Lewis M. Staubs
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Lewis M. Staubs, 77, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, April 15, 1997, at his home.
Born April 13, 1920, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Edward G. and Rosie Wilt Staubs.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Goldie Fern Hardy Staubs.
He was a 1939 graduate of Martinsburg High School.
He was employed as a supervisor by Martin Marietta until his retirement.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served during World War II.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
He also was a member of Robert White Lodge 67, A.F.&A.M.; Newton D. Baker Lodge 896, VFW; and the American Legion of Williamsport.
He is survived by one daughter, Beverly B. Mandalou of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; one sister, Jeanette Pitzer of Pikeside, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Stacy Gonzalez and Timothy Rogers; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, Edna Bolton, Isabell Keiter, Roda Lack, Elizabeth White and Rachel Butler; and four brothers, Harry J. Staubs, Charles E. Staubs, Clarence W. Staubs and Douglas Staubs.
Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
The Rev. G. Edward Grove will officiate.
Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Donell R. Lee
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Donell Ricardo Lee, 47, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, April 15, 1997, at Howard University Hospital, Washington, D.C.
Born March 23, 1950, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Shirley Scott Lee of Washington, D.C., and the late John Anthony Lee Sr.
He was employed as a mechanic by D & D Auto Repair.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of I.B.P.O. Elks Lodge 402, Pride of Berkeley, where he was a former exalted ruler, trustee and treasurer.
He was a member of James A. Chester Antler Guard Unit 3 of W.Va.; Past Exalted Rulers Blue Ridge Council 84, I.B.P.O.E.W. of Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia and a member of the West Virginia State Association of I.B.P.O.E.W. and was a past state president.
He was a special deputy of District 5 of West Virginia of Improved Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the World.
He was a member of Mt. Pisgah Lodge 3, F.&A.M., and was a past master. He was a member of I.M. Carper Consistory 192; a 32nd Degree Scottish Right Mason; and a member of Nile Temple 27, A.E.A.O.N.M.S. Shrine.
He was past worthy patron of Bethel Chapter 36, Order of the Eastern Star.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Page Lee; four daughters, Natalie R. Lee at home, Deborah Foreman of Frederick, Md., Karen Lee and Denise Lee, both of Washington, D.C.; one son, Kevin J. Lee of Washington, D.C.; one sister, Denise Caldwell of Washington, D.C.; one brother, John Lee of Washington, D.C.; six grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.
Services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
The Rev. Charles Dekle and the Rev. Ronald Paige will officiate.
Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family will meet at his home on Saturday at 1:45 p.m. before going to the funeral home for the services.
Elsie M. Mahone
Elsie Marie Mahone, 59, of 623 George St., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, April 15, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 27, 1938, in Charles Town, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late David H. and Daisy B. Johnson Morningstar.
She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church.
She is survived by her husband, William R. Mahone; three daughters, Rhonda Mahone and Billie Jo Mahone, both at home, and Penny Devore of Hagerstown; one son, Tony G. Reeder of Hagerstown; five sisters, Katherine Demery of Leetown, W.Va., Mamie Robison of Monongahela, Pa., Betty Crawford of Sumter, S.C., Violet Myers and Barbara Mills, both of Hagerstown; two brothers, Robert Morningstar of Hagerstown and Gene Morningstar of Williamsport; seven grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Connie Short; and one brother, John Morningstar.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
The Rev. Victor Zuck will officiate.
Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

Garnet L. Wingert
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -Garnet L. Wingert, 69, of 645 Stouffer Ave., died Tuesday, April 15, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born July 19, 1927, in St. Thomas Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Clarence G. and Myrtle E. Forrester Wingert.
He was employed by Chambersburg Engineering Co. for 20 years, retiring in 1986.
Earlier he was a self-employed milk hauler in the Chambersburg area for 11 years.
He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chambersburg.
He also was a member of BPO Elks Lodge 600; Loyal Order of Moose 842 and Norland Chapter 326, all of Chambersburg. He enjoyed woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Mary A. Glass Wingert; one daughter, M. Linda Miller of York, Pa.; two sons, Dale G. Wingert of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Dennis R. Wingert of Carlisle, Pa.; two sisters, Mabel Bard of St. Thomas, Pa., and Geraldine Hoover of Chambersburg; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister and one granddaughter.
Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg.
The Rev. Karen Minnich-Sadler will officiate.
Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

Belle Y. Bitner
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Belle Yeager Bitner, 102, of Menno-Haven, Chambersburg, and formerly of 1311 S. Fourth St., Chambersburg, died Wednesday, April 16, 1997, at Menno-Haven.
Born Oct. 4, 1894, in St. Thomas Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late David and Annie Byers Yeager.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Bitner, on Dec. 11, 1962.
She was employed as a custodian for eight years by Chambersburg High School.
She later worked in the mailroom of the Public Opinion, Chambersburg, retiring at the age of 82.
She was a member of Chambersburg Bible Church, Chambersburg.
She is survived by one grandson, Robert D. Friedly of Mertztown, Pa.; one great-grandson; and a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Maxine Elizabeth Friedly; and 11 sisters and brothers.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg.
The Rev. John R. Springer will officiate.
Burial will be in Coble Cemetery, St. Thomas.
Viewing will be held Friday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Donald W. Crawford
WILLIAMSPORT - Donald W. "Don" Crawford, 61, of 16025 Plumtree Lane, died Wednesday, April 16, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 26, 1935, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late John Wilmer and Effie Florence Wakenight Crawford.
He retired from Washington County National Bank in Williamsport in 1995 after 37 years in banking.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was a member of St. James Brethren Church for 50 years.
He also was a member of Funkstown American Legion Post 211, Red Men of Williamsport Tribe 84, Eagles Inc. of Waynesboro, Pa., and an associate member of Beaver Creek Country Club.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Shifler Crawford; two daughters, Melinda J. Beard of Williamsport, and Cherie K. Moser of Stephens City, Va.; three sons, Donald Duane Crawford of Williamsport, Jason W. Crawford of Big Pool, and Alan S. Crawford, at home; one sister, Gloria V. Roth of Williamsport; one brother, Merle L. Crawford of Boonsboro; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John L. Crawford and Gordon W. Crawford.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Brian Moore will officiate.
Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Thomas Whitaker
Thomas Whitaker, 82, formerly of 30812 N. Jonathan St., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, April 16, 1997, at Northampton Manor, Frederick, Md.
Born Aug. 28, 1914, in Columbia, S.C., he was the son of the late Cap and Nellie James Whitaker.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude E. Dowery Whitaker, in 1981.
He was a shoe repairman for many years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II in the European and Pacific theaters.
He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
He is survived by one daughter, N. Lavern Whitaker of Baltimore; three sons, Thomas A. Whitaker of Frederick, James E. Whitaker of Woodstock, Md., and Gordon K. Dowery of Silver Spring, Md.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Etheleen Jones.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, Hagerstown.
The Rev. Walter C. Hollins will officiate.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Virginia L. Winters
Virginia Louise Winters, 74, of 11303 Lakeside Drive, Hagerstown, died Thursday, April 17, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born June 21, 1922, in Frostburg, Md., she was the daughter of the late Alex and Hattie Metcalf Densmore.
She was employed by Garlock and Clearview nursing homes.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband, John L. Winters Sr.; one daughter, Joan Sigler of Hagerstown; two sons, John L. "Jack" Winters Jr. and Larry Winters, both of Hagerstown; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
The Rev. Keith Boisvert will be celebrant.
Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
