Vernie M. Newbraugh
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Vernie Mae Newbraugh, 73, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, March 26, 1997, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born May 4, 1923, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Willard G. and Ivy Bohrer Merchant.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Foster D. Newbraugh.
She was employed by Perfection Garment Co., until her retirement.
She was a member of Pikeside United Methodist Church and its Loyalty Class.
She is survived by two daughters, Roxena K. Frye of Inwood, W.Va., and Kala T. Spiker of Martinsburg; one sister, Rosalie Graham of Berkeley Springs; two brothers, Ralph Merchant of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Detral Merchant of Martinsburg; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Eveline Taylor.
Services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Michael G. Marsh will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Franklin R. Wagner
Franklin Robert Wagner, 78, of 11 S. Walnut St., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, March 26, 1997, at Colton Villa Nursing Home.
Born Jan. 25, 1919, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late George Ignatius and Mary Rose Knodle Wagner.
He was a farmer with Harshman Farms in Myersville, Md., for 30 years.
A veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he served with the U.S. Army.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
He is survived by three sisters, Sister Valeria of School Sisters of Notre Dame, St. Pius X, Baltimore, and Nathalie E. Spielman and Regina C. Haerer, both of Hagerstown; and one brother, George A. Wagner of Hagerstown.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Edward L. Wagner, Paul A. Wagner, Thomas B. Wagner and Joseph G. Wagner.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Monsignor Robert S. Passarelli as celebrant. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m., at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, where prayers will be recited at 8:45 p.m.

William A. Green Jr.
William Adam Green Jr., 62, of 12205 Delwood Ave., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, March 26, 1997, at his home.
Born Oct. 2, 1934, in Frostburg, Md., he was the son of the late William Adam Sr. and Mary Veronica Clupp Green.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Constance Robinson Green, in 1994.
He was employed by CSX Transportation, retiring after 37 years.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served during the Korean War.
He was of the Catholic faith.
He was a member of Cumberland Red Men; American Legion; Eagles; and VFW.
He is survived by three daughters, Catherine Rita Gallagher, and Rose Marie Martin and Annie Joy Figgins, both of Hagerstown; one son, Thomas William Green of Cumberland, Md.; one sister, Margaret Elliott of Baltimore; one brother, George Lohman; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd., North Hagerstown. The Rev. Jack N. Fullen will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

Robert W. Kelley
FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Robert W. Kelley, 63, of 3148 Lincoln Way East, died Wednesday, March 26, 1997, at his home.
Born Feb. 22, 1934, in Chambersburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Clyde C. and Roberta A. Baer Kelley.
His wife, Irene Kessinger Kelley, died in 1992.
He was employed as a systems analyst at Letterkenny Army Depot for 3712 years, retiring in 1988.
A veteran of the Korean War, he served with the U.S. Navy.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was an honorary life member and past commander of Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion, Chambersburg; past commander of the 22nd District of American Legions of Pennsylvania; a life member of Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, Chambersburg; a life member of Chambersburg Club; and a member and past Chef DeGare of Voiture 509 Forty et Eight, Franklin County, Pa.
He also was a member of Military Order of Cooties, Pup Tent 72, Chambersburg; National AARP; General James Chambers Lodge 801, F&AM; Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Valley Forest 145, Shippensburg, Pa.; and Harrisburg Consistory, Harrisburg, Pa.
He is survived by two daughters, Mary L. Picking of Marion, Pa., and Donna F. Zelwak of Marlton, N.J.; two sons, Gregory A. Kelley of Orrtanna, Pa., and Benjamin G. DeHart of Fayetteville; one brother, Thomas C. Kelley of Chambersburg; 10 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Services will be held Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Arthur Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery in Chambersburg.
There will be no viewing; the family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

George B. Staup
BARTON, Md. - George B. "Husky" Staup, 83, of Walnut Hill Road, died Wednesday, March 26, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born March 9, 1914, in Lonaconing, Md., he was the son of the late James Staup and Grace Waddell Staup.
He was a former employee at Allegany Ballistics. He also worked at Waddell Mines, tended bar for Goodwill Fire Co. and worked in the sheriff's office of Allegany County for 23 years, retiring in 1978 as a captain.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He was a member of Goodwill Fire Co., Lonaconing; George's Creek Valley 161 AF&AM Masonic Lodge, Lonaconing; Loyal Order of Moose 348, Frostburg, Md.; Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 245, Cumberland, Md.; United Commercial Travelers 179, Cumberland; and Senior Citizens of Barton.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Eva M. Clark Staup; one daughter, Jo Ann M. McCabe of Hagerstown; one son, George Lewis Staup of Hagerstown; two sisters, Margaret "Peg" Vinci of Nikap, Md., and Betty Robeson of Westminster, Md.; one granddaughter; one grandson; one stepgranddaughter; one stepgreat-granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Gladys Burkett, Anna Johnson, Edith Wiebrecht and Edna Cameron; and three brothers, James Staup, Leslie Staup and Galen Staup.
Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home in Lonaconing. The Rev. John S. Park will officiate. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Moscow Mills, Md.
Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, where Goodwill Fire Co. will hold a memorial service at 7 p.m., and George's Creek Valley 161 AF&AM will hold a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.

Anna M. F. Stum
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Anna M. Files Stum, 86, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, March 26, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born Aug. 7, 1910, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John William Files and Eleanor Camel Hudspith. Her parents died when she was young, and she was raised by the late Jacob Statten and Amanda Crane Files.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy A. Stum.
She was employed by Perfection Garment Co. She also had been employed by the Maryland School for the Deaf, Frederick, Md.
She is survived by nieces and nephews; and a close friend, Mary Aikens of Martinsburg.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Ido Way Files; and three brothers, William Files, Jacob Files and Fred W. Files; one half sister, Mable Files; and one half brother, John Bruce Hudspith.
Services will be held Saturday at 9:15 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Eddie H. Edmonds will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

Eleanor I. Hop
Eleanor Irene Hop, 82, of Clearview Nursing Home, and formerly of Phoenix, died Thursday, March 27, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born March 15, 1915, in Mount Clemens, Mich., she was the daughter of the late Robert and Gladys Moore Forton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald H. Hop, in 1988.
She is survived by one daughter, Marilyn J. Forrester of Hagerstown; one son, David D. Hop of Gold Canyon, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Alameda Curtis; and one brother, John Forton.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

Jack H. Staubs, 73, of 521 Beaver Creek Road, Hagerstown, who died Wednesday, March 26, was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Europe during World War II.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Isabelle K. Dick, 79, of Route 6, died Wednesday, March 26, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born July 17, 1917, in Charles Town, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Bertie Ott Kidwiler.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Burley A. Dick.
She retired from Crown Cork & Seal.
She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church at Uvilla.
She was an avid quilter and seamstress.
She is survived by one daughter, Phyllis Petrucci of Martinsburg; one brother, Wade Kidwiler of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; two great-grandchildren, Tony J. Petrucci and Andrea C. Kackley; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Burley A. Dick Jr.; four sisters, Sarah Childs, Florence Griffith, Louise Kidwiler and Virginia Kidwiler; and three brothers, Adam Kidwiler, Calvin Kidwiler and Charles Kidwiler.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Thomas C. Jacoby will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
