Eugene L. Raby
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Eugene "Gene" L. Raby, 74, of 509 Fairview Ave., died Monday, March 24, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born Sept. 7, 1922, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Earl and Helen Staley Raby.
He was a 1940 graduate of Quincy High School.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he retired as a chief petty officer. After his retirement, he worked at the Velvet Cafe.
He was a post member of Joe Stickle Post 15 American Legion and a member of the Fleet Reserve.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Casey Raby; one daughter, Patricia Wishard of Waynesboro; one son, Eugene S. Raby of Waynesboro; four sisters, Madeline Harbaugh of Dayton, Ohio, Alease Holland of Hanover, Pa., Gladys Taylor of West Grove, Pa., and Lorraine Misner of Fayetteville, Pa.; one brother, the Rev. Stephen E. Raby of San Antonio, Texas; and four granddaughters.
Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Snyder-Lochstampfor Funeral Home, corners of South Church and West Second streets, Waynesboro. Pastor William Shank will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

George R. Crouse
McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - George Richard "Dick" Crouse, 52, of 416 N. Second St., died Monday, March 24, 1997, at his home.
Born June 21, 1944, in Warfordsburg, Pa., he was the son of Inez Brown Crouse of McConnellsburg and the late George L. Crouse.
He was a 1962 graduate of McConnellsburg High School. He was a 1966 graduate of Shippensburg College.
He was a teacher at James Buchanan High School.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, McConnellsburg.
He was a member and past president of McConnellsburg Volunteer Fire Co.; council member and president of McConnellsburg Borough Council; member and past secretary of Mt. Zion Lodge 774, McConnellsburg; Harrisburg Consistory; Jaffa Temple, Altoona, Pa.; Fulton County Sportsmen Association; Mercersburg Sportsmen's Association; Tuscarora Education Association; Pennsylvania State Education Association; and National Educational Association.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two brothers, Charles L. Crouse of Dunbar, Pa., and Robert C. Crouse of Spring Grove, Pa.; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's United Church of Christ. The Rev. Barron Barley and the Rev. E. Loy Garber will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.

Roy B. Wingert Sr.
ST. THOMAS, Pa. - Roy Brandt Wingert Sr., 81, of Carlton Heights, died Monday, March 24, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro, Pa.
Born July 13, 1915, in Franklin County, Pa., he was the son of the late Edward Brandt and Esther Burkhart Wingert.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Nenninger Wingert, in 1992.
He was the owner and operator of Roy B. Wingert Septic Tank Service, until his retirement.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of George Washington Lodge 143, Chambersburg, Pa.; Harrisburg Consistory; Zembo Temple, Harrisburg, Pa.; American Legion Posts 612, St. Thomas, 606, Fort Loudon, Pa., and 830, Mercersburg, Pa.; AMVETS Post 224, Chambersburg; VFW Post 1599; Marine Corps League, Chambersburg; Forty and Eight Club; Last Man's Club; AARP Norland Chapter 3261; Landis-McCleaf Detachment Home Association; board member AAA; Mercersburg Sportsman Association; and Chambersburg Rod and Gun Club.
He is survived by one daughter, Patricia Ann Wingert of Greencastle, Pa.; one son, Roy B. Wingert Jr. of St. Thomas, Pa.; three sisters, Cora Brechbill and Dorothy Rice, both of Chambersburg, and Mary Wadel of Scotland, Pa.; five brothers, Merle E. Wingert, Glen A. Wingert, Harold Wingert and Raymond L. Wingert, all of Chambersburg, and Marvin R. Wingert of Carlisle, Pa.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a close friend, Jenny Best.
Services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 6492 Lincoln Way West, St. Thomas. The Rev. Floyd Myers will officiate. Burial, with military graveside services by Detrich-Brechbill American Legion Post 612, St. Thomas, will be in St. Thomas Cemetery.

