James L. Michael Sr.
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - James Leroy Michael Sr., 59, of Berkeley Springs, died Tuesday, March 4, 1997, at Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs.
Born Dec. 8, 1937, in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Robert Darwin and Carrie Delores Weber Michael.
He was a 1955 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School.
He formerly worked at Funk's Feed Store, Hancock.
He worked for Potomac Edison for 38 years, retiring in 1996 as a corporate billing analyst.
He was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.
He attended Calvary United Methodist Church, Great Cacapon, W.Va., where he was a trustee and a Sunday school teacher for many years.
He was a Boy Scout Leader in the late 1960s and 1970s.
He had been president of the Morgan County Planning Commission; was a member of AARP; was past master and past secretary of Deford Lodge 88 A.F.&A.M., Berkeley Springs; was past venerable master of the Martinsburg Lodge of Perfection; knight commander of the Court of Honor, Martinsburg Scottish Rite Consistory; and assistant to the treasurer of the Grand Lodge of West Virginia.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Jane Hofe Michael; one daughter, Pamela G. Gloyd of Berkeley Springs; three sons, James L. "Mike" Michael Jr. and Jeffrey B. Michael, both of Berkeley Springs and Gregory A. Michael of Sterling, Va.; four sisters, Ruby Kerns and Hilda Cole, both of Berkeley Springs, and Beatrice Davis and Lois Hamilton, both of Warren, Ohio; one brother, Robert D. Michael of Martinsburg; six grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs.
Pastor Roger E. Burtner will officiate.
Burial, with masonic graveside rites by Deford Lodge 88 A.F.&A.M., will be in Spohrs Crossroads Cemetery.
Master masons will assemble at the lodge hall at 1 p.m. Friday.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the convenience of friends.

Helen M. Etter
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Helen M. Etter, 69, of 1925 Salem Road, died Wednesday, March 5, 1997, at University Hospital, Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa.
Born Aug. 22, 1927, in Greene Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Frank L. and Bessie Bollinger Etter.
She was a 1949 graduate of Penn State University, State College, Pa.
She was employed by Shippensburg University, Shippensburg, Pa., retiring after 22 years.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, she served during the Korean War.
She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Chambersburg, where she was a member of Willing Workers Sunday School Class.
She also was a member of the church bowling team.
She was a volunteer at the Chambersburg YMCA.
She is survived by her close friend and housekeeper, Linda Wiltbank of South Mountain, Pa., and cousins.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Salem United Methodist Church, 2115 Salem Road, Chambersburg.
The Rev. Mark A. Hagy will officiate.
Burial will be in the Salem Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Chambersburg.
Viewing will be held Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Edward L. Hunter, 80, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, March 4, 1997, at Heartland Nursing Home.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.

Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.

Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church.

Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
City Hospital volunteers will meet 30 minutes prior to the service on Saturday.
The casket will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Carlton W. Lewis Sr.
FREDERICK, Md. - Carlton W. Lewis Sr., 69, of 7958 McKaig Road, died Tuesday, March 4, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 23, 1927, in Crellin, Md., he was the son of the late Harold T. and Mary Frances Wilt Lewis.
He retired as a first lieutenant from the Maryland State Police. He also retired from EG&G.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served with the Seebees during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy J. Lewis; three daughters, Carla J. Lewis of Frederick, Jeanne K. Lewis of New Windsor, Md., and Krista L. Appleby of Panama; two sons, Carlton W. Lewis Jr. of Hagerstown and William S. Lewis of Walkersville, Md.; one sister, Louise Hoffman of Cresaptown, Md.; and six grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held privately at a later date.
There will be no visitation.
