Mary M. Kreps
Mary Magdalena Kreps, 87, formerly of 13413 Highland St., Hagerstown, died Sunday, March 16, 1997, at Fahrney Keedy Home in Boonsboro.
Born Sept. 16, 1909, in Canalou, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Daniel S. and Anna M. Highbarger Kreps.
She was employed by Ross Garment Co. Inc., retiring in 1978.
She was a member of Long Meadow Church of the Brethren.
She is survived by three nieces, Joan M. Lamb of Louisville, Colo., Mary L. Biter of St. Charles, Mo., and Sandra J. Claybaugh of Warenton, Mo.; two nephews, Harry G. Kreps of Florissant, Mo., and Lynn E. Kreps of St. Peters, Mo.; and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Harry S. Kreps.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown.
The Rev. Byrl E. Shaver II will officiate.
Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro.
Friends will be received at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Marion L. Mallott
Marion L. Mallott, 85, of 11 W. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, died Monday, March 17, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Sept. 30, 1911, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Georgetta Long Mallott.
She was a nurses' aide in the nursery of Washington County Hospital, retiring after more than 30 years of service.
She was a member of Zion Reformed Church.
She is survived by two nieces, Veronica G. Ritter of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Albina M. Sandbower of Smithsburg.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Elizabeth Knode, Hazel Hastings, Frances Martin and Nellie Gill; and two brothers, William Mallott and Russell Mallott.
Services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.
The Rev. Jack Dale Cook will officiate.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to the service at the funeral home.
Lawrence E. Downs
Lawrence Edward Downs, 60, of 1500 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, died Sunday, March 16, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Dec. 27, 1936, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Lawrence A. and Pearl V. Appetito Downs.
He attended West End Baptist Chapel.
He is survived by one sister, Barbara V. Wennerstrom of Plymouth, Mass.; one aunt; one uncle; and nieces and nephews.
Services and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.

Hilda D.D. Besecker
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Hilda D. Dull Besecker, 74, of 111 C.V. Ave., died Monday, March 17, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born July 29, 1922, in Mont Alto, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Bessie Homan Dull.
She was a 1940 graduate of Quincy (Pa.) High School.
Early in life, she was a machine operator at Mont Alto Shirt Factory, Waynesboro Shoe Factory and then at Connie's Sportswear in Waynesboro.
Prior to retiring in 1981, she was employed as a nurse's assistant at South Mountain Restoration Center in South Mountain, Pa., for 18 years.
She served in the U.S. Army Nursing Corps during World War II.
She was a member of Greenwood Assembly of God Church in Fayetteville, Pa., Waynesboro AARP Chapter 739, National AARP, Waynesboro Senior Center, and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.
She is survived by her husband, Bernard F. Besecker, whom she married Dec. 20, 1947; four daughters, Donna M. Peiffer of Quincy, Jere L. Thoman and Carol Sue Besecker, both of Waynesboro, and Dotti S. Baker of Blue Ridge Summit, Pa.; one sister, Agnes Miller of Waynesboro; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.
Walter A. Stuart, pastor, and Douglas Baldwin, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery near Quincy.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Esta A. Buterbaugh
McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Esta A. Buterbaugh, 82, of HCR 80, Box 472, died Sunday, March 16, 1997, at Frick Hospital in Mount Pleasant, Pa.
Born April 23, 1914, in Ayr Township, Fulton County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John and Jessie Mellott Hendershot.
Her husband, G. Lawrence Buterbaugh, died in 1991.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Calvary Independent Baptist Church in McConnellsburg.
She is survived by four daughters, Verna "Peggy" Lashley of Lutherville, Md., Joy Johnston of Acme, Pa., Wanda Kaye Barber of Baltimore, and Gayle Detweiler of Hustontown, Pa.; two sons, Fred Buterbaugh and Mark Buterbaugh, both of McConnellsburg; three sisters, Ruth Reeder of McConnellsburg, Stella Graves of Hagerstown and Madeline Ott of Chambersburg, Pa.; one brother, Lemuel Hendershott of Big Cove Tannery, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Audrey C. Buterbaugh; and five brothers.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Calvary Independent Baptist Church.

Burial will be in Union Cemetery.

YAZOO CITY, Miss. - Carl Miller Gordon, 52, of 400 Old Tchula Road, died Friday, March 14, 1997, at his home.
He was a native of Hancock.
He was employed in levee maintenance.
A retired U.S. Army veteran, he served in Vietnam.
He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Faye Porter Gordon; one daughter, Christina Gordon of Seattle; two stepdaughters, Cindy Caruso of Seattle and Melanie Egan of Bentonia, Miss.; one stepson, David Overton Jr. of Bentonia; three sisters, Barbara Smith and Roseline Everett, both of State Line, Pa., and Carol Gladhill of Mercersburg, Pa.; three brothers, William W. Gordon of Williamsport, Lester E. Gordon of Big Pool and John I. Gordon of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; and one step-grandchild.
Services were held Monday at Stricklin-King Chapel in Yazoo City.
Burial was in Fletcher's Chapel Cemetery in Yazoo County, Miss.
