Marjorie G. Mims
WILLIAMSPORT - Marjorie Gabler Mims, 85, of 16505 Virginia Ave., died Sunday, March 16, 1997, at Homewood Community Retirement Center, Williamsport.
Born Aug. 16, 1911, in Utica, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Philip Frederick and Mabelle Smith Gabler Sr.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas K. Mims Sr. on May 22, 1982.
They were married on Oct. 2, 1930.
She was a 1929 graduate of Hagerstown High School.
She was employed by the former Moller Organ Co., Hagerstown.
She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Hagerstown.
She is survived by one daughter, Carol Mims Keller of Issaquah, Wash.; one son, Douglas K. Mims, Jr. of Lancaster, Pa.; one brother, Philip F. Gabler Jr. of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy G. Gordon, in 1989.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, Pa.
The Rev. Stephen D. Harris will officiate.
There will be no public viewing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross Blood Donor Program, 96 W. Main St., Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.

Phyllis A. M. Helman
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Phyllis Ann Miller Helman, 62, of 170 Briar Ridge Drive, died Tuesday, March 18, 1997, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill, Pa.
Born April 29, 1934, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd C. "Barney" and Josephine V. McKelvey Miller.
She was a 1952 graduate of Waynesboro High School.
She was employed as a secretary by WAYZ radio station from 1953 to 1955.
She then worked as a secretary at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, Pa.
Her last employment was with the Pennsylvania inheritance tax office in Chambersburg.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Waynesboro.
She also was a member of Dixon Troxell American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 211, Funkstown; Eagles Travel Club; and National AARP.
She was past president of Women of the Moose Lodge 1191, Waynesboro.
She is survived by her husband, Lemar O. Helman, whom she married June 15, 1952; one daughter, Cheryl L. "Sherry" Baker of Waynesboro; two sons, Eric L. Helman and Kent "K.C." Helman, both of Waynesboro; four grandchildren; one aunt; one uncle; two nieces; and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Janet "Jimmy" Stoops Sanders in 1992.
Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.
Pastor Jay E. Zimmerman will officiate.
Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Betty J. L. Shepherd
BARTLESVILLE, Okla. - Betty Jane Levick Shepherd, 71, of Bartlesville, and formerly of Waynesboro, Pa., died Sunday, March 16, 1997, at Jane Phillips Medical Center, Bartlesville.
Born Dec. 10, 1925, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Thomas R. and Viola Jane Galbraith Levick.
She was a 1945 graduate of Waynesboro High School.
She was a beautician.
She was a member of Ramona Church of Christ, Bartlesville, where she taught Children's Bible Class and the Vacation Bible School.
She also was active in prison ministry at the Dean Connor Correctional Institute.
She is survived by her husband whom she married Oct. 16, 1948, Lorne Shepherd; two daughters, Lorna Shepherd and Carla Shepherd, both of Bartlesville; two sisters, Martha Frenzel of Waynesboro and Shirley Paterchak of Dayton, Ohio; two brothers, Austin "Bill" Levick and Richard "Dick" Levick, both of Waynesboro; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Harold Levick, Wallace Levick, Thomas Levick, Delbert Levick and Allen Levick.
Services will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.
Pastor James Tutor Williams will officiate.
Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
There will be no public viewing.

William T. Catrow
ARDEN, W.Va. - William T. Catrow, 72, of Arden, W.Va., died Tuesday, March 18, 1997, at his home, White Oak Hollow.
Born Aug. 14, 1924, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Harry S. and Daisy Pitzer Catrow.
He was a 1942 graduate of Martinsburg High School.
He retired from DuPont.
He was a 50-year member of Arden United Methodist Church.
He also was a member of DuPont Retiree Association, Norwalk Antique Car Club and Williams Grove Historical Steam Engine Association.
He was associated with Dillon Farm Museum and was president of the Catrow Family Reunion.
He is survived by his wife, Lorna Snyder Catrow; two daughters, Sue Nagley and Mary Ellen DeHaven, both of Arden; three sons, Jerry W. Catrow, Dennis L. Catrow and Robert W. Catrow, all of Arden; one brother, Jack Catrow of Shenandoah Junction, W.Va.; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Francis Catrow, Allen Catrow, Paul Catrow and Bruce Catrow.
Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg.
The Rev. Walter F. Bowers will officiate.
Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens in Martinsburg.

Alton C. Twenty
FREDERICK, Md. - Alton "Joe" Cornelious Twenty, 92, of 611 Grant Place, Frederick, died Monday, March 17, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born May 17, 1904, in Indian Springs, Md., he was the son of the late John C. and Della Reeder Twenty.
He retired from the Frederick City Police Department in 1969, after 21 years.
He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Frederick.
He played baseball in the minor leagues, and was a member of the Old Timers Baseball Club.
He umpired baseball and softball for high school and recreation league games in Frederick and Washington counties.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lenora A. Fox Twenty; one daughter, Ruth E. Broome of Panama City, Fla.; two brothers, Amos Twenty of Mt. Airy, Md., and John Twenty of Frederick; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, Amy McKenzie, Bertha McBride, Cora Krantz, Martha Hanshew and Blanche Shockey; and one brother, Ira Twenty.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.
The Rev. Robert E. Manthey will officiate.
Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mary J. Medved
ACWORTH, Ga. - Mary Jane Medved, 68, of Acworth, died Monday, March 17, 1997.
Born in Perryopolis, Pa., she was the daughter of Mary Spenik of Uniontown, Pa.
She moved to Hagerstown in 1969.
She was employed by Western Maryland Hospital as an office manager for 25 years.
She was a member of St. Catherines of Siena Catholic Church, Kennesaw, Ga.
She was a Marietta Kicker.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by one daughter, Joselyn M. Stewart of Acworth; two sisters, Marlene Otonicar of Marietta, Ga., and Geraldine Straka of Chicago; and four brothers, Charles Spenik of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, John Spenik of Houston, Bob Spenik of Eastchester, N.Y., and Ed Spenik of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
A memorial service will be held today at 2 p.m. at Saint Josephs Catholic Church, Marietta.

Harry T. Compton Jr.
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Harry Theodore "Ted" Compton Jr., 54, of Berkeley Springs, died Monday, March 17, 1997, at his home.
Born Nov. 3, 1942, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Harry Theodore and Rosa Lea Burton Compton Sr.
He attended public schools in Great Cacapon, W.Va., and Berkeley Springs.
From 1959 until its close on July 1, 1996, he was the C.E.O. of T.H. Compton Trucking, a local business started by his grandfather, Theodore Hamil Compton, in 1931.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of Junior Order of American Mechanics Council 117 and Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 1483, both of Berkeley Springs.
He is survived by his wife, Joann Esther Kerns Compton; four daughters, Trena Youngblood and Sonia Lea Andrews, both of Berkeley Springs, Misty Hampe of Livingston, Mont., and Jennifer A. Cain of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one son, Bradley D. Compton of Berkeley Springs; one sister, Carolyn A. Shambaugh of Berkeley Springs; nine grandchildren; one niece; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Bernice Compton.
Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church, Great Cacapon, W.Va.
The Rev. Steven R. Dawson will officiate.
Burial will be in Greenway Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.
The family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs.
The funeral home will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the convenience of friends.
