CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Parker Vanslyke Reed, 83, of Charles Town, died Saturday, March 22, 1997, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, Va. John Hackworth, chaplain, will officiate.
There will be no visitation.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 2015 Boyd Orchard Court, Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.

Lewis C. Strine
MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Lewis C. Strine, 41, of 11693 Mercersburg Road, died Monday, March 24, 1997, at his home.
Born Jan. 2, 1956, in York, Pa., he was the son of Luther E. and Helen Louise Eddy Strine, of York.
He was a 1975 graduate of Dover High School, Dover, Pa.
He was employed as a mechanic by Burger's Machine Shop, Hagerstown.
He was a member of the Tri-State Walking Horse Association; Mason-Dixon Corvette Club; Loyal Order of Moose, Chambersburg, Pa.; Conococheague Institute Historical Society; and the Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club of America.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Joan E. Bucheimer Strine, whom he married June 5, 1988; one daughter, Sandra G. Kline of Yardley, Pa.; one son, Andrew M. Rill of Duncannon, Pa.; four sisters, Suzanne L. Kinneman of Dillsburg, Pa., Diane L. Snelbaker of Dover; Joyce J. Guzzino of Wrightsville, Pa., and Bonnie M. Kornbau of Red Lion, Pa.; two brothers, Luther E. Strine and Michael E. Strine, both of Dover; two grandchildren; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at the former Robert Kennedy Memorial Presbyterian Church, at the intersection of Pa. 416 and Pa. 995, Welsh Run, Pa.
The Rev. Rawley D. Boone will officiate.
There will be no public viewing; the family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church.

Vivian R. Mowen
WILLIAMSPORT - Vivian R. Mowen, 82, of 154 N. Artizan St., Twin Oaks, and formerly of 18627 Crestwood Drive, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, March 25, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born July 7, 1914, in Funkstown, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Flora B. Miller Ramsey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Fred Mowen, in 1978.
She assisted as a publicist for her sister's dress shop, Lena Darner Boutique.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
She was a volunteer with the USO from 1940 until 1945.
She is survived by one daughter, Susan Silverman of Potomac, Md.; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at All Saints Chapel at Trinity Lutheran Church.
The Rev. Donald M. Buchenroth will officiate.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will greet friends at the church following the service.

J. Lynn O'Brien, 82, of Hagerstown, who died Tuesday, March 18, 1997, is survived by one stepdaughter, Annabelle Myers of Mercersburg, Pa.; and one stepbrother, Charles E. Snyder of Hagerstown.
Ruby M. Bright
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Ruby Mildred Bright, 84, of Penn Hall Nursing Home, and formerly of 3519 Venetian Road, Baltimore, died Monday, March 24, 1997, at the home.
Born May 4, 1912, in Jordan Mines, Va., she was the daughter of the late Francis E. and Maude T. Bess Baer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth H. Bright.
She was employed as a registered nurse in Catonsville, Md., for 32 years.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, she served as a nurse during World War II.
She was a member of Crystal Club, Owings Mills, Md.; Eastern Star and was a former Worthy Matron, Baltimore; Ammaranth; Daughters of the Nile; the Moose Lodge, Catonsville and other lodge groups.
She is survived by one brother, F. Ray Baer of Norfolk, Va.; and one niece.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Marie Louise Baer; and one brother, William Thomas Baer.
A graveside service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge, Va.
The Rev. John Carrier will officiate.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home, 405 Alleghany St., Clifton Forge.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Cathern L. Bartles, 67, of Martinsburg, died Monday, March 24, 1997, at her home under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born March 12, 1930, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Holmes D. and Inez Olivis Williams.
She was a farmer. She retired from Royce Hosiery.
She was a member of Moler Avenue Church of the Brethren.
She is survived by her husband, Clarence E. "Jim" Bartles; one daughter, Sharon Crawford of Martinsburg; one sister, Mildred N. Stokes of Indiana, Pa.; one brother, Junior Williams of Herndon, Va.; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Orpha Collins.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
The Rev. Kenneth L. Reed will officiate.
Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.

Merle N. Swope
Merle Nelson Swope, 86, of 1105 Rose Hill Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, March 25, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 18, 1910, in Mt. Lena, he was the son of the late Harvey Nelson and Elizabeth E. Arnold Swope.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Fannie Katherine Swope, in 1990.
He retired from Duvinage Corp., Hagerstown.
He was a member of Beaver Creek Christian Church.
He also was a member of the Ostomy Association, Hagerstown, and the AARP.
He is survived by three sons, Dale N. Swope, Marvin R. Swope and Lionel E. Swope, all of Hagerstown; two stepdaughters, Phyllis S. Miller of Hagerstown and Josephine M. Benner of Boonsboro; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one stepson, George R. Saum; and two brothers, J. Harold Swope and Russell D. Arnold.
Services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. J. Mark Curran will officiate.
Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, San Mar.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Mary Catherine Proctor, 93, of Martinsburg, died Monday, March 24, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born June 2, 1903, in Falling Waters, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John Robert and Anna Mary Jack Mix.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Howard Proctor.
She was a cook at Bedington Elementary School.
She was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by one sister, Anna Mitchem of Martinsburg; one grandson, Galen E. Richard of Hedgesville, W.Va.; and a great-grandson, Derek W. Richard.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Agnes Proctor Richard; one sister, Elizabeth Mix and one brother, John Mix.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Falling Waters Presbyterian Cemetery, Spring Mills.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
