HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Shirley Earnest Smith, 59, of Harpers Ferry, died Saturday, March 1, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.
Born June 15, 1937, in North Tazewell, Va., she was the daughter of the late Gaylord Thomas Earnest Sr. and Cora Lynch Earnest.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Givens Funeral Home, 110 Woodrum St., Pearisburg.
The Rev. Bobby Perkins will officiate.
Burial will be in Birch Lawn Cemetery, Pearisburg.
The family will receive friends at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry, today from 7 to 9 p.m. and at Givens Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Wesley C. Whitmer
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Wesley Colville Whitmer, 91, of Shepherdstown, died Saturday, March 1, 1997, at his home.
Born Oct. 15, 1905, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Charles Wesley and Julia B. Ruse Whitmer.
A memorial service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, W.Va.
The Rev. Alice Thornton will officiate.
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Shepherdstown.
There will be no visitation.

Ronald L. Howell
HARRISONVILLE, Pa. - Ronald L. Howell, 53, of Harrisonville, died Saturday, March 1, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa.
Born June 17, 1943, in Big Cove Tannery, Pa., he was the son of Grace Fox Howell of Harrisonville and the late Hartford Howell.
He was a self-employed carpenter.
He also was a sign painter.
He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Church of the Nazarene, Harrisonville.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by one daughter, Susanne Bohrer of Warfordsburg, Pa.; two sons, Tony Howell of Hagerstown and Kelly Howell of Needmore, Pa.; five sisters, Dorothy Peck of McConnellsburg, Pa., Marie Stevens and Alice Myers, both of Chambersburg, Peggy Wagner of Harrisonville and Bonnie Mills of Greencastle, Pa.; one brother, Robert Howell of Chambersburg; and one grandson.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Church of the Nazarene, Harrisonville.
The Rev. Dan Porterfield will officiate.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., Harrisonville, Tuesday from 2 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Ruth C. Keefer
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Ruth C. Keefer, 93, a resident of Franklin County Nursing Home, and formerly of Marion, Pa., died Friday, Feb. 28, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born June 10, 1903, in Guilford Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Emma K. Stull.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Heidelberg United Church of Christ, Colorado Street, Marion.
The Rev. John D. Bonebrake will officiate.
Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Marion.
Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service Tuesday.

Clarence L. Rotz
FORT LOUDON, Pa. - Clarence L. Rotz, 77, of 13740 Rosenberry Drive, and formerly of 4744 Lincoln Way West, St. Thomas, Pa., died Friday, Feb. 28, 1997, at Penn Hall Nursing Center, Chambersburg, Pa.
Born Feb. 12, 1920, in St. Thomas, he was the son of the late Roy J. and Mary Musselman Rotz.
He was employed for five years by Pennsylvania Department of Highways.
For 12 years, he operated a farm on Lincoln Way West.
He was last employed by Corning Glass Works, Greencastle, Pa., where he worked for more than 17 years.
He retired in 1979 due to poor health.
He was a member of Brandt's Church of the Brethren of St. Thomas.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Heckman Rotz, whom he married on June 1, 1946; one daughter, Darlene R. Miley of St. Thomas; four sisters, Anna Dentler and Mabel Gearhart, both of Greencastle, Agnes Shatzer of Chambersburg, and Irene Newman of Centerline, Mich.; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Wayne L. Rotz.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Brandt's Church of the Brethren, St. Thomas.
The Rev. Rick E. Hostetter and the Rev. Charles R. Martin will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery.
Visitation will be at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg, Pa., today from 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church Tuesday.

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. - Phyllis Rae Green, 60, of 619 Apple Drive, died Friday, Feb. 28, 1997, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill, Pa.
Born June 2, 1936, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of M. Louise Smith Fisher of Chambersburg and the late Joe W. Fisher.
Services will be Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg.
Robert Heiser will officiate.
Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Annie E. Beitzel
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Annie E. Beitzel, 99, of Menno-Haven Nursing Home, and formerly of 1120 Lincoln Way East, died Friday, Feb. 28, 1997, at Menno-Haven.
Born Nov. 27, 1897, in Cumberland County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late James and Lucinda Miller Boyer.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle, Pa.
The Rev. Linda James will officiate.
There will be no viewing.

Wilbur D. Moats
MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Wilbur D. "Web" Moats, 63, of 11991 Mercersburg Road, died Sunday, March 2, 1997, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.
Born Jan. 19, 1934, in Hancock, he was the son of the late John R. and Mary Ellen Miller Moats.
He worked for the former Fry Coal and Stone Company of Mercersburg, as a truck driver.
He retired from Mack Trucks Inc. of Hagerstown in 1990, after 28 1/2 years of service as a truck driver.
He also owned and operated Wilbur's Watches and Gifts for 18 years, which was located at his home.
He was a member of UAW Local 171 of Hagerstown, Harry Lackhove American Legion Post 517 of Mercersburg, Mercersburg Moose Lodge 1790, Mercersburg Sportsmans Association, Fulton County Sportsmans League, NRA, and Men of the Mountain of Fort Loudon, Pa.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy C. McLucas Moats, whom he married Sept. 22, 1961; three sisters, Imogene Mowen of Hagerstown, Mildred Burkett and Wilma Kennedy, both of Greencastle, Pa.; and one brother, John Moats of Hagerstown.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Evangeline Johnson and Shirley Dreisbach; and one brother, Donald Moats.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg.
The Rev. Roy E. Brake Sr. will officiate.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Mercersburg.
A viewing will be held at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
