James H. Baker Sr.
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - James Howard Baker Sr., 82, of Martinsburg, died Monday, March 31, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born May 8, 1914, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Jacob H. and Hattie Rentch Baker.
He retired from Martin Marietta. He was the owner and operator of Baker TV Repair.
He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Linton Baker; four daughters, Joyce A. Luber of Winchester, Va., Gloria G. Glesner of Riverdale, Md., Linda L. Brown of Martinsburg, and Sherry G. Heck of Bedington, W.Va.; one son, James Howard Baker Jr. of Martinsburg; one sister, Margaret Birgam of Charles Town, W.Va.; one brother, William C. Baker of Martinsburg; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Terry Dale Baker; and one brother, Charles Baker.
Services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Walter F. Bowers will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Oscar L. Jones
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Oscar L. Jones, 86, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, April 1, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born Feb. 15, 1911, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Andrew J. and Maggie Carpenter Jones.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Williams Jones. They were married in 1939.
He was a graduate of the Hampton Institute.
He retired from dietetics at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II.
He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, where he was church organist and coordinator of music; and was in the senior choir and Voices of Tomorrow.
He also was a member of the Retired Men's Chorus; American Federation of Musicians Local 770; Marshall-Holly-Mason Post 120; NARFE, and was president from 1982 to 1983; AARP; NAACP; Sumner/Ramer Reunion; Eastern Panhandle Travel Club; and Senior Citizens Advisory Council. He was past commander and adjutant of American Legion Post 102; was Scout Master of Troop 45 from 1938 to 1943; was a past member of board of directors of the Senior Center; and played in dance bands from 1933 to 1987.
He is survived by one daughter, Linda Lee of Martinsburg; one sister, Christine Hill of Denton, Md.; a close friend, Virginia Taylor of Martinsburg; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, Evangeline Byrd, Alyce Greene, Inez Turner, Alda Jones and Jacqueline Brown; and five brothers, Russell Jones, William Jones, Jesse Jones, Norman Jones and Herman Jones.
Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. The Rev. Alfred E. Statesman will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home.
The family will meet at the home of his daughter, Linda Lee, on Friday at 12:15 p.m. before going to the church.
The casket will be taken to the church one hour prior to the services on Friday.
M. Catherine Etter
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - M. Catherine Etter, 82, of 202 Village Square and formerly of 18 Steiger Ave., Mercersburg, Pa., died March 3, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born July 11, 1914, in Lemasters, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Alvin C. and Ethel M. Small Etter.
She was employed as a bookkeeper by the former L.S. Cook & Son John Deere Co. and for over 20 years worked at the former Brener's Furniture Store, both of Chambersburg. She worked for 11 years in the installment loan department of Chambersburg Trust Co.
She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Mercersburg.
She is survived by five cousins, Dorothy V. Fritz, Vera Zimmerman, and Louise Washinger, all of Chambersburg, Richard L. Etter of Ripon, Calif., and Bobbie Reese of Hanover, Pa.
She was the last member of her immediate family.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas Cemetery, St. Thomas, Pa. The Rev. W. David Kent will officiate.
There will be no viewing or visitation.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

FORT LITTLETON, Pa. - Norman Sheffield Sr., 62, of HCR 75, Box 296, who died Monday, March 31, 1997, was preceded in death by two sons, Randy Blaine Sheffield and Robert James Sheffield.
Joseph R. Cline
MYERSVILLE, Md. - Joseph R. Cline, 59, of Harp Hill Road, died Tuesday, April 1, 1997, at his home.
Born Nov. 23, 1937, in Frederick County, Md., he was the son of the late Grayson R. and Mildred Naille Cline.
He owned and operated Joseph R. Cline and Son Excavating, Myersville, for 35 years.
He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Wolfsville, Md.
He also was a member of Elks Lodge 684, Frederick, Md. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Blank Cline; two daughters, Julie F. Zebroski of Woodsboro, Md., and Judy L. Cline of Germantown, Md.; one son, Jerry "Jake" R. Cline of Myersville; one sister, Raetta M. Stotelmyer of Wolfsville; two brothers, Richard "Sonny" N. Cline and Floyd E. Cline, both of Myersville; six grandchildren; three nieces and five nephews.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. The Rev. David Howell and the Rev. Ronald A. Beverlin will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

SARASOTA, Fla. - Robert J. Wyand, of Sarasota, and formerly of Keedysville, died Dec. 31, 1996, in Florida.

Margaret L.M. Miller
Margaret Lillie Mae Miller, 88, of 18034 Putter Drive, Hagerstown, died Thursday, April 3, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 2, 1902, in Frederick, Md., she was the daughter of the late Edward and Lillie Mae Wachter Bentz.
She is survived by her husband, Austin M. Miller Sr.; one son, Austin M. Miller Jr. of Frederick; one sister, Helen Bruchey of Hagerstown; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Etchison Memorial Chapel of Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The Rev. Joseph R. Foster will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.

James L. Jones Sr.
MERCERSBURG, Pa. - James L. Jones Sr., 75, of 229 S. Fayette St., died Thursday, April 3, 1997, at his home.
Born Jan. 19, 1922, in Mercersburg, he was the son of the late John W. and Florence M. McCullough Jones.
He was employed by the former C.B. Zitzman Grocery, Mercersburg. He was employed in the transportation department at Letterkenny Army Depot until his retirement in April, 1983, after 42 years of service.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II in the European Theater.
He was a charter member and former commander of Lewis H. Himes American Legion Post 830 of Mercersburg, where he was recently recognized as being a 50-year member of this organization. He also was a member of the AARP.
He is survived by his wife, Mary E. "Betty" Cuff Jones, whom he married Jan. 3, 1951; three daughters, Sandra E. Burhanan and Nancy Jones, both of Mercersburg, and Florence M. Jones of Biglerville, Pa.; three sons, James L. Jones Jr., Charles W. Jones and Curtis E. Jones, all of Mercersburg; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Usley Jackson and one brother, Samuel Jones.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg. The Rev. Patricia A. Tillman will officiate. Burial with military graveside services by Charles Nitterhouse, VFW Post 1599, Chambersburg, Pa., will be in Zion Union Cemetery, Mercersburg.

Gareth W. Kline
MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Gareth W. Kline, 58, of Hawbottom Road, died Thursday, April 3, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.
Born March 7, 1939, in Wolfsville, Md., he was the son of the late Merle R. and Mary E. Delauter Kline.
He was a 1957 graduate of Middletown High School.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves, having served from 1957 until 1965.
He was a member of Amvets Post 9, Middletown and the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen M. Baker Kline; two daughters, Wanda L. Kline and Tammy L. Clark, both of Middletown; four sisters, Doris Reel of Hagerstown, Peggy Frushour of Wolfsville, Nancy Warrenfeltz of Smithsburg and Dorothy Harshman of Frederick; three brothers, Richard Kline of Myersville, Md., George Kline of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and Howard Kline of Virginia; five grandchildren; a special friend, J.J. Horseman of Middletown; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Maynard Kline.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Ricketts Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Myersville. The Rev. Michael Knight will officiate.
