Charles A. Long
Charles A. Long, 91, formerly of 136 Ray St., Hagerstown, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 1997, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home, Hagerstown.
Born Nov. 29, 1905, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Abraham and Lula E. Nalley Long.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Marks Long, in 1983.
He retired from Columbia Gas Co.
He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
He is survived by one sister, Mildred L. Yates of Hagerstown; two nieces; and one nephew.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Dennis L. Upton will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday 30 minutes prior to the service.
Louella E. Snook
Louella Evers Snook, 84, of 234 S. Mulberry St., Hagerstown, died Monday, Feb. 24, 1997, at Colton Villa Nursing Home, Hagerstown.
Born Aug. 10, 1912, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late David W. and Susanna Strike Strike.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Snook Sr., in 1983.
She was retired from Maryland Ribbon Co. and also had been employed by Fairchild Aircraft.
She was a charter member of Grace United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Constance Moore of Smithsburg and Gwen Snook of Hagerstown; one son, Charles W. Snook Jr. of Clear Spring; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Ira Strike.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown. The Rev. Darryl C. Zoller will officiate.
There will be no viewing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, Church and Winter streets, Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Edmond E. Jackson
Edmond E. Jackson, 70, formerly of 510 N. Mulberry St., Hagerstown, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Nov. 26, 1926, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late John E. and Nellie V. Shoemaker Jackson.
He was a retired electronic repairman.
He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific.
He is survived by three brothers, Wilfred C. Jackson and Silas S. Jackson, both of Hagerstown, and John C. Jackson of Greencastle, Pa.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Viola M. Davis.
Services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. David L. Coblentz will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
Visitation will be at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m.
Mabel V. Acker
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Mabel V. Acker, 78, of 1510 Siloam Road, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born May 25, 1918, in Maple Grove, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles C. and Bessie G. Stepler Shields.
She was employed by the former Tracy Fashions in Chambersburg for 26 years, retiring in 1980. During World War II, she worked for five years at Bethlehem-Fairfield Shipyard in Baltimore.
She was a member of King Street United Brethren Church, Chambersburg.
She was a member of Chambersburg Chapter of Independent Ladies Garment Worker's Union, and was the organization's president for several years. She was a former chairwoman of her shop at the former Tracy Fashions. She helped at Toy Mission in Chambersburg. She bowled in a league with coworkers at Tracy Fashions.
She enjoyed gardening, traveling and hunting wild mushrooms.
She is survived by her husband, Glen O. Acker, whom she married on Aug. 22, 1936; one son, Larry G. Acker of St. Thomas, Pa.; one sister, Florence Furry of Chambersburg; three granddaughters, Sheree L. Smith and Caroline R. Lensbower, both of Chambersburg, and Lori A. Jones of Athens, Ala., all of whom she raised; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.
Services will be Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Patrick B. Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Upper Strasburg Methodist Cemetery, Upper Strasburg, Pa.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Charles F. Smith
Charles F. "Peachie" Smith, 60, of 946 St. Clair St., Hagerstown, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Oct. 24, 1936, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Robert E. and Catherine V. Rife Smith.
He retired from McClearly and Earley Construction Co. of Hagerstown.
He is survived by his wife, Vera M. Whitmore Smith; one daughter, Justina M. Oden of Smithsburg; two sons, Charles F. Smith Jr. and Robert E. Smith, both of Hagerstown; two sisters, Delores Buhrman of Chambersburg, Pa., and Beverly Oyler of Hagerstown; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter.
Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. John W. Schildt will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

Carol L. Rose
Carol Lynne Rose, 51, of Hagerstown, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.
Born July 12, 1945, in Ironton, Ohio, she was the daughter of Raymond and Patricia Adams Bailey of South Point, Ohio.
She was a graduate of South Point High School. She received a degree from Marshall University, Huntington, W.Va.
She was associated with Chesapeake Interlink in Owings Mills, Md., as a certified public accountant and a computer instructor.
She was of the Methodist faith.
She was a member of Association of CPAs in West Virginia and Maryland.
She was a blood and bone marrow donor.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by one sister, Janet E. Bailey of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; one brother, Raymond C. Bailey of South Point; one niece; and one nephew.
A memorial service will be held today at 4 p.m. at New Street United Methodist Church, Shepherdstown, W.Va. The Rev. Keith Keidel will officiate. Burial will be private.
There will be no visitation.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Frederick E. Baker
GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Frederick Edward Baker, 76, of Greencastle, died Monday, Feb. 24, 1997, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Jan. 27, 1921, in Clear Spring, he was the son of the late Andrew Baker and Goldie Kidweller Baker.
He retired from Fairchild Industries, Hagerstown.
A veteran of the Korean War, he served with the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Lanes Run Church of God, Clear Spring.
He was known for his restoration of antique Victrolas and owned and operated Baker's Antiques.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys I. Tosten Baker; three daughters, Pat G. Eyler of Shepherdstown, W.Va., Linda M. Schmidt of Burbank, Calif., and Dianna M. Burton of Clear Spring; two sons, William Baker of Chambersburg, Pa., and Frederick Baker of Clear Spring; one sister, Goldie Bowman of Hagerstown; one brother, Gus Baker of Clear Spring; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home, 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Carl Harpers and Donald Mullin will officiate. Burial will be in Welsh Run Cemetery, Greencastle. Military graveside honors will be conducted by Clear Spring American Legion Post 202.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from noon until the 2 p.m. service.
Betty L. Spring
GREAT CACAPON, W.Va. - Betty L. Spring, 68, of Great Cacapon, died Monday, Feb. 24, 1997, at Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
Born April 14, 1928, in Great Cacapon, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Harvey W. and Laura A. Rockwell Kidwell.
She attended Great Cacapon public schools.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Great Cacapon.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Warren Harding Spring; one son, Wayne Keith Spring of Great Cacapon; one brother, Earl Kidwell of Bakerton, W.Va.; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Odessa Farris; and one brother, Lester Kidwell.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Nebo Cemetery, Great Cacapon. Pastor Roger E. Burtner will officiate.
