John N. Poper

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - John N. "Jack" Poper, 66, of 227 Dickinson Ave., died Saturday, March 15, 1997, at Newton Baker Veterans Affairs Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Aug. 7, 1930, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Howard and Elsie Zimmerman Poper.

He was a 1948 graduate of Waynesboro High School.

He worked as a machinist at Frick Co. in Waynesboro, and then at Landis Tool Co. in Waynesboro, where he was foreman in the milling department prior to his retirement on disability in 1988. Following retirement, he worked at various other machine shops in Frederick, Md., and Waynesboro.

He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Waynesboro, and the Married Couples Sunday School Class.

He also was a member of Mechanics Fire Company No. 1, William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1191, Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15, Eagles Club Inc., and Fraternal Order of Eagles 1758, all in Waynesboro; and National AARP.

He is survived by his wife, Betty J. Irving Poper, whom he married Feb. 22, 1968; four daughters, Lisa M. Poper, Stacy I. Poper, Kristi B. Poper and Leslie J. Poper, all of Waynesboro; two stepdaughters, Yvonne M. Neumyer of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Denise J. Minnich of Bowling Green, Ohio; one stepson, Darren L. Minnich of California; one sister, Jean Elder of Chambersburg; one brother, Kenneth Poper of Chambersburg; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Howard Poper Jr.

Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Faith United Methodist Church, 104 N. Potomac St., Waynesboro. Jay A. Saxe, pastor, and Roger E. Keech, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Faith United Methodist Church, 104 N. Potomac St., Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.

Erma E.E. Fisher

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Erma Elizabeth Ewan Fisher, 93, a resident of Piney Mountain Nursing Home, and formerly of 7668 Mentzer Gap Road, Waynesboro, died Saturday, March 15, 1997, at the home.

Born April 4, 1903, in Arendtsville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late James William and Grace Susan Nary Ewan.

Her husband, Chancie W. Fisher, died in 1993. They were married June 11, 1925.

She was employed as a seasonal worker for Wertz's Orchards and later for Knouse Foods.

She was a member of Blue Rock United Brethren in Christ Church in Tomstown, Pa., and the Women's Bible Class. She also taught Sunday school for a number of years.

She is survived by one daughter, Hilda M. Bricker of Waynesboro; one son, Wayne L. Fisher of Waynesboro; four sisters, Retha Rotz and Mildred Shade, both residents of Menno-Haven Home in Chambersburg, Pa., Marie McLaughlin of Chambersburg, and Mary Ellen Martin of Richmond, Va.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and eight brothers.

Services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Blue Rock United Brethren in Christ Church, 7885 Mentzer Gap Road, Waynesboro. Richard L. Thorp, pastor, and Arnold E. Wagaman, chaplain, will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m., and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to Blue Rock United Brethren in Christ Church, 7885 Mentzer Gap Road, Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.

William R. Kimbrough Sr.

FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - William Richard Kimbrough Sr., 65, of Terry Avenue, died Saturday, March 15, 1997, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Sept. 3, 1931, in Huntsville, Ala., he was the son of the late James Ernest and Frances Theoleen Williams Kimbrough.

His wife, Rilla Louise Kimbrough, died in 1996.

He was employed by Washington County Board of Education, retiring in 1987.

He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, serving with the U.S. Army.

He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by one daughter, Florence I. Durbin of Falling Waters; three sisters, Ernestine Sibley of Huntsville, Ala., Margaret K. Smith of Columbus, Ga., and Dorothy Sergi of Lakehurst, N.J.; two brothers, Bobby Kimbrough of Freemont, Calif., and James Kimbrough of Muscle Shoals, Ala.; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha V. Hee and Mary F. Figone.

Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown. The Rev. J. Robert Thompson Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Clear Spring.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Woodrow S. Byrd

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Woodrow S. Byrd, 82, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, March 15, 1997, at the home of his companion.

Born July, 21, 1914, in Franklin, W.Va., he was the son of the late Otho D. and Etta M. Siple Byrd.

His wife, Mary Virginia Byrd, preceded him in death.

He was a 1934 graduate of Franklin Senior High School.

