Barbara E. Kelly
WESTMINSTER, Md. - Barbara Elizabeth Kelly, 58, of near Westminster, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1997, at Carroll County General Hospital.
Born Oct. 14, 1938, in Cumberland, Md., she was the daughter of the late Hazel L. Barnes and Wilber H. Miller.
She was a 1956 graduate of Sykesville High School.
She also was a graduate of Frederick Community College of Nursing, where she received her degree and the designation of registered nurse.
She served Carroll County General Hospital for 20 years. I
n 1978, she was assigned to learn and introduce primary-care nursing to the hospital.
She worked with the engineers in the design implementation of the 2 North-West Wing, where she was nurse manager for the following eight years.
For the past 11 years, she served as a nursing manager at Springfield State Hospital Center in Sykesville.
In 1995 she and a colleague founded and established Springfield Hospital Museum.
She was involved in community life, teaching Sunday School earlier and numerous youth activities in church and Carroll County schools.
She was a past member of Westminster and Taneytown Jaycettes and numerous nursing and hospital programs.
She and her husband helped form Maryland Gold Wings Inc., motorcycling touring club, where she was the first female president in 1989.
She was a member of Chapter K, Gold Wing Road Riders Association, where she and her husband were Mr. and Mrs. Maryland in 1990.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Michael J. Kelly; three sons, David M. Kelly of Lisle, Ill., Aaron Kelly of Hagerstown and Jon Kelly of Westminster, Md.; three sisters, Jackie Talley of Sykesville, Helena Reaves of Welcome, N.C., and Becky Fralin of Eldersburg, Md.; two brothers, Roby Barnes III of Manchester, Md., and Jeffrey Barnes of Sykesville; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Bond and Green streets, Westminster.
The Rev. Michael O. Simmons, assisted by Clayton Briley and the Rev. Stanley Janaites, chaplains, will officiate.
Burial will be in St. James Dennings Methodist Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Myers Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster, today from 7 to 9 p.m., and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Bond and Green streets, Westminster, Md. 21157.

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Eleanor "Ellen" Rutherford Amoroso, 89, of Charles Town, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1997, at her home.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Zion Episcopal Church. The Rev. John Bower will officiate.
Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.

Olive H. Umpleby
MARION, Pa. - Olive H. Umpleby, 79, of 5724 Second St., died Monday, Feb. 17, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa.
Born Oct. 29, 1917, in Light Street, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Harriet Johnson Ivey.
She was a 1938 graduate of Scott Township High School.
She was employed as an auditor by Chambersburg Hospital, retiring in 1983 after 28 years.
She also had worked as an operator for the Bell Telephone Co., Bloomsburg, Pa.
She was a member of Chambersburg Bible Church, Chambersburg.
She also was a member of Chambersburg Hospital Auxiliary and was a volunteer for Chambersburg Hospital and Meals on Wheels.
She played the organ at First Baptist Church, Chambersburg.
She also enjoyed traveling and camping.
She is survived by her husband, Hilburt C. Umpleby, whom she married Feb. 4, 1939; three daughters, Joanne H. Snyder of Waynesboro, Sallie L. Wagner and Betty A. Umpleby, both of Chambersburg; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister.
Services will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg.
The Rev. John R. Springer and the Rev. David W. Kraft will officiate.
Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Martha A. D. Ahern
DENVER - Martha A. Donegan Ahern, 76, of Denver, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 1997, at Life Care Center in Aurora, Colo.
Born Feb. 17, 1920, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Michael L. and Mary B. Donegan.
She attended St. Mary's High School and St. Joseph Nursing School in Baltimore.
She is survived by her husband, Eugene F. Ahern; two daughters, Denise M. Sternberg of Nebraska, and Christine M. Brown of Denver; three sons, Kevin E. Ahern of Dhubi, United Arab Emirates, Terrance G. Ahern of Denver and John D. Ahern of St. Cloud, Fla.; three sisters, Mary Howe of Fayetteville, Pa., Lucille Livingood of Orlando, and Margaret Plume of Bel Air, Md.; two brothers, Michael Donegan of Hagerstown and Charles Donegan of Hancock; 10 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Jane Donegan; and one brother, Thomas Donegan.
Services were held at Church of Risen Christ in Denver.
Burial was in Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
