Chester A. Finfrock
WILLIAMSPORT - Chester Arthur Finfrock, 79, of 16505 Virginia Ave., died Saturday, April 5, 1997, at Homewood Retirement Center in Williamsport.
Born April 2, 1918, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Howard Earl and Virgie Shank Finfrock.
His wife, Dorothy E. Finfrock, died in 1989.
He retired from Maryland Correctional Training Center, where he was a music teacher.
He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.
A lifelong musician, he was a member of the Civic Band, Hagerstown Municipal Band, and Rohrersville Band.
He is survived by two daughters, Beverly Miller of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Barbara Slifer of Boonsboro; one sister, Margaret Louise Finfrock of Hagerstown; four grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Thurman Finfrock; and one granddaughter.
Graveside services and burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.
Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
George R. Messinger Sr.
HARRISONVILLE, Pa. - George Robert Messinger Sr., 81, of HCR 64, and a resident of Caledonia Manor, Fayetteville, Pa., died Saturday, April 5, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Dec. 23, 1915, in Hudson, N.Y., he was the son of the late Alfred Messinger and Mary Bloom Kemmerer. He was stepson of the late Burton Kemmerer.
He retired from JLG in McConnellsburg, Pa., and was former justice of the peace and former tax collector of Licking Creek Township.
He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Church of the Nazarene in Harrisonville.
He is survived by his wife, Mary H. Rotz Messinger, whom he married July 2, 1966; one daughter, Georgina Hammond of Everett, Pa.; one son, George Messinger Jr. of Harrisonville; one sister, Catherine Miller of Allentown, Pa.; one brother, Alfred Messinger of Harrisburg, Pa.; four granddaughters; and one grandson.
He was preceded in death by sisters and brothers.
Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Church of the Nazarene in Harrisonville. The Rev. Dan Porterfield will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A viewing will be held at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc. in Harrisonville, today from 2 to 9 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at the church.
George V. Mong Jr.
BOONSBORO - George Valentin "Richard" Mong Jr., 80, of 7927 Sharpsburg Pike, died Sunday, April 6, 1997, at Reeder's Memorial Home in Boonsboro.
Born April 10, 1916, in Franklin County, Pa., he was the son of the late George V. and Susan Myers Mong Sr.
He was a member of Hagerstown Grace Brethren Church.
He also was a member of AARP National.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy E. Wolfe Mong; three daughters, Janet Lewis of Middletown, Md., Ann Sullivan of Hagerstown, and Carol Plum of Boonsboro; two sons, George V. Mong III of Fairplay, and Gary Mong of Hagerstown; a twin sister, Catherine Minnich of Waynesboro, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Mong and William Mong.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert L. Dell will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Irene H. Reichard
QUINCY, Pa. - Irene Harshman Reichard, 94, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home, and formerly of 7795 Wayne Highway, Waynesboro, Pa., died Saturday, April 5, 1997, at Quincy Home.
Born Jan. 6, 1903, in Elbrook, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John and Rebecca Baer Harshman.
Her husband, Edgar Glenn Reichard, died in 1946.
She attended Pigeon Hill School near Quincy.
She worked at Five Forks Fruit Packing House for 45 years, and then at Plasterer's Florist Greenhouse in Chambersburg, Pa., for 13 years.
She was a life long member of Solomon's Evangelical Lutheran Church near Chambersburg, where she was a member of the former King's Daughters Sunday School Class.
She is survived by one daughter, Glendora Moul of Chambersburg; one son, John E. "Bud" Reichard of Waynesboro; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Janet R. Martin; three sisters and eight brothers.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Solomon's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4856 Wayne Road, Chambersburg. Pastors Michael Allwein and Wilbur Besecker will officiate. Burial will be in Grindstone Hill Cemetery near Chambersburg.
A viewing will be held at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, Pa., Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Stella V. Mills
MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Stella V. "Sis" Mills, 76, of 133 N. Main St., died Sunday, April 6, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa.
Born March 17, 1921, in Six Mile Run, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Roy and Violet Barber Long.
Her husband, J. Ray Mills, died in 1992.
