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery.

BOONSBORO - Susanna Elizabeth Mills, 78, formerly of 14004 Mercersburg Road, Clear Spring, a resident of Reeder's Nursing Home, who died Sunday, Feb. 16, 1997, was a member of Mount Tabor United Brethren in Christ Church.
Thomas H. Mills
MONT ALTO, Pa. - Thomas H. "Speedy" Mills, 86, of 219 S. Main St., died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro, Pa.
Born Sept. 27, 1910, in Clear Spring, he was the son of the late Bernard F. and Leila J. Suffecool Mills Sr.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah S. Verdier Mills, on March 5, 1991. They were married on June 2, 1936.
He was employed as a machinist by Landis Tool Co., Waynesboro, retiring in 1975 after 40 years.
He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, Mont Alto, and the Men's Bible Class of the church.
He is survived by one daughter, Peggy S. Spencer of Mont Alto; two sisters, Helen Rook of Waynesboro and Jane Reese of Virginia; four brothers, George Mills, Glen Mills and Ronald Mills, all of Waynesboro, and Guy Mills of Fayetteville, Pa.; one granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, David Mills and Bernard Mills Jr.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 9 Park St., Mont Alto. The Rev. James C. House and the Rev. John H. Ness will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mont Alto.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Thomas E. West
QUINCY, Pa. - Thomas E. West, 73, of Quincy United Methodist Home, and formerly of 907 Summit Ave., Waynesboro, Pa., died Monday, Feb. 17, 1997, at the home.
Born Nov. 6, 1923, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Ernest H. and Thelma C. Stoner West.
He was employed as a branch chief in the electronics division of Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, Pa., retiring in 1979 after 35 years.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II in the European Theater.
He was a member of St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, Waynesboro.
He also was a member of BPO Elks Lodge 731; a member and former trustee of Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15; a member and past commander of the William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695; South Chapter 2977 AARP, all of Waynesboro; and National AARP. He was a fisherman. He was a coach for both Little League and Pony League for a number of years. He served as a volunteer instructor at the YMCA, Waynesboro, and had served as chairman for the Hi-Y basketball tournaments.
He is survived by his wife, Louise B. Brezler West, whom he married June 25, 1946; three daughters, Julia A. West of Greencastle, Pa., Teresa L. Cox of Lancaster, Pa., and Mary E. Kritikos of Martinsburg, W.Va.; three sons, Thomas S. West, Michael D. West and Dennis E. West, all of Waynesboro; 15 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Eileen P. Beck; and one brother, Robert S. West.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church. The Rev. Thomas J. Hemler will be celebrant. Burial, with military graveside services conducted by the honor guard of Charles M. Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, Chambersburg, will be in St. Andrew Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m.
