Orville W. Duvall
CRYSTAL SPRING, Pa. - Orville W. Duvall, 93, of R.D. 1, Box 66, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 1997, at his home.
Born Sept. 7, 1903, in Akersville, Pa., he was the son of the late Roy O. and Rhetta Duvall.
He was the former director of Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, Pa.; First National Bank, McConnellsburg; and school director of Warfordsburg School. He was a former Fulton County Commissioner. He was a lifelong dairy farmer in Bush Creek Township, Pa.
He was a member of Akersville Methodist Church, Akersville, Pa.
He also was a member of Everett Lodge 524; Harrisburg Consistory; and Jaffa Temple, Altoona, Pa.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Jackson Duvall, whom he married Sept. 22, 1926; six daughters, Wilma Kint, Eleanor Fischer, Sarah Duvall and Jean Duvall, all of Crystal Spring, Esther Swab of Harrisburg, Pa., and Doris Bell of Ephrata, Pa.; four sons, Clair Duvall of Crystal Spring, Orville Duvall Jr. of Phoenix, Stiles Duvall of Harrisonville, Pa., and Lawson Duvall of Everett, Pa; four sisters, Mabel Barkman of Three Springs, Pa., Retha Spade of Crystal Spring, Mildred Rohm and Glendora Imes, both of Florida; 28 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, one son, five brothers, and two grandchildren.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call Saturday from 4 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Harrisonville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Food Basket, Woodside Drive, McConnellsburg, Pa. 17228; or to the charity of the donor's choice.
Peggy J.L. Payson
HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Peggy Jean Long Payson, 37, of Harpers Ferry, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1997, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Born March 15, 1959, in Ranson, she was the daughter of Shirley Cogle Long of Harpers Ferry, and the late Charles Grover Long.
She was of the Methodist faith.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Stephen S. Payson; one daughter, Leslie Ann Long of Ranson; one son, Michael Ryan Long of Harpers Ferry; two sisters, Teresa Gail Ott and Melissa Ann Lenhart, both of Harpers Ferry; and four brothers, Charles William Long, Warren Scott Long, Dennis Craig Long and Kevin Lee Long, all of Harpers Ferry.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Murrill Hill United Methodist Church, Murrill Hill, W.Va. The Rev. Henry L. Fisher and the Rev. Ronald L. Nick will officiate. Burial will be in Murrill Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry.
Thelma R. Plotner
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Thelma Rebecca "Becky" Plotner, 74, of Route 6, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1997, at her home under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born March 11, 1922, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles R. Smith and Roxie Nevel Smith Holton.
She was employed as a seasonal worker by the National Fruit Products Co. for many years, until it closed in 1985.
She was a member of the Johnsontown Church of the Brethren.
She is survived by her husband, Orville L. Plotner; two daughters, Lyndell L. Long of Hedgesville and J. Faye Gregory of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one son, Terry D. Plotner of Hedgesville; one sister, Frances Stouter of Emmitsburg, Md.; one brother, Charles S. Smith of Martinsburg; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Amanda Smith; and four brothers, Ringgold Holton, John Holton, George Holton and Bobby Holton.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Oliver N. Custer will officiate. Burial will be in Snyder's Cemetery, Morgan County, W.Va.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

