Virginia Louise Winters, 74, of 11303 Lakeside Drive, Hagerstown, who died Thursday, April 17, 1997, was preceded in death by one son, Raymond Winters, in 1989.
William P. Spickler Sr.
HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - William "Bill" Preston Spickler Sr., 80, of Bolivar Heights, died Friday, April 18, 1997, at his home.
Born Feb. 24, 1917, in Weverton, Md., he was the son of the late Harry Preston and Ruth Garber Spickler.
He was a 1936 graduate of Shepherd College, Shepherdstown, W.Va.
He was employed by the Railway Mail Service on the B&O Canal from 1938 to 1958.
He retired from the Turf Concrete Co., Charles Town, W.Va.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II and the Korean War.
He was a member of Camp Hill-Wesley United Methodist Church, Harpers Ferry.
He also was a member of the Jefferson County Cotillion Club.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jeanne Gray Spickler; two sons, William P. Spickler Jr. of Los Angeles and Jeffrey P. Spickler of Shepherdstown; one sister, Frances Meem of Dickerson, Md.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Gray Lakin Spickler Sr., and one sister, Louise V. Kern.
Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Camp Hill-Wesley United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Royce Simpson and the Rev. Beverly Stang will officiate.
Burial will be in Fairview Lutheran Cemetery, Bolivar, W.Va.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry.

Thomas W. Lennon
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Thomas Walter Lennon, 89, of Charles Town, died Wednesday, April 16, 1997, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Born Feb. 17, 1908, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Paul Dickenson and Katherine Anderson Dickenson Lennon.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Bowers Lennon.
He was employed in advertising. He sold wall coverings at a store in Berryville, Va., for eight years and later at Bower's Store for 10 years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II.
He was a member of St. James Catholic Church.
He also was a member of American Legion Post 071, Charles Town.
He served on the Veterans Affairs Medical Center board of directors from 1974 to 1975 and was a prayer boy for Jesus.
He is survived by two sons, Thomas A. Lennon of New Orleans and Robert L. Lennon of Miami Beach, Fla., and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Katherine Walsh.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church.
The Rev. Bert Valdes will officiate.
Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home, Ranson.
Peggy E.D. Stine
ST. THOMAS, Pa. - Peggy E. Decker Stine, 63, of 4688 Race Track Road, died Friday, April 18, 1997, at her home.
Born Sept. 18, 1933, in Greencastle, Pa., she was the daughter of Helen M. Brandt Decker Beaver of Greencastle and the late Robert C. Decker Sr.
She was the stepdaughter of H. Kenneth Beaver of Greencastle.
She was employed by Shermans Department Store, Waynesboro, Pa., for two years.
She also worked at Buchanan Lanes in Mercersburg, Pa., for 26 years, where she managed the bowling lanes until 1996.
She was also a homemaker.
She was a member of the 600 Club in the bowling leagues; AARP Norland 3261, Chambersburg, Pa., since 1982.
She bowled in the Bowlett and Buchanan Church Leagues, where she served as president and in other offices, and in Franklin County Youth Bowling Leagues, serving as secretary and in other offices.
In addition to her mother and stepfather, she is survived by her husband, Ambrose Junior Stine, whom she married on March 19, 1951; one daughter, Pandora S. Yeakle of Greencastle; one son, Charles D. Stine of St. Thomas; two sisters, Louise Carmack of Chambersburg and Joan Kauffman of Waynesboro; two brothers, Charles L. Decker of Derry, N.H., and Fred M. Decker of Hagerstown; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one son, Randy A. Stine, on Nov. 17, 1977 and a brother, Robert Decker.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Minnich-Miller-May Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle.
The Rev. Alvin E. Goetz will officiate.
Burial will be in Brown's Mill Cemetery, Kauffman Station, Pa.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Elenore A. Johnson
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Elenore A. Johnson, 71, of 528 Stanley Ave., died Saturday, April 19, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Jan. 3, 1926, in Mt. Cobb, Wayne County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Anna Wash Baranoski.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward R. Johnson, in 1992.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Chambersburg, where she also was a member of Columbian Ladies.
She is survived by one daughter, Debra Fry of Harrisburg, Pa.; three sons, Joseph M. Johnson of Dover, Pa., Kenneth S. Johnson and Edward R. Johnson, both of Chambersburg; one sister, Elizabeth Hake of Elizabethtown, Pa.; three brothers, Robert Baranoski of Elizabethtown, Joseph Baranoski of Chambersburg and Edward Baranoski of Madison, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg.
Monsignor Thomas R. Brenner will officiate.
Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service Wednesday.

Reza Javey
BOONSBORO - Reza Javey, 78, of 501 N. Main St., died Saturday, April 19, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Sept. 23, 1918, in Iran, he was the son of the late Gorghali and Zenab Javey.
He was a retired executive of the Iranian National Oil Co. in Iran.
He was of the Moslem faith.
He is survived by his wife, Jamileh Javey; one daughter, Tuba Greenfield of Boonsboro; three sons, Houshang Javey and Jay Javey, both of Virginia Beach, Va., and Shahram Javey of Los Gatos, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Sunday, April 20, at Boonsboro Cemetery. Jay Javey officiated.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice connected with spinal cord injuries.
Chester G. Holmes
Chester G. Holmes, 72, of 13 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, died Saturday, April 19, 1997, at Homewood Retirement Center, Williamsport.
He was born Feb. 25, 1925, in Keedysville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen R. Baker Holmes, in 1971.
He was a retired employee of Mack Trucks Inc.
He was a shipping supervisor and worked from 1963 to 1982.
He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Air Force.
He is survived by three daughters, Cynthia A. Miller of Hagerstown, Debra B. Holmes of Maugansville and Victoria L. Holmes of Crystal Springs, Fla.; two sons, David T. Holmes and Chester G. Holmes II, both of Hagerstown; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.
Reginald Mitchell will officiate.
Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
There will be no visitation.
Martha E. Slifer
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Martha Evelyn Slifer, 89, of Penn Hall Retirement Community, died Sunday, April 20, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born May 26, 1907, in Bloserville, Cumberland County, Pa., she was a twin daughter of the late Rev. William Grant Slifer and Mary Blanche Walter Slifer.
She was a 1926 graduate of St. Thomas High School, St. Thomas, Pa.
She was employed by the former Stanley Co. for 1712 years and retired in 1972.
She was a member of St. Thomas Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. Thomas.
She taught children's Sunday school for 27 years, sang with the choir and was a violinist in the Sunday school orchestra.
She was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church Women.
She enjoyed quilting.
She is survived by five nieces, three nephews, 20 grandnieces and grandnephews; several great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Mary Evelyn Slifer.
A memorial service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Penn Hall Chapel, Penn Hall Retirement Community.
The Rev. Herbert C. Spomer will officiate.
Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.