He retired as general manager from Ramsey Hess Furniture Store in Martinsburg.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army 23rd Infantry.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by one daughter, Nancy Jo Deeds of Bedington, W.Va.; two sons, Roger N. Byrd of Martinsburg, and Craig A. Byrd of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; two brothers, S. Sheldon Byrd and W. Elwood Byrd, both of Martinsburg; six grandsons; three granddaughters; one great-grandson; a number of nieces and nephews; and his companion of 21 years, Elizabeth Ann DeHaven of Hedgesville, W.Va.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Imogene M. Crim.

Services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. Owen B. Womack will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by Newton D. Baker Post 896, VFW; and Berkeley Post 14, American Legion.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 2015 Boyd Orchard Road, Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401; or to First United Methodist Church, 110 S. Green St., Berkeley Springs, W.Va. 25411.

Barbara J. Silveous

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Barbara Jean Silveous, 40, of Dolly Varden Farm in Charles Town, died Sunday, March 16, 1997, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

Born Aug. 14, 1956, in Jefferson County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Robert Fielding and Margaret Louise McDaniel Long Sr.

She was a homemaker.

She was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by her husband of 19 years, Paul D. Silveous Sr.; four sons, Paul D. Silveous Jr., Michael Lee Silveous, David Allen Silveous and Bryan David Silveous, all at home; seven sisters, Darlene Dillow and Kathy Ann Long, both of Charles Town, Susan Donivan of Martinsburg, W.Va., Linda Hoffman and Sharon Pisconte, both of Alexandria, Va., Brenda Long of Texas, and Patricia Ann Long of California; three brothers, Larry Eugene Long of Millville, W.Va., and Timothy Lee Long and Steven McQueen Long, both of Florida; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Juanita Fay Long; and one brother, Robert F. Long Jr.

Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town. The Rev. Kathy Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town.

Friends will be received at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Kenneth W. Snyder

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Kenneth "Kenny" Warren Snyder, 73, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, March 15, 1997, at his home.

Born July 18, 1923, in Uleda, Pa., he was the son of the late John and Elizabeth Newcomer Snyder.

He was a 1941 graduate of East Beth High School, and attended Duke University.

He retired from General Motors Eastern Parts Plant as a material handler in the unitizing department.

He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He was a member of the American Legion in Philadelphia.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marge Uhouse Snyder; and three sisters, Thelma Cowell, Gwendolyn Alton and Kathryn Snyder, all of Fredericktown, Pa.

He was preceded in death by one brother, John N. Snyder.

Arrangements will be announced later by Greenlee's Funeral Home in Fredericktown, Pa. Burial will be in St. Nicolas Byzantine Catholic Church Cemetery.

Local arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg.

Betty V. Dayhoff

Betty Virginia Dayhoff, 59, of 1113 W. Church St., Hagerstown, died Monday, Nov. 11, 1996, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Jan. 13, 1937, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Dale and Josephine Sophia Smith Grams.

She was employed by Washington County Hospital, retiring in 1992.

She was a former member of People's Gospel Tabernacle, Hagerstown.

She was a member of AMVETS Post 10 Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara E. Domer of Hagerstown and T. Diane Fetters of Mt. Savage, Md.; three sons, Floyd Dale Farris Sr. and Gary L. Farris, both of Cumberland, Md., and Brian Keith Farris of Hagerstown; three sisters, Patricia Billman andJoyce E. Hunt, both of Hagerstown, and Shirley Stouffer of Chewsville; 15 grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Grams; and a granddaughter.

Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Paul Harne will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery at Locust Grove.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Myrtle V. Clopper

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Myrtle V. Clopper, 76, of 14473 Mercersburg Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 1996, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.

Born March 10, 1920, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late George and Josephine Sprecher Monninger.

She was a homemaker. She had been employed by the former Buckwalter's Chicken House, Upton, Pa.

She was a member of Cedar Lawn Missionary Church, Hagerstown.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Max E. Clopper; three sons, Edward E. Clopper, Richard L. Clopper and James L. Clopper, all of Greencastle; two sisters, Mary Wetzel and Ivalene Kline, both of Hagerstown; three brothers, Howard Monninger, Lewis Monninger and Robert Monninger, all of Hagerstown; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers.

Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Cedar Lawn Missionary Church, 17303 W. Washington St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert J. Seek and the Rev. Robert Timmons will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, and at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cedar Lawn Missionary Church 17303 W. Washington St. Hagerstown, Md. 21740.
