A. Grace K. Gilbert
MONT ALTO, Pa. - A. Grace Kauffman Gilbert, 89, of 3 Park St., died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Oct. 29, 1907, in Mont Alto, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Eliza Jane "Jennie" Wile Kauffman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul L. Gilbert, on April 25, 1974. They were married on June 30, 1927.
She was employed by the Mont Alto Shirt Factory. She also had driven a school bus.
She attended Wesley United Methodist Church, Mont Alto, where she was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class.
She was a Democratic chairwoman for Franklin County, Pa.
She is survived by one daughter, Noreen G. Verdier of Mont Alto; one son, Tommy B. Gilbert of Mont Alto; one brother, Charles R. Kauffman of Waynesboro, Pa.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Beryl Keefer; and three brothers, Earl Kauffman, John Kauffman and Ennis Kauffman.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Robert L. Basom will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mont Alto.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Katherine V. McCauley
Katherine Virginia McCauley, 86, of 12035 Sherwood Drive, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 1997, at Homewood Retirement Center, Williamsport.
Born Jan. 7, 1911, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Edgar L. and Carrie F. Bovey Adams.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Lee McCauley, on March 6, 1992. They were married on Sept. 4, 1942.
She was a member of Hagerstown Church of the Brethren.
She is survived by one daughter, Joyce E. Moser of West Lafayette, Ind.; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Helen M. Parrett.
Services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Dean M. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Catherine B. Rowe
Catherine B. Rowe, 83, of Colton Villa Nursing Center, and formerly of the Bronx, N.Y., died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1997, in Hagerstown.
Born Feb. 11, 1914, in Beaver Creek, she was the daughter of the late George and Gussie Malone Snively.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Joseph Rowe, in January 1986.
She attended Beaver Creek School and North Street School.
She was employed as a buyer in the retail industry.
She was a member of Second Christian Church.
She also was a member of North End Senior Citizens.
She is survived by one stepsister, Pauletta Tryman of Hagerstown; and one stepbrother, James Tryman of New Jersey.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lela Davis and Mary Keyes; and two brothers, Clyde Snively and Russell Snively.
Services will be held Saturday at noon at Second Christian Church. The Rev. Rose Ann Duckett will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received Saturday at 11 a.m. at the church.

Anne E. Clopper
WILLIAMSPORT - Anne Elizabeth Clopper, 87, of Williamsport Nursing Home and formerly of Clear Spring, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born Oct. 3, 1909, in Dry Run, Md., she was the daughter of the late David Albert and Mary Esther Rubeck Bloyer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Clopper, in 1980.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Broadfording Church of the Brethren.
She is survived by one son, J. Gilbert Clopper of Lanham, Md.; one stepson, Clarence L. Clopper of Hagerstown; and step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two stepdaughters, Frances I. Miller and Madeline L. Rohrer; one stepson, Robert W. Clopper; two sisters, Rhuie G. Kesselring and Mary G. Spangler; two brothers, Gernerd C. Bloyer and John R. Bloyer; one step-grandchild and one step-great-grandchild.
Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home, 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Leon R. Yoder will officiate. Burial will be in Blairsvalley Cemetery, Clear Spring.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Charles R. Gehr Jr.
Charles Roman Gehr Jr., 75, of 11410 Englewood Road, Hagerstown, who died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1997, is survived by his wife Nancy Ann Harbaugh Gehr, whom he married on March 14, 1947.
Arthur H. Flook
SMITHSBURG - Arthur Henry Flook, 84, of 110 S. Main St., died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born May 5, 1912, in Trego, he was the son of the late William Henry and Manda Catherine Haynes Flook.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Rachel Flook, in 1992.
He retired in 1991 from Jacques Orchard, Edgemont.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
He was a member of Black Rock Bible Church.
He is survived by three daughters, Alice M. Kline and Martha M. Benner, both of Smithsburg, and Joanie L. Sanders of Waynesboro, Pa.; four sons, Robert Lee Benner, Charles L. Benner and Jerry F. Benner, all of Hagerstown, and Thomas M. Long of Smithsburg; one sister, Mary Holmes of Williamsport; 23 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, one brother and a great-grandson.
Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Paul Heffner and the Rev. Bob Fitz will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Miriam M.M. Nicodemus
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Miriam M. "Mim" Miller Nicodemus, 81, of 4 Mount Vernon Terrace, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born Dec. 12, 1915, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Daniel J. and Ida Bumbaugh Miller.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph H. "Joe" Nicodemus, on Oct. 21, 1996. They were married July 30, 1937.
She was employed as a clerk-typist by Landis Machine Co., retiring after 23 years.
She was a member of St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, Waynesboro.
She also was a member of BPO Elks Lodge 731 Ladies Auxiliary, Waynesboro, and the National AARP.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara N. Stoe of Waynesboro; one son, Scott J. Nicodemus of Harve De Grace, Md.; one brother, Dr. Paul B. Miller of Waynesboro; one nephew; and one cousin.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Gilson E. Miller.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, 12 N. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Thomas J. Hemler will be celebrant. Burial will be in Burns Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
A wake service will be held Sunday at 7:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
Lola M. Barnhart
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Lola M. Barnhart, 76, of 1809 E. Main St., died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born Sept. 28, 1920, near Broadfording, she was the daughter of the late Ernest W. and E. Grace Gallion Barnhart. She was the stepdaughter of Evelyn M. Barnhart of Middletown, Md.
She was a 1938 graduate of Washington Township High School.
She was employed for 37 years by Western Electric Co., Baltimore. Before retiring in 1981, she worked for 10 years as a schedule analyst.
She was of the Protestant faith and was a member of the Germantown Church of God, Cascade.
She also was a member of the Telephone Company Pioneer Club.
In addition to her stepmother, she is survived by one sister, Geraldine Barnhart of Waynesboro; two brothers, Edgar Barnhart of Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., and Eugene Barnhart of Middletown; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Lena E. Pryor.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor Walter A. Stuart will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel Church Cemetery, Cascade.
The family will receive friends Monday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Gladys F. Laird
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Gladys F. Laird, 77, of Menno Haven Nursing Home, Chambersburg, and formerly of 8 Hemlock Circle, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born April 8, 1919, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Carry McLaughin Laird.
Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. Pastor Cleon Nice will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg.
Viewing will be Saturday one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
