Samuel B. Dunkin
CASCADE - Samuel Benjamin Dunkin, 90, of 25227 Military Road, died Thursday, April 3, 1997, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.
Born April 7, 1906, in Foxville, Md., he was the son of the late David Isaac and Viola Ellen Hays Moser Dunkin.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margie Marie Bowman Dunkin, on July 25, 1968. They were married Dec. 28, 1932.
He was employed by Watson's Sawmill, Foxville. Prior to retiring in 1974, he was employed by the Western Maryland Railroad as a trackman and operated machines on the tracks for 38 years.
He was a member of Pleasant Valley Church of God.
He was a former member of the Cascade American Legion Post 239 and Loyal Order of Moose, Hagerstown. He was a life member of Blue Ridge Summit Volunteer Fire Co.
He is survived by his wife, Blanche M. Ray Dunkin, whom he married March 6, 1986; one daughter, Mary M. McCullough of State Line, Pa.; four sons, Samuel D. "Buddy" Dunkin and David E. Shilling, both of Cascade, Lester Shilling of Sabillasville, Md., and Braden Shilling of Shady Grove, Pa.; one stepdaughter, Esther L. Crist of Sharpsburg; two stepsons, Clarence A. Crist and George W. Crist, both of Sharpsburg; one sister, Fern Fox of Hagerstown; 12 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren, step grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters and five brothers.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, Pa. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley United Methodist Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Louella Koenig
SEMINOLE, Fla. - Louella Koenig, 77, of 12260 93rd Court, died Wednesday, April 2, 1997, at Columbia Largo Medical Center, Largo, Fla.
Born Dec. 2, 1919, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Hubert Harbaugh and Louella Catherine Eiler Schindel.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, C. Fred Koenig; one daughter, Jane S. Koenig of Marietta, Ga.; one son, John F. Koenig of St. Charles, Ill; one brother, Dr. William H. Schindel of Dallas; and one grandson.
Services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Leo W. McCumbee
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Leo W. "Cracket" McCumbee, 78, of Berkeley Springs, died Wednesday, April 2, 1997, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born July 27, 1918, in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Cecil L. and Mary E. Moss McCumbee.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Mae Wills McCumbee, in 1986.
He retired from Pennsylvania Glass Sand Corp. after 37 years.
He is survived by three daughters, JoAnn Boden of Clear Spring, Linda Bingaman and Darlene Waugh, both of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; four sons, Kenneth McCumbee, Richard McCumbee, Pete McCumbee and Roger McCumbee, all of Berkeley Springs; one sister, Mary Easton of Berkeley Springs; one brother, William "Mutt" McCumbee Sr. of Berkeley Springs; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, one son and two brothers, Cecil McCumbee Jr. and Franklin McCumbee.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, 106 S. Mercer St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Jack Hiles and the Rev. Shirley Hiles will officiate. Burial will be in Greenway Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.
Viewing will be held today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lucy M. Wolff
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Lucy M. Wolff, 101, of 201 Franklin Farm Lane, died Wednesday, April 2, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born April 16, 1895, in Fairfield, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William and Roberta Peters Cool.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank W. Wolff Sr., on Feb. 20, 1977.
She is survived by one daughter, Pauline Newman of Kissimmee, Fla.; one son, James A. Wolff of Fayetteville, Pa.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Dorothy Bass; and two sons, Robert Wolff and Frank Wolff.
Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. George S. Mouer Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery, Chambersburg.

James H. Mills
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - James H. Mills, 73, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, April 2, 1997, at his home.
Born May 1, 1923, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Sandy Alexander and Lula K. Huff Mills.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet Brown Mills.
He retired from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served during World War II.
He was past commander of Berkeley Post 14, American Legion.
He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police; BOP Elks 778; Martinsburg Lodge 120, Loyal Order of Moose and Newton D. Baker Post 896, VFW.
He is survived by one daughter, Betty Kemp of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; two sisters, Charlotte May and Rosalie Wyndham, both of Martinsburg; one brother, Billy Mills of Martinsburg; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Mae Stevens, Dorothy Pietch, Rosalie Mumford and Elsie Crawford; and two brothers, Sandy Mills Jr. and Clifford Mills.
Services and burial will be private.

Geraldine Z. DeStafeno
Geraldine Z. DeStafeno, 75, of 728 Antietam Drive, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, April 2, 1997, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
Born Aug.13, 1921, in Oxford, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mildred Cumo Zeuli.
Her husband, Samuel H. DeStafeno, died in 1972.
In 1958, she and her husband and partner, Vincent Cosmic, formed Dari-Desserts Inc. in Vermont. They subsequently purchased other cheese manufacturing companies in Vermont.
She was a co-founder of Jefferson Cheese Manufacturing in 1973. She retired in 1988.
She was of the Catholic faith.
She is survived by one daughter, Elaine C. Olson of Orange, Calif.; one son, Bruce N. DeStafeno of Clear Spring; one sister, Gloria Felczhak of Kingston, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Andrew Mohl will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Tabor Lutheran Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Arthur E. Froemel
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Arthur Edward Froemel, 61, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, April 2, 1997, at Veterans Affairs Nursing Home, Martinsburg.
Born June 1, 1935, on Long Island, N.Y., he was the son of the late Robert and Helen Boda Froemel.
He was employed as an electrical engineer.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served during the Korean War.
He is survived by two daughters, Suzanne Froemel of Olney, Md., and Karen A. Howard of New Market, Md.; and two grandchildren, Kaitlyn Howard and Robert W. Howard III.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Froemel.
A memorial mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Community Church, 12319 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, Md. Burial will be private.
Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
Betty L. Malott
Betty Lee Malott, 62, of 32 E. Washington St., Hagerstown, died Friday, April 4, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Dec. 13, 1934, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Charles Edward and Vernie Virginia Roser Wilson.
She was employed by Sunnyside Tavern, Falling Waters, W.Va.
She was a member of Calvary Temple, Williamsport.
She was an avid Bingo player.
She is survived by her husband, Woodrow W. "Woody" Malott of Hagerstown; one daughter, Kathy V. Petitfrere of Chambersburg, Pa.; five sons, Harold E. Wilson of Thomasville, N.C., Curtis W. Wilson, Robert R. Wilson and Donald W. Showe, all of Hagerstown and Gary W. Migneault of Smithsburg; one stepson, Ricki Malott of Hagerstown; two sisters, Jane Kerlin of Hagerstown and Shirley Myers of Sharpsburg; five brothers, David "Ed" Wilson, Francis "Sonny" Wilson, Marion "Bobby" Wilson, Ronald Wilson and Joseph Wilson, all of Hagerstown; one half brother, Charles Harper of Paw Paw, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one step-grandson.
She was preceded in death by one half sister, Margie Harper and one half brother, William Harper.
Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Robert Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
