Armour B. Spangler
ZULLINGER, Pa. - Armour Bahner Spangler, 89, of 11861 Wharf Road, died Tuesday, March 18, 1997, at Newton Baker Veterans Affairs Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Oct. 23, 1907, near Welty's in Washington Township, Franklin County, Pa., he was the son of the late Abram Landis and Alta B. Koons Spangler.
Early in life, he worked for Barlup Milk as a deliveryman.
He then was employed at Landis Tool Co. in Waynesboro as a tool carrier for 30 years, retiring in 1971.
His wife, Helen M. Beckner Spangler, died in 1993.
They were married July 19, 1950.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Wayne Heights Brethren Church in Waynesboro.
He is survived by four sons, Armour D. Spangler of Hagerstown, Paul E. Spangler of Zullinger, Randy L. Spangler of Boonsboro and Gary N. Spangler of Chambersburg, Pa.; two sisters, Frances Moats of Hagerstown and Alberta Bostwick of Waynesboro; three brothers, Frank Spangler of Waynesboro, Albert Spangler of Utah and Arthur Spangler of Hagerstown; one stepgranddaughter; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.
The Rev. Howard W. Walton will officiate.
Burial will be in Fairfield Union Cemetery in Adams County, Pa.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Graveside military services will be conducted by the honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post 1599 in Chambersburg.
Betty J. L. Shepherd
BARTLESVILLE, Okla. - Services for Betty Jane Levick Shepherd, who died Sunday, March 16, 1997, in Bartlesville, Okla., will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, Pa.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
L. Eugene Johnson
FREDERICK, Md. - L. Eugene Johnson, 70, of 5678 Barberry Court, died Tuesday, March 18, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born May 5, 1926, in Barnesville, Md., he was the son of the late Jacob M. and Beulah V. McDonough Johnson.
He was employed with People's Security Insurance Agency, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of Carroll Fire Co., and was the company's president for more than 37 years.
He had been an ambulance and rescue chief for more than 40 years, until 1996.
He was an EMT, and an IV technician through the Frederick County IV Therapy Program.
He received many awards, including the Certificate of Outstanding Contribution from Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Service Systems in 1986, and the Dr. James Marrone Award from the FCVFRA in 1994.
He received from Gov. Parris Glendening, the Lifetime Service Award, and in 1994, received the Good Samaritan of the Year Award, the highest recognition given to an individual by Frederick Memorial Hospital.
A veteran of World War II, he served in Europe with the U.S. Army.
He also was a member of Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary; and Francis Scott Key Post 11 American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth "Lib" Roberson Johnson; one daughter, Linda J. Delphey of Frederick; one son, L. Edward Johnson of Adamstown, Md.; two sisters, Nettie Lou Poole and Beulah Lacetti, both of Germantown, Md.; two brothers, Jacob J. Johnson of Frederick, and Franklin Johnson of Williamsport; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, L. Eugene Johnson Jr.; and one sister, Mary "Woots" Fisk.
Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Carroll Manor Fire Co. in Adamstown.
The Rev. C. Bruce Wierks will officiate.
Burial will be in Monocacy Cemetery in Beallsville, Md.
The family will receive friends at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick, today and Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
A memorial service, conducted by fire department members, will be held Friday at 8 p.m.

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Ruth P. Butts, of Berkeley Springs, died Tuesday, March 18, 1997, at her home.

GUTTENBURG, Iowa - Thelma Fleming Snyder, 94, of Guttenburg and formerly of Charles Town, W.Va., died Sunday, March 16, 1997, at Guttenburg Municipal Hospital.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town, W.Va.
The Rev. Alice Thornton will officiate.
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
