CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - James A. McCurdy, 77, of 2045 Leafmore Road, died Tuesday, March 4, 1997, at his home.
Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. The Rev. Warren Heintzelman and the Rev. Daniel Kelchner will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery.

Barbara F. Margolin
ATLANTA - Barbara F. Margolin, 76, of Atlanta, died Tuesday, March 4, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Services will be held Thursday at J. Avery Bryan Funeral Home, Chattanooga, Tenn. Burial will be in the Bnai Zion Cemetery, Chattanooga.
Local arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
Ralph L. Beard Jr.
Ralph L. Beard Jr., 73, of 124 Wayside Ave., Hagerstown, died Thursday, March 6, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Feb. 5, 1924, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Ralph L. and Charlotte K. May Beard.
He was a 24-year employee of Mack Trucks Inc., retiring in 1986.
He was a 50-year member of Otterbein United Methodist Church. He also was a member of the Busy Men's Bible Class.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Palmer Beard; one son, Ralph L. Beard III of Marlowe, W.Va.; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Stephen D. Robison will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Hazel L. Watson
Hazel L. Watson, 74, of Hagerstown, died Thursday, March 6, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Sept. 13, 1922, in Wolfsville, Md., she was the daughter of the late Calvin E. and Ada Alice Lizer Kline.
She was employed as a nurse's aide by Western Maryland Hospital, Hagerstown, retiring in 1992 after 30 years.
She was a member of Christ Fellowship Assembly of God Church, Hagerstown.
She is survived by one daughter, Beverly Scibinico of Elkton, Md.; one son, Garry Watson of Winchester, Va.; one sister, Ruth Flehing of Missouri; one brother, Charles "Lindy" Kline of Smithsburg; and four grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Ricketts Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Myersville, Md. The Rev. Arnold Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Salem United Methodist Cemetery, Wolfsville.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends may call at the funeral home today after noon.

Madeline B. Smith
MAUGANSVILLE - Madeline B. Smith, 83, of Village Mill Drive and formerly of East Main Street, Hancock, died Tuesday, March 4, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Oct. 8, 1913, in Hancock, she was the daughter of the late Oliver and Pleasant Clevenger.
Her husband, Harry D. "Tim" Smith, died in 1988.
She was formerly employed by Jacob Brothers in Hancock for 30 years, where she was an inspector and time keeper.
She was a member of Hancock United Methodist Church in Hancock.
She also was a member of Dixon Troxell Post 211 American Legion Auxiliary in Funkstown.
She is survived by three nieces, Gloria Bohrer of Hagerstown, Delores Yost of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and LaVerne Weller of Germantown, Md.; and one nephew, Warren Robey of Hagerstown.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Lillian Baker, Marguerite Robey and Jessaline Mort.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. The Rev. Robert G. Brennan Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in St. Thomas' Episcopal Cemetery in Hancock.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home which, for the convenience of friends, will be open from 2 to 9 p.m.

Floyd E. Gatrell
SHARPSBURG - Floyd E. "Buck" Gatrell, 72, of 5828 Sharpsburg Pike, died Wednesday, March 5, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born July 9, 1924, in Sharpsburg, he was the son of the late John H. Gatrell and Nannie Lee Writt Gatrell.
He formerly was employed by Western Maryland Railway in Hagerstown as a mason. He retired in 1981 from the National Park Service as chief of maintenance at Antietam National Battlefield.
A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Marine Corps. He saw action in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and received the Purple Heart for a wound received at Iwo Jima.
He was a life member of Christ Reformed United Church of Christ in Sharpsburg.
He was a life member of Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Co. and a member of Antietam Post 236 American Legion in Sharpsburg, Fourth Marine Division Association and AARP.
He is survived by his wife, Doris J. Getridge Gatrell, whom he married July 27, 1947; three daughters, Linda K. Burker, Diana L. Nave and Brenda L. Webber, all of Sharpsburg; one brother, Fred D. Gatrell of Jefferson, Md.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and eight brothers.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Christ Reformed United Church of Christ, Sharpsburg. The Rev. John P. Silassy and the Rev. Gary Getridge will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery in Sharpsburg.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. Friends also may call at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Robert E. Harshman
GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Robert E. Harshman, 73, of 14501 Molly Pitcher Highway South, Greencastle, died Thursday, March 6, 1997, at Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pa.
Born July 20, 1923, in Franklin County Pa., he was the son of the late Aaron and Margaret Hartman Harshman.
He was a retired self-employed truck driver and had been a farmer.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in World War II. He received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart in the D-Day invasion.
He attended Hollowell Brethren in Christ Church near Waynesboro, Pa., and was a member of the Kingdom Builders Sunday School Class.
He was a member of the National AARP.
He is survived by his wife Beulah B. Berger Harshman, whom he married Nov. 26, 1942; one daughter Dianne Kline of Greencastle; one son, Robert E. Harshman Jr. of Grand Blanc, Mich.; two brothers, Alvin "Short" Harshman of Greencastle and Richard Harshman of Chambersburg; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Karen A. Harshman.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. James Sollenberger will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Rhoda E. Benedict
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Rhoda Evangeline Benedict, 76, of 812 Anthony Highway, Waynesboro, died Thursday, March 6, 1997, at her home.
Born Dec. 3, 1920, near Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Irvin P. and Minnie Good Benedict.
She was employed at Waynesboro Knitting Mill and also worked at Waynesboro Hospital in the Laboratory Department.
She was a member of the Antietam District Prices Church.
She is survived by three sisters, Clara L. Benedict and Alice I. Benedict, both of Waynesboro, and Elva F. Benedict of Modesto, Calif.; four brothers, Welty F. Benedict of Greencastle, Pa., D. Marion Benedict of Waynesboro, Harlan G. Benedict of New Franklin, Pa., and Willis P. Benedict of Lapel, Ind.; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother in 1912.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Antietam District Prices Church in Washington Township by the home brethren. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, in Quincy, Pa.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.
