David L. Johnson
David Lee Johnson, 66, of 348 Nottingham Road, Hagerstown, and a resident of Western Maryland Hospital Center, died Thursday, March 13, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born July 19, 1930, in Asheboro, N.C., he was the son of the late Albert P. and Mary Lou Bunn Johnson.
He retired from H.B. Mellott Estates.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean War.
He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Temple.
He is survived by his wife, Janice S. Johnson; one daughter, Betty Ann Johnson of North Carolina; one son, David L. Johnson Jr. of North Carolina; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown.
The Rev. Ed Hampton will officiate.
Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mary B. Cottrill
DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. - Mary Bell Cottrill, 77, of Douglasville, and formerly of Hagerstown, who died Tuesday, March 11, 1997, in Georgia, was born in Washington County.
She was the daughter of the late Julian R. and Ethel Putnam Santmyers.
John L. Boublitz
WILLIAMSPORT - Judge John Louis Boublitz, 83, of Williamsport, died Sunday, March 9, 1997, at Flagler Hospital East, St. Augustine, Fla.
He was a retired Maryland District Court judge.
He was a former attorney for the City of Hagerstown.
He was admitted to the Bar 60 years ago.
He was a member of Haven Lutheran Church, Hagerstown.
He was a member of American Legion Post 42; Elks Lodge 378; Fountain Head Country Club; Washington County Bar Association; Maryland State Bar Association; and Torch Club.
He was past president of the Civitans.
He was a former member of Hagerstown Chamber of Commerce.
He also was a former chairman of Washington County Planning and Zoning Commission.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel Lubin Boublitz; two daughters, Sharon Munday of Bon Aire, Va., and Kathleen Amos of Hagerstown; one sister, Margaret Phillips of Raleigh, N.C.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorial services will be Saturday, March 22, at 2 p.m. at Haven Lutheran Church.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Mary V. Shipley
Mary Virginia Shipley, 87, of 104 Devonshire Road, Hagerstown, died Thursday, March 13, 1997, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home.
Born Aug. 16, 1909, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Clarence A. and Evelyn Newkirk Linton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Denton G. Shipley, in November 1994.
She was employed by City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
She also was a private nurse.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Hagerstown.
She was a 50-year member of Order of Eastern Star Hagerstown 89.
She is survived by one son, Robert A. "Buck" Shipley of Hagerstown; three sisters, Katherine Kees, Anna Margaret Linton and Thelma Pittsnogle, all of Martinsburg; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Frances Linton; and two brothers, David Linton and C. Arlington Linton.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
The Rev. John W. Ailstock and Pastor Daniel Kees will officiate.
Burial will be in the Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Falling Waters, W.Va.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, where Order of Eastern Star Hagerstown 89 will hold a memorial service at 7:15 p.m.
Julia I. Steele
CLEAR SPRING - Julia Irene Steele, 80, of 13556 Blairs Valley Road, died Thursday, March 13, 1997, at the Homewood Retirement Center in Williamsport.
Born Jan. 6, 1917, in Dry Run, Md., she was the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Hazel Loretta Hawbaker Myers Sr.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Blairs Valley First Church of God, Clear Spring.
She is survived by two daughters, Gean S. Catherman and Barbara A. Black, both of Hagerstown; one sister, Dorothy Myers Hose of Greencastle, Pa.; two brothers, Grover C. Myers Jr. of Bedford, Pa., and Ennice Wayne Myers of Clear Spring; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Walter Dale Steele; one sister, Marie Hock; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home, 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring.
The Rev. Sterling Keeney will officiate.
Burial will be in Blairsvalley Cemetery.

Cora E. Rowe
SMITHSBURG - Cora E. Rowe, 75, of Smithsburg Pike, died Wednesday, March 12, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Sept. 9, 1921, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Lucretia Bock Athey.
She was a member of Welty Church of the Brethren, Greensburg.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Roger E. Rowe; three daughters, Charlotte Emery of Indiana, and Jo Ellen Pryor and Brenda Fraley, both of Smithsburg; four sons, Dennis Emery of Hagerstown, Harold Emery of Ohio, Robert Rowe of Marlowe, W.Va., and George Rowe of Brownsville, Md.; 20 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Athey.
Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Welty Church of the Brethren, 13465 Greensburg Road.
The Rev. Dean Mouk will officiate.
Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, Pa.

Henrietta E. Stallknecht
BOONSBORO - Henrietta E. Stallknecht, 89, of 8507 Mapleville Road, who died Feb. 17, 1997, is survived by her husband, R. Allard Stallknecht.

Bessie A. Andre´
WHEATON, Md. - Bessie Arlene Andre´, 78, of Wheaton, died Thursday, March 13, 1997, in Wheaton.
Born May, 24, 1918, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Jessie Franklin and Grace Huyett Riley.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carroll Henry "Tommy" Andre´.
She retired as a department manager from Montgomery Ward, Wheaton Plaza, after 20 years.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Andre´ Gibson of Frederick, Md.; two sons, Carroll Jack Andre´ of Rockville, Md., and Ronald E. Andre´ of Olney, Md.; two sisters, Doris Brant of Wheaton and Evelyn Knell of Peoria, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Pumphrey's Colonial Funeral Home, Rockville. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, Md.

Beulah M.W. Levering
FREDERICK, Md. - Beulah "Bootie" M. Winpigler Levering, 69, of 5935 Meadow Road, died Wednesday, March 12, 1997, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.
Born Jan. 19, 1928, in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Harry D. and Edith Irene Nusbaum Winpigler.
She was a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, Frederick, and the United Methodist Women of Mount Carmel, where she served as treasurer for many years.
She also was a member of Thurmont Senior Citizens.
She is survived by her husband, John Robert Levering; one daughter, Sandra Kay Moreland of Frederick; one sister, Stell Lewis, of Frederick; one brother, Harry D. Winpigler Jr. of Frederick; one nephew; one niece; and cousins.
Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Etchison Memorial Chapel of Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The Rev. Gary Sheffield-James will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
