Hailey E. Gilks
Hailey E. Gilks, infant daughter of Corin M. M. and Jennifer L. Nugent Gilks, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 1996, at Washington County Hospital.
She was born Nov. 14, 1996.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick A. Nugent of Hagerstown; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Hunt of Hagerstown and Michael R. Gilks of Hebron, N.D.; maternal great-grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Raymond A. Goodrich of Sackets Harbor, N.Y.; and paternal great-grandmothers Vera M. Garratt of Leicestershire, England, and Mary Gilks of Bedfordshire, England.
Services will be held today at 10 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Andrew S. Mohl will officiate.
There will be no visitation.
Arrangements are by Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.
Harvey S. Gatrell
Harvey Samuel Gatrell, 65, of 742 Medway Road, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 1996, at the home of his daughter, Cheryl Gatrell, in Keedysville.
Born Aug. 26, 1931, in Sharpsburg, he was the son of the late John Henry and Mannie L. Writt Gatrell.
He was employed as a welder in the construction business.
He was of the Protestant faith.
In addition to his daughter, he is survived by one son, Raymond Gatrell of Berryville, Va.; two brothers, Floyd "Buck" Gatrell of Sharpsburg and Frederick Gatrell of Jefferson, Md.; three grandchildren; and a friend, Helen Difabbio.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mildred Combs, Helen Shoemaker and Charlotte Shoemaker; and six brothers, Donald Gatrell, Alvin V. Gatrell, Charles E. "Toon" Gatrell, John H. Gatrell Jr., Ralph J. Gatrell and Harry A. Gatrell.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Mt. View Cemetery, Sharpsburg. The Rev. John P. Silassy will officiate.
Friends may call at the Osborne Funeral Home, 425 South Conococheague St., Williamsport, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. for the convenience of family and friends.

Burrell J. Milburn
WILLIAMSPORT - Burrell Junior "Dick" Milburn, who died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 1996, is survived by his daughter, Angelena Kay Milburn of Hagerstown.
Margaret O. Hill
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Margaret Oliver "Maggie" Hill, R.N., 83, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Nov. 15, 1996, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born July 13, 1913, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Mary Minetta Frankenberry Oliver.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Monroe Hill Jr.
She was a 1931 graduate of Martinsburg High School. She graduated from Kings Daughters Hospital Training School as a registered nurse.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
She also was a member of Kings Daughters Hospital Alumni; the Quota Club; American Nurses Association; Shenandoah Valley Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution; Governor's Task Force Commission on Nursing Education; the West Virginia State Board of Examiners for Licensed Practical Nursing from Dec. 22, 1972 to June 30, 1977 and July 10, 1978 to June 30, 1982.
She was awarded Outstanding State Vocational Educators Award in 1975 in Health Occupation by the National Vocational Advisory Committee and served as secretary for the State Board of Examiners in West Virginia. She was the coordinator and instructor for the Berkeley County Vocational School for licensed practical nurses at James Rumsey from its inception until 1980.
Governor Arch Moore appointed her to the West Virginia Planning Commission for Nursing and later, Governor Jay Rockefeller appointed her to the Governor's Commission on Nursing.
She received the Red Cross Certificate for outstanding contributions as Instructor-Trainer and Instructor-Supervisor for 30 years in July 1977 and was awarded certification for Continuing Education by "The West Virginia State Nurses Association for Registered Nurses." She served on the Board of Directors for Potomac Comprehensive Diagnostic and Guidance Center and taught 25 years Red Cross Home Nursing and Instructor Courses.
She is survived by one daughter, Gay Hill Dawson of Atlanta; one son, Wayne C. Hill of Arlington, Va.; two sisters, Dorothy Kopp of Martinsburg and Anne Calandriello of Garfield, N.J., and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by six sisters, Mabel Frye, Katherine Miller, Lucy Long, Mary Gochenour, Eva McCullough, and Pearl Flowers and one brother, Russell Oliver .
Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. James D. Riley Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
James R. Alder
BOONSBORO - James Robert Alder, 72, of 8513 Old National Pike, died Friday, Nov. 15, 1996, at his home.
Born Sept. 22, 1924, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Robert Henson and Mary Ellen Kreps Alder.
He was a 1942 graduate of Hagerstown High School.
He was employed by Jamison Door Co., Hagerstown, until his retirement in 1981, after 39 years of service.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
He was a 50-year member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 340 and the W.D. Byron VFW Post 1936, Hagerstown.
He is survived by his wife, Olive J. Baker Alder, whom he married June 26, 1954; five sisters, M. Irene Swartz, Mary Catherine Morningstar, Ruth E. Semler, Jane J. Rock, and Helen Brashears, all of Hagerstown; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Frances V. Hoover and two brothers, Thomas E. Alder and William H. Alder.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Benevola United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Helen S. Smith officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro.

Clarence W. Slonaker
GLENGARY, W.Va. - Clarence W. Slonaker, 66, of Glengary, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 1996, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born Aug. 13, 1930, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Gold S. and Georgia Dunham Slonaker.
He was employed as a Berkeley County school bus driver, retiring after 28 years of service. He also was a farmer.
He was a member of Central Chapel Church, where he served as a trustee and president of the Adult Sunday School Class.
He also was a member of Council 15, J.O.U.A.M.; retired School Personnel of Berkeley County and the Farm Bureau
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, E. Irene Bohrer Slonaker; three daughters, Vickie Davis of Gerrardstown, W.Va., Belinda Linton and Lisa Shanholtz, both of Glengary; one son, Clarence W. "Bill" Slonaker Jr. of Glengary; nine grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl S. Slonaker and Arondell Slonaker.
Services will be held Sunday at 11:30 a.m. at Central Chapel Church. The Rev. Frank Douty and the Rev. Joe Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Central Chapel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, W.Va., today from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Carrie E. G. Vanderau
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Carrie Elizabeth Gossert Vanderau, 86, of 344 West 2nd St., died Friday, Nov. 15, 1996, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Feb. 14, 1910, in Mont Alto, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William E. and Ida E. Shockey Gossert.
She married her husband, Jacob I. Vanderau, on Sept. 7, 1929. He died on Nov. 3, 1983.
She was employed by Quincy Orphanage for a number of years in the food service department during the mid 1940s.
She was a member of the Quincy United Methodist Church, Quincy, Pa.
She is survived by one daughter, Ruby E. Vanderau of Waynesboro; one sister, Mae Oberholzer of Waynesboro; and two brothers, William Gossert of Chambersburg and George Gossert of Mont Alto.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Vernon Eugene Vanderau in 1930; three sisters and four brothers.
Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 South Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. James C. House will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Quincy Township, Pa.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Anna K. Happ
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Anna Katherine "Kitty" Happ, 90, of Franklin County Nursing Home since 1987 and previously of South 5th Street, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 1996, at the nursing home.
Born Nov. 2, 1906, in Edenville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Walter A. and Hannah Stevens Foreman.
She was employed as a seamstress in the garment industry in New York City for 45 years prior to retiring to Chambersburg in 1968.
She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Chambersburg.
She also was a member of Ladies Auxiliary of Chambersburg, VFW 1599; and Ladies Auxiliary of Dietrich-Brechbill American Legion 612, St. Thomas, Pa.
She is survived by four sisters, Clara V. Rohrer of Mercersburg, Pa., Arlene V. Swope of Hagerstown, Verda F. Rhodes of Upton, Pa. and Joyce A. Malone of St. Thomas, Pa.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Jane Harrison and Mae Fox, and three brothers, Ray Foreman, Frank Foreman and Paul W. Foreman.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas Cemetery with the Rev. Daniel Lawler officiating.
There will be no viewing.
