Donna J. Hewett
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Donna J. Hewett, 47, of 15 Lurgan Ave., died Friday, April 18, 1997, at Shippensburg Health Care Center.
Born Nov. 22, 1949, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of Edith P. Hahn Hill of Willow Hill, Pa., and the late Albert C. Hill.
She had been employed by Hoffman Mills, Shippensburg. She also had worked for the Sheraton Hotel, Hagerstown.
She was a member of the Greencastle Baptist Church.
She was a past vice president and treasurer of the Automobile Racing Club of Hagerstown. She was a former social member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post 223, Shippensburg.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Edward M. Hewett; one son, Michael A. Cox of Fort Loudon, Pa.; one sister, Mary K. Weddle of Mercersburg, Pa.; one brother, Kenneth E. Smith of Philadelphia, and two grandchildren.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, 112 W. King St., Shippensburg. The Rev. Charles Schroer will officiate. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, West Pennsboro Township.
Viewing will be held Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Francis H. Shoemaker
WILLIAMSPORT - Francis H. "Pete" Shoemaker, 85, of 11021 Kemps Mill Road, died Thursday, April 17, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 6, 1911, in Mills Stone, Md., he was the son of the late John M. and Mary J. Cassidy Shoemaker.
He was employed as a maintenance man by The Herald-Mail Co., retiring in 1978 after many years of service.
He helped restore Fort Frederick.
He was a member of Mt. Calvary Church of God, Clear Spring.
He also was a member of the Fort Frederick Ruritan Club. He was a past member of the Civilian Conservation Corp.
He is survived by his wife, Julia E. Martin Shoemaker, whom he married in 1938; two daughters, Jean Snyder and Gail Rubeck, both of Clear Spring; one brother, Oscar Shoemaker of Punta Gorda, Fla.; one sister, Dorothy Weaver of Maugansville; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Green Lawns Memorial Park, Williamsport. The Rev. Robert E. Timmons will officiate.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Church of God, Western Pike, Clear Spring.

John M. Custer
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - John Mitchell "Uncle Mitch" Custer, 85, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, April 17, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born Feb. 27, 1912, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Daniel S. and Mary E. Cook Custer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Wilson Custer.
He retired from DuPont.
He was a member of the Vanville Church of Christ.
He is survived by one sister, Margaret Virginia Yost of Martinsburg; one granddaughter, Kimberly A. Custer of Martinsburg and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Charles "Buddy" Custer and Terry L. Custer; one grandson, C. Michael Custer; five sisters, Ola Brannon, Mary Rauch, Myrtle Wisecarver, Elsie Custer and Vernie Custer and three brothers, Nelson P. Custer, Lloyd S. Custer and Samuel Custer.
Services will be held Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Thomas J. Huff will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Daniel E. Brown
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Daniel Everett Brown, 38, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, April 16, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born Dec. 26, 1958, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late John M. and Edith Smith Brown.
He was a self-employed carpenter.
He was a veteran of the Merchant Marines.
He is survived by his fiancee, Deana Murphy; three daughters, Danielle Marie Brown, Mandy Leigh Brown and Nicole Lee Brown, all at home; three sisters, Mary Cathleen O'Rourke of Pennsylvania, Eileen Dawn Bell of Preston, Md., and Peggy Ann Langford of Kearneysville, W.Va.; and one brother, James M. Brown of Tennessee.
Services will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Mark D. Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Providence Cemetery, west of Hedgesville, W.Va.

