Josefine B. Hellmann, 93, of 300 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, died Sunday, April 13, 1997, at Williamsport Nursing Home.
She was born June 17, 1903, in Gottenheim, Germany.
Her husband, Herman Hellmann, died in 1972.
She was employed as a private chef in New York state.
She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church.
She is survived by a half-sister, Hedwig Beha of Fort Furtwangen, Germany; and nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. George Limmer as celebrant.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.
Arrangements are by Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, Hagerstown.
George E. Fischer
BOONSBORO - George Ernest "Ernie" Fischer, 85, of 7615 Overlook Drive, died Sunday, April 6, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 8, 1912, in Fort Howard, Md., he was the son of the late John George Andrew Fischer and Christine Senell Fischer.
He was founder and president of G.E. Fischer Printing Inc. in Fullerton, Md.
He was former vice president and, more recently, president and owner of Baltimore Grain Forwarders Inc.
He was past president of Baltimore City Chamber of Commerce.
He was a member of the Propeller Club of the United States and Audubon Society.
A veteran of World War II, he served as a captain with the U.S. Army in the European Theater, including the Battle of the Bulge.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Hack Fischer; one daughter, Juanita Bittle Guerassio of Baltimore; two sons, Wayne Helwig of Pennsylvania and Joseph G. Bittle Jr. of Baltimore; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by one son, Earl G. Bittle; and one sister, Dorothy Fischer.
Services were held Wednesday, April 9, at Lassahn Funeral Home, Overlea, Md.
Burial was in Gardens of Faith Cemetery, Baltimore County, Md.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to National Diabetes Association.
Richard C. Galati
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Richard Charles Galati, 66, of Hedgesville, and formerly of Jane Lew, W.Va., died Monday, April 14, 1997, at his home.
Born March 21, 1931, in Whitesville, N.J., he was the son of the late Charles L. and Helmar Sellsbourg Galati.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret L. Galati, in 1990.
He had been employed by Jersey Sandbolt Construction Co. in New Jersey.
He was of the Catholic faith.
He was a member of NRA.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta H. Galati; three daughters, Barbara J. Vitkauska of Phoenix, Va., Sue Ellen Blake of Far Hills, N.J., and Catherine Wright of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one son, Richard J. Galati of South Toms River, N.J.; one stepdaughter, Penny A. Carrillo of Inwood, W.Va.; three stepsons, Dennis J. Shawyer of Inwood, Ricky L. Shawyer of Severn, Md., and James W. Shawyer II of Hedgesville; three sisters, Ellie Thompson of Jackson, N.J., Nettie Perkig of Marysville, Calif., and Margie Del Ross of Wrightstown, N.J.; two brothers, Edward Galati of Old Bridge, N.J., and Arthur Galati of Custer, S.D.; six grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Walter Galati.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel, 2060 Rosedale Road, Martinsburg.
The Rev. Ada Ambrose will officiate.
Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Samuel F. Shirley
RANSON, W.Va. - Samuel Fairbanks Shirley, 62, of Ranson, died Sunday, April 13, 1997, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson.
Born March 3, 1935, in Ranson, he was the son of the late Lester Ray Shirley and Agnes Virginia Miller Shirley.
He was a 1953 graduate of Charles Town High School, Charles Town, W.Va.
He had been employed for 44 years by Charles Town Race Track in the mutual department.
Before that he was the bugler at the race track.
He was of the Lutheran faith.
He was a member of Charles Town Race Track Mutual Clerks Union.
He is survived by his former wife, Mae Shirley of Charles Town; two daughters, Roxann Berry of Fairfax, Va., and Patricia Robertson of Charles Town; one son, Michael A. Shirley of Ranson; and three grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Calvary Assembly of God Church, Ranson.
Pastor William Reed will officiate.
Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town.
The family will receive friends at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Nellie V.S. Angle
MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Nellie V. Shinham Angle, 92, of 7977 Royer Road, died Sunday, April 13, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born June 4, 1904, near Greencastle, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John M. and Cora E. Winger Shinham.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold R. Angle, in 1984.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Welsh Run Church of the Brethren in Mercersburg.
She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy J. Mills of Edenville, Pa., and Eleanor Miller of Mercersburg; four sons, John E. Angle and Harold R. Angle, both of Greencastle, Kenneth R. Angle of Mercersburg, and Charles L. Angle of Smithsburg; one sister, Cora E. Angle of Marion, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Donald E. Angle; one sister, Mary Brant; four brothers, J. Elmer Shinham, David Shinham, George Shinham and Frank Shinham; and two grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Welsh Run Church of the Brethren, 11420 Welsh Run Road, Mercersburg.
The Rev. C. Henry Hunsberger will officiate.
Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Minnich-Miller-May Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle, today from 7 to 8 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at the church Wednesday.

Mary I. Baker
Mary I. Baker, 40, of 1912 Day Road, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, April 15, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born in Washington County, she was the daughter of Leroy Hose of Fairplay and the late Mary Jane O'salley Hose.
She was employed by Potomac Edison Co.
She was a member of Wilson Chapel, Clear Spring.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Donald W. Baker; one daughter, Tammy Sowers of Hagerstown; one sister, Martha Hose of Hagerstown; three brothers, Leroy Hose Jr. of Laurel, Md., Tiny Hose of Sharpsburg and Buck Hose of Clear Spring; and one grandson.
She was preceded in death by one son, Donald Baker Jr.
Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
The Rev. Delavene Cunningham will officiate.
Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

Kathryn S. Fulton
MIAMI, Fla. - Kathryn Slayman Fulton, 78, of Miami, died Monday, April 14, 1997, at Aventura Hospital in North Miami, Fla.
Born in Hagerstown on April 6, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Mary and Perry Slayman.
She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Melzer of Funkstown; two sisters, Betty Henesy of Hagerstown and Doris Lennon of California; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her companion, William Carpenter of Miami.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Downs.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Mabel V.W. Henneberger
Mabel V. Welty Henneberger, 97, of Williamsport Nursing Home, and formerly of 1170 Kenley Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, April 15, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 13, 1900, in Keyser, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James F. and Ella Leary Morrison.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph A. Welty, in 1956.
She had been employed as an inspector by Fairchild Industries for 22 years.
She was a 60 year member of the Church of Christ, Leitersburg Pike.
She was a member and past president of AARP.
She is survived by her husband, Frank B. Henneberger of Boonsboro; four daughters, Anna Hurley of Springfield, Mont., Ivalle F. Fisher of Crest Park, Calif., Ella Kridler of Edgewater, Fla. and June Rowan of Hopkins, S.C.; two sons, James M. Welty of Knoxville, Md., and Roger E. Welty of Westminster, Md.; two stepdaughters, Cora Burger and Beverly Longanecker, both of Hagerstown; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Welty.
Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Church of Christ, 19644 Leitersburg Pike, Hagerstown.
Pastor Richard McGough will officiate.
Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.
