Charles W. Hoffman Jr.
Charles William Hoffman Jr., 73, of 13243 Fountain Head Road, Hagerstown, died Sunday, March 2, 1997, at his home.
Born Dec. 25, 1923, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Charles William Hoffman Sr. and Louise Watson Moore.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Carol Hoffman, in 1963.
He was a graduate of Augusta Military Academy.
He was a decorated veteran who served in the U.S. Army, 42nd Calvary Armored Reconnaissance Division, during the World War II Pacific campaign.
He was a long-time owner and president of Hoffman Chevrolet Inc., until his retirement in 1993.
He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church.
He was a member of BPO Elks Lodge 378, Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion, Hagerstown Power Squadron and Marina Point Yacht Club.
He was past president and board member of Fountain Head Country Club, a past president and member of Washington County Auto Dealers Association and was active in the Washington County Soap Box Derby.
He also provided vehicles for the Washington County Board of Education Driver Education Program.
He was an avid boater and race car owner, sponsor and enthusiast.
He is survived by three daughters, Cynthia L. Hoffman, Carol H. Bond and Kristen L. Creek, all of Hagerstown; two sons, Charles William Hoffman III and Robert L. Hoffman, both of Hagerstown; one sister, Elizabeth H. Stalnaker of Virginia Beach, Va.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.
The Rev. Kenneth J. Dorsch will officiate.
Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Elizabeth A. Malankowski
WILLIAMSPORT - Elizabeth Agnes Malankowski, 84, formerly of 271 Western Highway, Tappan, N.Y., died Sunday, March 2, 1997, at Williamsport Retirement Village.
Born Dec. 25, 1912, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late John F. and Victoria Ptasinska Sikorski.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Anthony John Malankowski Sr., in 1996.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Tappan, where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society, Legion of Mary and the choir.
She also was a member of Ladies of Charity.
She volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels and visited the ailing nuns at the Dominican Infirmary in Blauvelt, N.Y.
She is survived by four daughters, Virginia McFadden of Walden, N.Y., Gloria Weisz of Hagerstown, Alice Herrell of Portland, Ore., and Blanche Malankowski Smith of Oakland, Calif.; one son, Anthony J. Malankowski Jr. of Tappan; three sisters, Alice Pujdak of Old Bethpage, N.Y., Margaret Kuber of Brooklyn, and Clara Piasecki of Somerset, N.J.; two brothers, Thomas Sikorski of Scotch Plains, N.J., and John Sikorski of Pasadena, Md.; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Tappan.
The Rev. John Dwyer will be celebrant.
Burial will be in Rockland Cemetery, Sparkhill, N.Y.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Moritz Funeral Home, 290 Route 303, Tappan.

BOLIVAR, W.Va. - Eleanor Grace Wines, 54, of 1340 Washington St., died Sunday, March 2, 1997, at her home.
Born June 4, 1942, in Martinsburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of Harry Wesley Ott and Velma Butler Ott of Bolivar.
She was a graduate of Harpers Ferry (W.Va.) High School.
For many years, she was a child-care provider in her home.
She was a member of Bolivar International Pentecostal Church of Christ.
She was a Sunday school teacher for more than 20 years.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Raymond "Gene" Wines; one daughter, Angela Hill of Kearneysville, W.Va.; four sisters, Nancy Palmer, Mary Harper and Darlene Ott, all of Bolivar, and Sharon Dockeney of Middleway, W.Va.; one brother, Rodney Ott of Tuscawilla Hills, W.Va.; and one granddaughter.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Bolivar International Pentecostal Church of Christ, Bolivar.
The Rev. B.G. Turner, the Rev. Sam Miller and the Rev. Franklin Myers will officiate.
Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.

Sally F.W.B. Wild
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Sally Frances Weakley Baker Wild, 83, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, March 2, 1997, at Heartland Nursing Home, Martinsburg.
Born May 21, 1913, in Madison, Va., she was the daughter of the late William H. and Lula B. Gallehue Weakley.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles L. Baker Sr.
She retired from Eyerly's.
She was a member of Christ Reformed Church.
She was a member of Golden Rule Chapter 69 Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband, Julian L. Wild; two daughters, Betty L. Taylor and Mary Frances DeGrange, both of Martinsburg; one son, Charles L. Baker Jr. of Martinsburg; one stepdaughter, Betty Anne Bornstein; one stepson, Thomas A. Wild; two brothers, Harry A. Weakley of Martinsburg and Earl W. Weakley of Miami; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Willia B. Acree, Carrie Lee Hawkins, Savilla Painter and Rebecca Fulk; and one brother, Cornell Henry Weakley.
Services will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg.