Joseph J. Kugler
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Joseph Junior Kugler, 75, of 22 Mt. Vernon Terrace, and formerly of 29 W. Second St., died Thursday, April 17, 1997, at his home.
Born March 17, 1922, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Chalmers Fletcher and Anna V. Narcaruez Kugler.
He was a 1940 graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School. He attended Catawba College in North Carolina and Western Maryland College in Westminster, Md., where he was enrolled in classes for business administration. While at Western Maryland College, he participated in football, boxing and track.
He was employed by The Franklin County Housing Authority, having retired as the executive director in 1987. He also had worked at McDowell Electric Co., Wayne Distributors and Eagles Club Inc.
He was head coach of the Waynesboro Tigers football team from 1946 to 1952, compiling a record of 53 victories, seven losses and two ties.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Military Police Corps in The Alaskan Department and the 11th Air Force, having served as provost marshal and intelligence and security officer during World War II. He had worked his way up the ranks to captain when he was discharged in 1946. He was the first commanding officer of the National Guard company in Waynesboro.
He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church.
He also was a member of the National AARP; AARP local chapter 2977; Loyal Order of Moose; BPO Elks 731; a life member of VFW; Zembo Temple; Waynesboro Shrine Club; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite; Acacia Lodge 586; Scottish Rite Club South Pennsylvania Chapter; Eagles Club Inc.; American Legion Post 15; Disabled American Veterans; A.T.H. & L. Fire Co.; Fraternal Order of Eagles and Order of the Owls.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores L. Kugler, whom he married Aug. 14, 1943; two daughters, Donna L. Shearer of Hanover, Pa., and Susan K. Wise of East Greenville, Pa.; two granddaughters; two grandsons and three great-grandsons.
Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Rev. Richard Seaks will officiate. Burial, with full military honors by VFW, Chambersburg, Pa., will be in Green Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Earl G. Wean Sr.
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Earl Garbison Wean Sr., 79, of Charles Town, died Thursday, April 17, 1997, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born June 6, 1917, in Bridgewater, Va., he was the son of the late William Henry and Sally Eaton Wean.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elma M. Foley Wean, on March 24, 1993.
He was employed as a freight truck driver with the Teamsters Union until his retirement. He operated the George Street Service Station and the Jefferson Taxi-Cab Co., both in Charles Town.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. He received the World War II Victory Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Philippine Decoration Ribbon with One Star and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was a member of Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, Burkittsville, Md.
He also was a member of Teamster Local Union 557; VFW Post 3522, Charles Town; and Disabled American Veterans and Jackson-Perks American Legion Post 71, Charles Town.
He is survived by five daughters, Nancy E. Smith and Brenda K. Hamby, both of Charles Town, Dorothy G. Sullivan of Shenandoah Junction, W.Va., Sandra S. Giffin of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and Rita G. Haven of Harrisonburg, Va.; four sons, Donald R. Wean of Martinsburg, Earl G. Wean Jr. of Shepherdstown, David W. Wean of Charles Town and Steven Wean of Harrisonburg; two sisters, Edith Gratton of Bridgewater, Va., and Shirley Catiano of Mount Crawford, Va.; one brother, Lewis Wean of Westminster, Md.; 23 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant View Church of the Brethren. The Rev. David Bowman will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Church Yard Cemetery.
Friends will be received Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home.
Jeanne I. Cannon
FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Jeanne Irene Cannon, 72, of Falling Waters, died Thursday, April 17, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born June 6, 1924, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Howard Nelson and Dorothy Tabler Miller. She spent several years in the Orient.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold C. Cannon.
She was a graduate of Martinsburg High School. She attended Shepherd College and the Baltimore School of Business.
She was a member of Little Falls Presbyterian Church, where she was actively involved in various groups. She was president of the Women's Organization, assistant church treasurer and an Elder. She was past youth group leader and was a member of the church choir.
She is survived by two daughters, Melody Arvin of Martinsburg and Marianne Fine of Hedgesville, W.Va.; three stepsons, Keith Cannon and Harold Cannon, both of Oakland, Md., and Jerry Cannon of Michigan and a number of grandchildren.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Little Falls Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Lon Snelson will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

Bernard W. Henry
INWOOD, W.Va. - Bernard William Henry, 65, of Rt. 2, died Thursday, April 17, 1997, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born March 24, 1932, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., he was the son of the late William B. Henry and Minnie V. Hovermale Henry DeHaven.
He was employed by Reid's Distributor until his retirement in 1994.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War.
He was a member of Martinsburg Lodge 120, Loyal Order of Moose.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Helen D. Furley Henry; one daughter, Tammy Brunk of Maryland; two sons, Michael B. Henry and Joseph A. Henry, both of Maryland; one sister, S. Jean Brown of Concord, N.C.; one brother, Fred Henry of Ellicott City, Md.; eight grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews, including Sheila Willingham of Inwood, whom he raised.
Services will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Mt. View Church of the Brethren. The Rev. Carl Burleson will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