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Thomas D. Bailie, 71, of P.O. Box 303, 116 W. Market St., died Monday, March 24, 1997, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg.
Born Dec. 21, 1925, in Virginia, he was the son of the late Thomas Bailie and Elizabeth Caton Bailie.
He attended school until the 10th grade.
He was a retired mechanic.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth D. Deale Bailie; two sons, Thomas E. Bailie of Arlington, Va., and Kenneth W. Bailie of Albany, Ky.; and one grandchild.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Marvin K. Payne Jr.
KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - Marvin Kirk Payne Jr., 55, of Fox Glen, died Tuesday, March 25, 1997, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Born Dec. 27, 1941, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Marvin Kirk and Nellie Groves Payne Sr.
He was employed by Dixie-Narco Inc. for 15 years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Doris Emily Burke Payne; one son, William Kirk Payne at home; one sister, Nancy Watson of Marshall, Va.; and one brother, Douglas Payne of Manassas, Va.
He was preceded in death by one brother, John Payne.
Services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, W.Va. The Rev. John Heddleston will officiate. Burial will be in National Memorial Park Cemetery, Lee Highway, Falls Church, Va.

Melvin V. Fravel Sr.
HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Melvin Vernon Fravel Sr., 61, of Conestoga Estates, Harpers Ferry, died Monday, March 24, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.
Born Nov. 22, 1935, in Brunswick, Md., he was the son of Susan Thompson Fravel of Brunswick, and the late James Russell Fravel Sr.
He attended Brunswick High School; Frederick Community College; and Hagerstown Junior College.
He was employed as an electrician by CSX Transportation, Brunswick, for 30 years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was a 40-year member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Gapland, Md.
He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 42 years, Frances Ware Fravel; one daughter, Julia R. Poling of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one son, Melvin V. Fravel Jr. of Harpers Ferry; two sisters, Virginia K. Hinchman of Gettysburg, Pa., and Ann L. Talbert of Picayune, Miss.; two brothers, James R. Fravel Jr. of Jamestown, Tenn., and Jerry T. Fravel of Stafford, Va.; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert L. Fravel.
Memorial services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. The Rev. Wendell McClellan will officiate.

Lena G. Goshorn
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Lena G. Goshorn, 69, of 5857 Greenvillage Road, died Monday, March 24, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born June 28, 1927, in Huntington Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Taylor and Mae Henry Parson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay W. Goshorn, on May 23, 1980.
She was a 1945 graduate of Juniata High School, Juniata, Pa.
She was employed as a secretary by McBeth Corp., Chambersburg, for 25 years. She had been employed by Oliver Oil Co., Chambersburg.
She was a member of Air Hill Brethren in Christ Church, Chambersburg, where she served on the Sunday school committee and was the secretary/treasurer of the Lamplighters Group.
She was a volunteer at Chambersburg Hospital.
She is survived by two sons, Donald J. Goshorn and Larry E. Goshorn, both of Chambersburg; and three grandchildren, Wendy S. Goshorn, Jenna J. Goshorn and Randy J. Goshorn, all of Chambersburg.
She was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Air Hill Brethren in Christ Church, 7041 Cumberland Highway, Chambersburg. The Rev. John L. Bundy and the Rev. Wilbur W. Benner will officiate. Burial will be in Air Hill Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Clarence S. Mohn
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Clarence "Soly" S. Mohn, 91, of 996 Mentzer Gap Road, died Tuesday, March 25, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital.
Born Sept. 10, 1905, in Glen Furnie, Pa., he was the son of the late Solomon and Elsie Paterson Mohn.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Mort Mohn, in 1977.
He retired in 1977 from the Pennsylvania State Forest and Water Service. He had been in general forestry at Macbux Forest for more than 20 years. He also had worked for Chambersburg Construction Corp.
He was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses, Waynesboro.
He is survived by one daughter, Judith Clark of Waynesboro; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Snyder-Lochstampfor Funeral Home Inc., Waynesboro. Elder Thomas Duchaine will officiate. Burial will be in Nunnery Run Cemetery.
