Mary A. Moats
Mary A. Moats, 79, of 13017 Resh Road, Hagerstown, died Sunday, April 13, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Dec. 16, 1917, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Darlington and Mary Rachel Chaney Davis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Moats, in 1984.
She was employed by Fairchild Aircraft for a number of years.
She was a member of Faith Temple.
She is survived by one son, John C. Moats of Hagerstown; two sisters, Annabelle Miller and Viola Burger, both of Hagerstown; one granddaughter and two grandsons.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Davis.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Faith Temple, Cearfoss.
The Rev. Ronnie Lynch will officiate.
Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
Mary E. Lewis
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Lewis, 31, of Route 2, Box 239, Berkeley Springs, died Monday, April 14, 1997, at War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs.
Born Nov. 29, 1965, in Cumberland, Md., she was the daughter of Donald Lee Lewis and Alice Louise Hunter Lewis of Berkeley Springs.
She was a security officer at F&M Bank in Martinsburg, W.Va.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hancock.
She also was a member of Martinsburg Jaycees, and recently was elected secretary.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her maternal grandmother, Mary Hunter of Cumberland; paternal grandmother, Emma Elizabeth Lewis of Frostburg, Md.; and aunts and uncles.
Services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hancock.
The Rev. Ray M. Rogers will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Hancock.
Friends will be received at Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Stanley E. Runk
MOUNT UNION, Pa. - Stanley E. Runk, 79, of 321 S. Jefferson St., died Friday, April 11, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Jan. 18, 1918, in Hill Valley, Pa., he was the son of the late Samuel A. and Catherine "Katie" Shue Runk.
He was a 1934 graduate of Mount Union High School.
He attended Shippensburg University.
He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the College of Agriculture at Penn State University.
He retired from the public school system as a teacher with 37 years of service.
He taught at schools in Spring City, Pa.; Juniata Joint High School, Mifflintown, Pa.; Washington Township High School, Waynesboro, Pa.; and Mount Union Area High School.
He also was a part-time instructor at the Pennsylvania State University College of Agriculture for 12 years.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Mount Union.
He served on the Pennsylvania State University College of Agriculture advisory council; was the innovator in establishing the first Future Farmers of America Handbook in Pennsylvania; was a member of the local, regional and state Agricultural Extension boards; was instrumental in establishing the Huntingdon County Conservation District, where he served as director and chairman for nine years; was a lifetime member of the Retired Teachers Association; a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, Pennsylvania Association University Alumni Association, Huntingdon County Elks Lodge, Huntingdon County Business and Industry, the American Legion Post in Mount Union; a past member of Waynesboro Lion's Club; and an honorary member of Alpha Tau Alpha fraternity at Pennsylvania State.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Helman Runk, whom he married on July 22, 1944; two daughters, Deborah Snow of Woodbury, N.J., and Mary K. McCullough of Martinsburg; one sister, Eva Hiles of Landenburg, Pa.; one half sister, Carolyn Baker of Huntingdon, Pa.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be held today at 1:30 p.m. at Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, 61 E. Shirley St., Mount Union.
The Rev. Kenneth Grundon will officiate, assisted by Joey Barrett.
Burial will be in Mount Union Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home today from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.