She and her husband owned and operated Mill's Texaco Garage of Smithfield, Pa., for a number of years. She was a former employee of Grove World Wide in Shady Grove, Pa., and was last employed at Mercersburg Market Place.
She was a member of First Church of God in Mercersburg.
She was a member and past president of Clarence Armstrong V.F.W. Post 6241 Auxiliary in Mercersburg.
She attended the senior citizens center at Fort Loudon Community Center in Fort Loudon, Pa.
She is survived by one daughter, Joann Bradley of Williamson, Pa.; three sons, Dennis Barton of Oak Harbor, Ohio, Ronald Barton of Valencia, Pa., and Terry Johnson of Uniontown, Pa.; three sisters, Helen LeClair of Michigan, Dorothy Martin of Alum Bank, Pa., and Donna Hochstetler of Virginia; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, James C. Barton; one sister, Betty Lester; and two grandsons.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg. The Rev. Ernest E. Pletcher, the Rev. Clair E. Ebersole, and the Rev. W. David Kent, M.D., will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery in Lemasters, Pa.

Carrie E.P. Turner
Carrie Elizabeth Poole Turner, 85, formerly of 524 George St., Hagerstown, died Saturday, April 5, 1997, at Colton Villa Nursing Home.
Born Aug. 21, 1911, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Albert and Ester Leona Poole.
Her husband, Roy Edward Turner, died in 1977.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Rose Louise Brooks and Violet Wilson, both of Hagerstown, and Mary Wheat of Texas; two sons, Donald G. Turner and Edward Eugene Turner, both of Hagerstown; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. George A. Limmer will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

Paul F. Royer
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Paul F. Royer, 87, of 930 Sunset Ave., died Sunday, April 6, 1997, at ManorCare Nursing Home, Chambersburg, Pa.
Born Feb. 4, 1910, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Thaddeus C. "Bud" and Daisey M. Holtzman Royer.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dolores L. Snurr Royer, in 1975.
He was a 1926 graduate of Washington Township High School at the age of 16. He was a 1927 graduate of Waynesboro Business College. He took Penn State Extension courses.
He was employed by Waynesboro Knitting Co. from 1927 to 1964 and in 1957 was promoted to superintendent. In then worked for Flagg-Utica Co., later named Genesco, in Shoemakersville, Pa., as plant superintendent. He was later promoted to vice president of the plant. He retired in 1976.
He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waynesboro.
He was a member of BPO Elks Lodge 731, Waynesboro.
He is survived by his wife, Amy Smith Hovis-Royer, whom he married on Oct. 5, 1984; one daughter, Brenda Ann Bredin of Orlando, Fla.; one son, Dr. Garfield P. Royer of Cashtown, Md.; one sister, Mildred Spangler of Waynesboro; four brothers, Samuel Royer, Robert Royer, James Royer and Ralph Royer, all of Waynesboro; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Kohr; two sisters, and four brothers.
Services will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor Richard A. Seaks will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Emma L. Hoffman
BELLEVILLE, Pa. - Emma L. "Dolly" Hoffman, 73, of Valley View Haven, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, April 2, 1997, at Lewistown Hospital, Lewistown, Pa.
Born July 11, 1923, in Munson, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Joseph M. and Lavinia Heane Wilson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene M. Hoffman, on April 30, 1985.
She was a 1941 graduate of Lewistown High School.
She was employed as an inspector by Fairchild Aircraft, retiring in 1981 after 40 years of service.
She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Lewistown.
She also was a member of the UAW Local 842 Retirees Club, Hagerstown; National Council of Senior Citizens; and Maryland State Council of Senior Citizens.
She is survived by one stepdaughter, Shirley Funk of Hagerstown; one stepson, Charles Hoffman of Hagerstown; two sisters, Evelyn M. Allen and Violet Swyers, both of Belleville, Pa.; one brother, William H. Wilson of Lewistown; three step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Wilson Snyder Dunkelberger; and one brother, Joseph O. Wilson.
Services were held Saturday, April 5, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Lewistown. The Rev. Frank D. Hughes officiated. Burial was in St. Mark's Cemetery, Lewistown.
