Mary E. L. Curley

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Mary E. Logue Curley, 81, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, March 15, 1997, at Manor Care Health Nursing Home, Baltimore.

Born Aug. 25, 1915, in Martinsburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Virgie Logue.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Curley Sr. in 1985.

She was a homemaker.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She is survived by five daughters, Nitza Eaton, Lutricia Wolff, Rosemary Burnhardt, all of Baltimore, Linda Wieland of Garret County, Md., and Pamela Conner of Stewartstown, Pa.; three sons, Terry Wallace of California, Larry Wallace of Baltimore and John Curley of Carroll County, Md.; a companion, Hilard Cohen of Stewartstown, Pa.; 27 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Bonnie Curley and one sister, Vietta Grable.

Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel. The Rev. William C. Crowe will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Violet L. Ensminger

Violet Lorraine Ensminger, 77, of 431 Salem Ave., Hagerstown, died Saturday, March 15, 1997, at her home.

Born Oct. 23, 1919, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Charles Powell and Bertha Lee Lewis Shry.

Her husband, Russell Ensminger, preceded her in death.

She was previously employed with Inter Woven and Brandt Cabinet Works.

She was a member of Christ Reformed Church.

She also was a member of American Legion Post 211 Auxiliary in Funkstown, and Elks Lodge 378 Auxiliary.

She is survived by three sisters, Ruth Baker, Iva Smith and Cornelia Rodgers, all of Hagerstown; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Garry Ensminger.

Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Don R. Stevenson will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Nelda C.R. Smith

Nelda C. Ryland Smith, 95, formerly of 12 S. Walnut St., Hagerstown, died Friday, March 14, 1997, at Coffman Nursing Home in Hagerstown.

Born Aug. 29, 1901, in Westminster, Md., she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Ludia Fritz Weller.

Her first husband, William C. Ryland, died in 1954.

She also was preceded in death by her second husband, Edwin C. Smith.

She was a member of Washington Square United Methodist Church.

She also was a member of Lady Esther Chapter 3 in Hagerstown.

She is survived by two daughters, Lucille N. McTighe of Hagerstown, and Barbara Ann Oster of Gap, Pa.; two sons, William C. "Jack" Ryland and Ralph B. Ryland, both of Hagerstown; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Harold P. Atkins will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home 30 minutes prior to the service.

Helen E. Peltz

Helen Elizabeth Peltz, 73, of Hagerstown, died Sunday, March 16, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born April 4, 1923, in White Post, Clarke County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Sanford Hollis and Lula Dorris Rosenberry Reid.

She retired from Rest Haven Cemetery.

She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church for 51 years, and the Fidelity Sunday School Class.

She also was a member of Ladies of the Elks 378, and the Ladies Auxiliary of Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion.

She is survived by her husband, Andrew Peltz; two daughters, Doris J. Dennis of Mount Airy, Md., and Carol A. Long of Boonsboro; one son, Robert L. Shoop of Hagerstown; two sisters, Ethel Webb of Hagerstown and Donna Stine of Gettysburg, Pa.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Allen Reid; and one grandson.

Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 108 E. Franklin St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Stephen D. Robison will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Otterbein United Methodist Church, 108 E. Franklin St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Agnes H. Sweeney

Agnes H. Sweeney, 94, formerly of 1736 Edgewood Hills Circle, Hagerstown, died Saturday, March 15, 1997, at Coffman Nursing Home.

Born July 1, 1902, in Thurmont, Md., she was the daughter of the late Charles J. and Bertie Delphey Elower.

Her husband, Walter E. Sweeney Sr., died in 1986.

She attended Maranatha Brethren Church.

She is survived by one son, Walter E. "Jim" Sweeney Jr. of Hagerstown; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Jean F. Shupp; one son, Joseph L. Sweeney; one sister, Violet Rice; and one brother, Floyd Elower.

Services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Larry B. Sowers will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Logan L. Cook

Logan Lewis Cook, infant son of Brandon Keith and Pamela Elizabeth Stickler Cook of 678 Highland Way, Hagerstown, died Saturday, March 15, 1997, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Laikyn Abriane Cook, at home; two stepsisters, Sarah Marie Cook and Christina Michelle Cook, both of Dayton, Ohio; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Stickler of Hagerstown; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold D. Cook of Dayton; and paternal great-grandmothers, Maxine Cook of Eaton, Ohio, and Lillian Goff of Dayton.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport. James Moore, pastor, will officiate.

Arrangements are by Osborne Funeral Home in Williamsport.

Frank Grenci

BOONSBORO - Frank Grenci, 88, of 21427 Ridenour Road, died Sunday, March 16, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born July 19, 1908, in Italy, he was the son of the late Nicola and Concetta Maria Liero Grenci.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Carmella Grenci; two sons, Nicola Grenci of Amity, Pa., and Frank Mauro Grenci of Hagerstown; two sisters, Libby Elliott of Illinois and Kaye Di'Amico of Pennsylvania; one brother, Tony Grenci of Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 226 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, with the Rev. George A. Limmer as celebrant. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport.

The family will receive friends at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Prayers will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
