Hazel L. Green

Hazel Leona Green, 90, a resident of Avalon Manor Nursing Home in Hagerstown, and formerly of LaVale Boulevard, LaVale, died Sunday, March 23, 1997, at the nursing home.

Born March 11, 1907, in Garrett County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Barbara Brode Michael.

Her husband, David S. Green, died in 1996.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church in Cumberland, Md.

She is survived by two sons, Stanley F. Green of Hagerstown, and Donald O. Green of Hatfield, Pa.; four grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, La Vale. Tom Cusack will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Friends will be received at the funeral home Tuesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Cumberland Seventh-day Adventist Church in memory of Hazel Green, 800 Hilltop Drive, Cumberland, Md. 21502.

Judith M. G. Williams

Judith Marie Grant Williams, 75, of 108 Harvard Road, Hagerstown, who died Friday, March 21, 1997, is survived by one niece and one nephew.

Paul F. Miller

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Paul F. Miller, 83, of 239 High St., died Saturday, March 22, 1997, at ManorCare Health Services in Chambersburg.

Born Feb. 1, 1914, in Guilford Springs, Pa., he was the son of the late Harvey S. and Annie Myers Miller.

He was a pressman with The Herald-Mail Co. in Hagerstown for 27 years, retiring in 1978.

He had previously been employed with the B&O Railroad for five years.

He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chambersburg.

He was a life member of Franklin Fire Company Station No. 4 in Chambersburg, where he served as fire chief for 14 years.

He also was a member of Tri-County Lodge 76 Fraternal Order of Police, Graphics Communication International Union, Junior OUAM Lodge in Marion, Pa., National AARP, Fireman's Relief Association, and Cumberland Valley Volunteer Fireman Association.

He is survived by his wife, Miriam L. Gerbig Miller, whom he married Feb. 24, 1934; two sons, Harold G. "Jack" Miller, of Marquette, Mich., J. Eric Miller of Hanover, Pa.; one sister, Helen Furley of Chambersburg; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.

Services will be held Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Karen Minnich-Sadler will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg.

A viewing will be held Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43 W. Washington St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201; or to Franklin Fire Company Station 4, 70 N. Franklin St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Seldon G. Hait Jr.

FALLING WATERS, W.Va. -Seldon Gray Hait Jr., 84, of 109 Broadview Court, and formerly of Medford Lakes, N.J., died Saturday, March 22, 1997, at the home of his daughter.

Born Jan. 31, 1913, in New York, he was the son of the late Seldon Gray and Jessie Ferguson Hait Sr.

His wife, Dorothy Yowell Hait, died in 1985.

He was employed as a salesman for Allied Chemical Co., retiring in 1976.

He was a veteran of World War II.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He was a member of Medford Lakes Lodge 178 A.F.&A.M., and Hagerstown Lodge 212 Loyal Order of Moose.

He is survived by one daughter, Shiela A. Klusmeier of Falling Waters; one granddaughter, Lauren Gray Klusmeier of Falling Waters; two stepgrandsons; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 2015 Boyd Orchard Court, Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.

Arrangements are by Osborne Funeral Home in Williamsport.

Beatrice V.M. Heckman

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Beatrice Virginia Morris Heckman, 74, of 111 E. North St., was pronounced dead Friday, March 21, 1997, at her home.

Born March 29, 1922, in Berryville, Va., she was the daughter of the late Garland W. and Louie D. Rogers Morris.

She attended school in Hagerstown.

Her husband, Leroy Edward Heckman, died in 1959.

He was employed at Schaeffer's Confectionary Store and then at Newberry's, both in Waynesboro. Prior to retiring in the late 1980s, she worked at McCrory's in Waynesboro, as a waitress at the food bar.

She was a member of the former First Christian Church in Waynesboro.

She also was a charter member of William Max McLaughlin V.F.W. Post 695 Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15 Ladies Auxiliary, National AARP, and South Chapter 2977 AARP. She played bingo.

She is survived by one daughter, Sandra L. Delaet of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; two sons, Douglas A. Heckman of Baltimore, and Robert E. Heckman of Waynesboro; one sister, Pauline Keefauver of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; one brother, Rupert B. Morris of Warrenton, Mo.; one granddaughter; four stepgrandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

Services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Michael V. Newman, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 8 p.m.