ST. THOMAS, Pa. - A. Elizabeth Boyer High, 89, of 97 Hade Road, and formerly of 265 S. Sixth St., Chambersburg, Pa., died Monday, April 14, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Jan. 29, 1908, in Letterkenny Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Joseph N. and Clara J. Stewart Wenger.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles E. Boyer, on Feb. 16, 1934.
She was preceded in death by her second husband, Clarence G. High, on Oct. 9, 1971.
She was employed as a seamstress by the former Stanley Co., Chambersburg, retiring in 1988.
She also had been employed by the former Interwoven Co., Chambersburg, and the former Hanson Hosiery Mill, Chambersburg.
She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Chambersburg.
She is survived by one daughter, Isabelle J. Scott of St. Thomas; two sons, Charles E. Boyer of Lakewood, Colo., and Harold A. Boyer of Chambersburg; one stepdaughter, Francis Eyer of Chambersburg; three sisters, Alice Eberly of Chambersburg, Cora Forrester of Shippensburg, Pa., and Janet Rosenberry of Orrstown, Pa.; two brothers, Arthur W. Wenger of Newville, Pa., and Richard J. Wenger of Chambersburg; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one step great-grandchild and six step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.
Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg.
The Rev. Stephen W. Hoffman will officiate.
Burial will be in Chambersburg Mennonite Cemetery.
Viewing will be held Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Herbert F. Price
SMITHSBURG - Herbert F. Price, 45, of Rachels Court, Smithsburg, died Monday, April 14, 1997, at his home.
Born February 25, 1952, in Frederick, Md., he was the son of the late Benjamin E. and B. Jane Norwood Price.
He was the stepson of Donna L. Price of Mt. Airy, Md.
He was employed by the Montgomery County Road Department for 25 years.
He was a member of South Mountain Rod and Gun Club, Smithsburg, and the Leitersburg Moose Lodge.
In addition to his stepmother, he is survived by his wife, Frances E. Binnix Price; three sons, Joseph A. Price, Christopher G. Price and Norman L. Price, all of Smithsburg; one sister, Mary Jo Wilson of Tucson, Ariz.; two brothers, Robert E. Price Sr. of Brunswick, Md., and John T. Price of Frederick; two half sisters, Julie Ann Price and Lisa Marie Price, both of Mt. Airy; and two half brothers, Brendan W. Price and Benjamin E. Price II, both of Mt. Airy.
Memorial services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave., Smithsburg.
The Rev. Jonathan D. Laye will officiate.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.

Hazel M. Collis
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Hazel Marie Collis, 75, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, April 15, 1997, at Heartland Nursing Home.
Born Jan. 1, 1922, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Frazier L. and Nornie Landis Miller.
She was employed as a custodian by Bedington Elementary School until her retirement.
She was a member of Pilgrim Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Banks Collis; four daughters, Connie Lee Pingley of Arborville, W.Va., Mary Ann Fanning of Sarasota, Fla., Patricia Mae McGurer of Venice, Fla., and Nancy Williams of Falling Waters, W.Va.; two sons, Charles M. Collis of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Nelson F. Collis of Gerrardstown, W.Va.; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth Miller, John Miller and Randolph Miller.
Services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
The Rev. J. Robert Thompson will officiate.
Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

Alice G.W. Thompson
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Alice G. Whipp Thompson, 73, of 303 Fairview Ave., died Wednesday, April 16, 1997, at Quincy United Methodist Home, Quincy, Pa.
Born on Oct. 3, 1923, in Middletown, Md., she was the daughter of the late James W. and Mamie C. Brown Whipp.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond C. "R.T." Whipp Sr., on April 8, 1992.
They were married Aug. 7, 1940.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by three sisters, Anna R. Martz, Naomi E. Judd and Catherine E. Six, all of Hagerstown; one brother, Charles Whipp of Williamsport; and a special friend, Bill Hedrick of Waynesboro.
She was preceded in death by one son, Raymond C. Thompson Jr.; one sister, Mary Ambrose; and four brothers, Clarence W. Whipp, Roy V. Whipp, Ray F. Whipp and Earl C. Whipp.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Green Hill Cemetery, 953 S. Potomac St., Waynesboro.
There will be no public viewing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Ethel M. Parlett
Ethel M. Parlett, 89, of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, April 16, 1997, at the home of her daughter, Betty L. Coyle, of Waynesboro, Pa.
Born in Shanktown, Md., she was the daughter of the late Charles F. and Minnie M. Myers Myers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy H. Parlett, in 1969.
She was employed by Evonne Kay Manufacturing, Waynesboro, retiring in 1975.
She had also been employed by L'Aiglon and Dorbee Manufacturing.
She was a member of I.L.G.W.U.
She boated the C&O Canal with her father from Cumberland, Md., to Georgetown.
She was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church of Shanktown.
In addition to Betty L. Coyle, she is survived by two other daughters, Mary C. Smith of Williamsport and Beverly A. Shanholtz of Hagerstown; three sons, Robert S. Myers of Hancock, Jack L. Myers and Kenneth L. Parlett, both of Hagerstown; one sister, Mary I. Royce of Hagerstown; one brother, Gilbert H. Myers of Knoxville, Tenn.; 25 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Lillie D. Rossman; three brothers, Lauren S. Myers, T. Edgar Myers and Joseph F. Myers; one half sister, Viola Snyder; and one half brother, Joseph Davis.
Services will be held Saturday at noon at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.
Burial will be in Shanktown Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Saturday one half hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
