B. Louise Byers, 81, of 531 W. Howard St., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, March 11, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 23, 1915, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles S. and Carrie Lininger Dunlap.
She was employed by Fairchild Aircraft during World War II.
She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Claude B. Byers; one son, Lynn E. Byers of Hagerstown; one brother, Marion Oscar Dunlap of Yuba City, Calif.; one grandson; one niece; and one nephew.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Dennis L. Upton will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
L. Virginia Wooden
INWOOD, W.Va. - L. Virginia Wooden, 84, died Tuesday, March 11, 1997, at her home.
Born March 30, 1912, in Bramwell, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles B. and Fannie Crider Scott.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Wooden.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Russell of Columbus, Ohio; one son, the Rev. Robert Gidney of Inwood; a foster brother, the Rev. Robert Grigsby of Freeman, W.Va.; one grandson; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Restlawn Cemetery, Bluewell, W.Va. The Rev. Robert Grigsby will officiate.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Terry W. DeHaven
OLYPHANT, Pa. - Terry W. DeHaven, 39, of RD 1, Box 531D, died Saturday, March 8, 1997, at Community Medical Center, Scranton, Pa.
Born July 21, 1957, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of Cecil W. DeHaven of Martinsburg and JoAnne E. Shiley of Martinsburg. He was the stepson of M. Kenneth Shiley of Martinsburg.
He was a 1977 graduate of Thomas Johnson High School, Frederick, Md.
He was employed by Fleet Bank.
In addition to his parents and stepfather, he is survived by one daughter, Jennifer L. DeHaven, at home; one son, Christopher L. DeHaven of Uniondale, Pa.; one sister, Tammy R. Geary of Hagerstown; three half-brothers, Michael W. DeHaven of Martinsburg, David S. DeHaven and Martin R. DeHaven, both of Norfolk, Va.; one stepsister, Sherry L. Shiley of Pittsburgh; one stepbrother, Timothy S. Shiley of Jefferson, Md.; his companion, Theresa Herzog; aunts; uncles; cousins; and nieces.
He was preceded in death by one stepsister, Kendra A. Shiley.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Locust Valley Bible Church, 1319 Marker Road, Middletown, Md. The Rev. Carvin Stambaugh will officiate.
A reception will be held after the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Locust Valley Bible Church, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
John J. Palkovitz
MECHANICSBURG, Pa. - John Joseph Palkovitz, 60, of 203 Fox Drive, died Tuesday, March 11, 1997, at his home.
Born Feb. 26, 1937, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Steve and Mary Bauer Palkovitz.
He was a graduate of Hagerstown High School.
He was employed as a truck division manager by Traffic Service Bureau Inc. of Middletown, Md. For 31 years, he was a manager for Hall's Motor Transit.
He was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church, Camp Hill, Pa.
He served on the Hampden Township Civil Service Commission, Mechanicsburg.
He is survived by his wife, Nellie Doarnberger Palkovitz; one daughter, Mary Holland of Mechanicsburg; one son, John Joseph Palkovitz Jr. of Parkton, Md.; one sister, Mary Cordell of Hagerstown; two brothers, I. Joseph Palkovitz and Steve F. Palkovitz, both of Hagerstown; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 3435 Trindle Road, Camp Hill. Inurnment will be in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.
Friends may call Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Myers-Harner Funeral Home, 1903 Market St., Camp Hill, where a rosary will be recited at 8 p.m.

Bernice M. Swope
WILLIAMSPORT - Bernice Maxine Swope, 82, of 14921 Falling Waters Road, died Monday, March 10, 1997, at Coffman Nursing Home, Hagerstown.
Born Sept. 17, 1914, in Downsville, he was the son of the late Howard Raymond and Maude Catherine Houser Betts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Leonard Swope, in 1993.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, June M. Farmer of Big Pool and B. Joanne Snyder of Williamsport; one brother, Elvin D. Betts of Williamsport; five grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; two nieces; and two nephews.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. James E. Swecker will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Elizabeth Thomas Sheets, 95, of Shook Home for the Aged, Chambersburg, and formerly of 442 Ohio Ave., Chambersburg, died Monday, March 10, 1997, at the home.
Born Jan. 27, 1902, in Carlisle, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Ira B. and Georgia Ann Stewart Thomas.
She was a 1920 graduate of Chambersburg High School.
She was involved in the family business, Thomas Pretzel Co., all her life.
She attended Chambersburg Gospel Chapel.
She is survived by one daughter, Martha Hanel of Waverly, Ohio; three sisters, Winifred Stewart and Georgianna T. Etter, both of Chambersburg, and Nellie Hocking of Carlisle; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
Services will be held today at 3:30 p.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. William A. Sheaffer, Charles Hocking and Carl Lininger will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Chambersburg.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Ethel V. Crouse
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Ethel Viola Crouse, 78, of Berkeley Springs, died Monday, March 10, 1997, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs.
Born April 18, 1918, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Melvie Palmer Spielman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Walter Crouse, on July 31, 1961.
She was a homemaker.
She attended Wayside Chapel, Berkeley Springs.
She is survived by two daughters, Shirley A. Waugh and Dorothy V. Bailey, both of Berkeley Springs; one son, Stephen L. Crouse of Berkeley Springs; one sister, Mary L. Avey of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one brother, Fred E. Spielman of Martinsburg; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Hilda Mae Crouse; one son, Coray H. Crouse; two sisters, Stella Everett and Gladys Monday; and two brothers, Belford Spielman and Glen Spielman.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Hennis H. Fox will officiate. Burial will be in Greenway Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
J. Richard McCleary
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - J. Richard McCleary, 70, of 2342 New Franklin Road, died Monday, March 10, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born May 11, 1926, in Guilford Springs, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles R. and Edna Miller McCleary.
He had been employed by Ken Shadle Aluminum Co., Chambersburg, for 25 years.
He was a member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Marion, Pa.
He also was a member of Moose Lodge 842; AARP 1507 Chambersburg; life member of the Marion Fire Co.; Junior Hose Co. 2, Chambersburg; life and charter member of the New Franklin Volunteer Fire Co.; and life and charter member of the New Franklin Ruritan Club, where he received the Tom Downing award in 1991. He was a volunteer for The American Heart Association.
He is survived by one brother, Marlin R. McCleary of Fayetteville, Pa.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Norland Cemetery. The Rev. Warren Heintzelman will officiate.
There will be no viewing.