Scott J. Newton
FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Scott John Newton, 67, of Falling Waters, died Sunday, March 2, 1997, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Jan. 29, 1930, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Scott and Anna Griffiton Newton.
He was a major in the Army National Guard before retiring after 41 years of service.
He was a government management supervisor for the National Guard Bureau, Department of the Army.
He was a member of the Vienna Moose 1896 and American Legion Post 200.
He is survived by his wife, Deloris J. Geiger Newton; one daughter, Ilene O'Shell of Virginia; one son, Bruce Newton of Virginia; one stepdaughter, Desiri Earle of Maryland; one stepson, Todd Bruce of Virginia; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg.
The Rev. Lon Snelson will officiate.
Burial will be held Wednesday, March 12, at 11 a.m. at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Charles Walter Evans, 78, of 2589 Henry Road, died Monday, March 3, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born May 1, 1918, in St. Thomas, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles F. and Elsie Brandt Evans.
He retired in 1983 from the former United Telephone Co.
He was a veteran of World War II who served with the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Mainsville United Brethren Church.
He is survived by his wife, Violet N. Black Evans; two daughters, Kay B. McKenrick of Shippensburg, Pa., and Barbara A. Brookens of Chambersburg; three sons, Kenneth E. Berrier of Blain, Pa., Stephen W. Evans of Chester, Vt., and Mark C. Evans of Chambersburg; three sisters, Genevieve L. Shearer, June L. Reese, and Glenda M. Hamilton, all of Shippensburg; one brother James J. Evans of Chambersburg; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
Services will be Thursday, at 3:30 p.m. at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., 112 W. King St., Shippensburg.

Catherine A. Arnsparger
Catherine A. Arnsparger, 86, of 39 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, died Monday, March 3, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 23, 1911, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Clifford Vinton and Mary Elizabeth Hoover Harbaugh.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley W. Arnsparger, in 1980.
She owned and operated Catherine's Beauty Salon and retired in 1994.
She was a member of Christ's Reformed Church U.C.C. and was very active in church work.
She is survived by two brothers, Paul E. Harbaugh and Lester V. Harbaugh, both of Hagerstown; one niece; and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Roy W. Harbaugh.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Christ's Reformed Church U.C.C., 130 W. Franklin St., Hagerstown.
The Rev. Don R. Stevenson will officiate.
Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Nancy D. Erler, 60, of 119 Crider Ave., died Sunday, March 2, 1997, at her home.
Born Oct. 23, 1936, in Monessen, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Earl E. and Genevieve M. Browneller Deutsch.
She was a 1954 graduate of West Newton High School, West Newton, Pa.
She was formerly employed as secretary to the treasurer by West Penn Power Co. in Cabin Hill, Pa.
She also was formerly employed as secretary of placement service by Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah.
She was a member of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints, Chambersburg, Pa.
She was a primary teacher at the church.
She also was secretary of Stake Relief Society, a counselor in Chambersburg First Ward Relief Society Presidency, librarian of Chambersburg Ward and a counselor in Young Women's Organization.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth J. Erler, whom she married on May 3, 1958; five daughters, Jamie L. Bowers and Staci L. Rezler, both of Salt Lake City, Utah, Heidi L. Heil of Willard, Utah, Shannon R. Erler and Courtney S. Erler, both of Fayetteville, Pa.; three sons, Kevin B. Erler, Greg D. Erler and Mark R. Erler, all of Chambersburg; one sister, Dolores Moser of Uniontown, Pa.; one brother, Robert E. Deutsch of West Newton; and 18 grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 50 Ragged Edge Road, Chambersburg.
Bishop Roger Miller will officiate.
Burial will be in Quincy Cemetery, Quincy, Pa.