John R. Cloud
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - John R. "Calvin" Cloud, 77, of Route 5, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1997, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg.
Born Dec. 18, 1919, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Howard N. and Ida Gertrude Kerns Cloud.
He retired after 30 years at Martin Marietta.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II.
He was a life member of Newton D. Baker, Post 896, VFW. He was a musician.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie J. Taylor Cloud; three daughters, Donna M. Taylor of Fort Worth, Texas, Lisa R. Miller of Burke, Va., and Michele L. Cloud of Martinsburg; two sons, John R. Cloud of Winchester, Va., and Jason H. Cloud of Martinsburg; one sister, Eva F. Rickel of Martinsburg; one brother, Tyson B. Cloud of Martinsburg; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn Armbrester; and two brothers, Theodore Cloud and Virles Cloud.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
Burial will be private in Rosedale Cemetery.
Marshall D. Plotner
KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - Marshall D. Plotner, 72, of Rt. 2, died Friday, Feb. 21, 1997, at his home, under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born Oct. 20, 1924, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Herman D. and Lottie Bowers Plotner.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lee Gletner Plotner, on Oct. 24, 1996.
He was a graduate of Hedgesville High School, Hedgesville, W.Va.
He retired from Ryder Trucking Industry.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II.
He was a member of the Brotherhood of Teamsters union; Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 4179; BPO Elks 778, USA; Berkeley Post 14, American Legion; Newton D. Baker Post 896, VFW.; and Martinsburg Lodge 120, Loyal Order of Moose.
He is survived by two daughters, Marsha L. DeHaven and Jackie I. Hansrote, both of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one son, Roger D. Plotner of Martinsburg; two sisters, Geraldine Laing of Hedgesville and Dollie Orsini of Inwood, W.Va.; four brothers, Orville L. Plotner of Hedgesville, Herman Watson Plotner of Inwood, Hayward L. Plotner and Donald P. Plotner, both of Martinsburg; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Marshall "Kim" Plotner; one grandson, Troy Plotner; two sisters, Imogene Rhoe and Madeline Wood; and one brother, Victor Plotner.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Hedgesville Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Bishop will officiate.

Sophie Ransenberg
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Sophie Ransenberg, 87, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 1997, at Heartland Nursing Home.
Born March 13, 1909, in Kirchheim, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Leopold and Babette Bach Kohlman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Julius Ransenberg.
She came to the United States in 1938, to escape the Holocaust.
She is survived by her nephew, Paul S. Levie of Martinsburg, whom she brought to the U.S. from Germany; and one grandnephew, Paul M. R. Levie of Inwood, W.Va.
Services and burial will be private.
Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
Marguerite T. White
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Marguerite Thompson White, 74, of Berkeley Springs, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 1997, at her home.
Born March 13, 1922, in Baker Township, Guthrie County, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Lee and Mabel Katherine McGiveney Thompson.
She was a graduate of Guthrie Center High School, Guthrie Center, Iowa.
She moved to Washington, D.C., in 1941 and was employed by the U.S. Government at the Pentagon until 1950.
She also was employed in the personnel department at the corporate headquarters of Peoples Drug Stores, Springfield, Va., during the 1960s.
She moved from Landover, Md., to Berkeley Springs in 1979 and was a homemaker.
She was of the Lutheran faith.
She is survived by her husband of 46 1/2 years, Robert Charles White Sr.; two sons, Robert C. White Jr. of Middleburg, Va., and Richard T. White of Berkeley Springs; six sisters, Naomi McCorkle of Alexandria, Va., Ruth Salmi of College Park, Md., Jean Tollinger of Tampa, Fla., Roberta Platt of Ogden, Iowa, Lee Vixie of Flint, Mich., and Joe Reiber of Yuba City, Calif.; one brother, Richard T. Thompson of Krebs, Okla., and many nieces and nephews.
Services and burial will be private.

Helen E. Kling
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Helen E. Kling, 84, of Manor Care Health Service, and formerly of Spring Run, Pa., died Friday, Feb. 21, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born March 31, 1912, in Longstown, York County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Walter I. and Sarah Welty Kauffman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George L. Kling, on Oct. 3, 1986.
She was a member of the Spring Run United Methodist Church. She was a former Sunday school and Bible school teacher and served on the administrative council, pastor relations, health and welfare, home department and the United Methodist Women of that church.
She is survived by five daughters, Betty Campbell of Doylesburg, Pa., Shirley Morton of Spring Run, Sara Frowen of Latrobe, Pa., Jane Clayton of Amberson, Pa., and Georgia Himes of Clear Spring; one brother, the Rev. Gerald D. Kauffman of Carlisle, Pa.; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at John L. Agett Funeral Home, Dry Run, Pa. The Revs. Gerald D. Kauffman and Karl R. Herman will officiate. Burial will be in Upper Path Valley Cemetery, Dry Run.
There will be no viewing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