Priscilla E. Newcomer

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Priscilla E. Newcomer, 78, a resident of Wynbrier Retirement Home, and formerly of Chambersburg, Pa., died Saturday, March 22, 1997, at the home.

Born Sept. 3, 1918, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late John and Emma Smith Duke.

She was a 1937 graduate of Chambersburg High School.

She retired from Chambersburg Hospital, after a number of years of service.

She was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Chambersburg.

She was a life member of Charles M. Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post 1599 Ladies Auxiliary in Chambersburg.

She is survived by one daughter, Donna L. Ford of Waynesboro; three sons, Ronald K. Newcomer of Fayetteville, Pa., Thomas L. Newcomer of Chambersburg, and Bennett Newcomer of Waynesboro; two brothers, William Duke of Chambersburg and Charles Duke of Waynesboro; nine grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Duke and James Duke.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Parklawns Memorial Gardens, 3218 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. The Rev. Roger Cales will officiate.

A viewing will be held Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, 225 E. King St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Joseph A. Cluck

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Retired Lt. Col. Joseph A. Cluck, 77, of 329 Antietam Drive, died Friday, March 21, 1997, at University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore.

Born April 29, 1919, in Guilford Township, Pa., near Penn National, he was the son of the late Dorsey A. and Nancy Pearl Bushman Cluck.

He was a 1937 graduate of Quincy High School. While serving in the National Guard, he attended officers candidate school at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., and also took courses at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen, Md.

He enlisted in the Maryland National Guard in 1940 and the next year was called to active duty as a staff sergeant. He served with the 29th Division in the European Theater and landed on Okinawa Beach on the first day of the invasion. He was discharged in 1945.

In 1947, he reenlisted with the Maryland National Guard and was promoted to warrant officer in 1950. In 1951 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and commanded the 739th Maintenance Battalion while he was stationed in Havre de Grace, Md. He also was the state maintenance officer for the state of Maryland. He retired in 1975.

He was the recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal, Maryland Distinguished Service Cross and also received a special Frenchman award.

He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Waynesboro, where he served as a deacon for a number of years.

He also was a member of Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15, William Max McLaughlin V.F.W. Post 695, B.P.O. Elks Lodge 731, South Chapter AARP 2977, all of Waynesboro; and the Waynesboro Fish and Game Association.

He was a life member of South Mountain Fish and Game Association and a member of National AARP, the 29th Division Association, the Lantern Post 739 in Cascade, the Maryland State Rifle and Pistol Association.

He was a life member of National Rifle Association and a member of Amateur Trapshooting Association in Vandalia, Ohio, the Greencastle Sportsman Association, the Industrial Trap League, the Tri-State Trap League Greencastle Team, Franklin County Trap League Waynesboro Team, American Bowling Congress and bowled with the Senior Keglers at Sunshine Lanes in Waynesboro.

He was a past master of Susquehanna Lodge 130 Free and Accepted Masons in Havre de Grace, Past Master Association of Harford County Har-Ce Forest 142 Tall Cedars of Lebanon, a member of Boumi Temple of A.A.O.N.M.S. of Baltimore, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in Baltimore, Order of the Eastern Star in Havre de Grace, and Waynesboro Shrine Club.

He is survived by his wife, M. Isabelle Shank Cluck, whom he married Dec. 20, 1941; one son, Jack E. Cluck of Waynesboro; one sister, Dorothy M. Cluck of Mont Alto, Pa.; three brothers, David R. Cluck, Roy B. Cluck and Larry E. Cluck, all of Mont Alto; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Samuel E. Cluck and Elbert J. Cluck.

Services will be held Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Stuart Troutman will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro, with graveside military services conducted by Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post 1599 Honor Guard, Chambersburg.

Memorial donations nay be made to Salem United Church of Christ, 4881 Salem Church Rd., Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m., with Masonic memorial services conducted by Acacia Lodge 586 F.&A.M., Waynesboro at 8:30 p.m. today.

Laura J. Baker

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Laura Jane Baker, 52, of Willow Springs Apartments, died Saturday, March 22, 1997, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.

Born Sept. 27, 1944, in Charles Town, she was the daughter of Helen F. Willingham Zombro of Charles Town, and the late Ralph O. Zombro.

Services will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town. The Rev. Eddie H. Edmonds will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Friends will be received at the funeral home Tuesday from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Independent Fire Company, P.O. Box 925, Charles Town, W.Va. 25414.
